I have to say that the New Inn is probably one of my favorite pubs and places to eat in the entire Cambridgeshire, Suffolk, and Norfolk vicinity.
The owners are very kind and treat you like you are part of the family. Always a good vibe, and always feel very welcome.
What I love most about their menu is that they serve fresh game. I love their game soup. Anything they serve that is game deserves an A+. I crave their game meals on a daily basis. I wanted to go here for Valentines Day but I could not get my husband to drive out of Newmarket and resorted to another pub which I wasn't happy with, so he does owe me a night at the New Inn.
They always have new specials, it is always wise to check out their specials on the black board. I always have their specials whatever they are. They never disappoint.
I have had their Sunday carvery and it is delicious. I never over spend, I always get a lot for my money, I am always happy and my tummy is full and my taste buds are always satisfied.
They have a pretty good selection of ales, beers and ciders.
Their menu is pretty large, I will take pictures of it and post it soon. There is lots to eat if you are a vegetarian and lots to eat if you are not! I need to try their exotic meats on a slab, they get exotic meat flown in from Scotland.
Great food and nice beer selection! We had the crocodile, fish and chips, and the chicken breast with barbecue sauce. All had very good flavor. Staff are very friendly and welcoming. Good off street parking. Nice atmosphere for casual conversation. Wished I lived here...this would be my local!
Great pub friendly owners and much better than driving all the way into town.
On arrival we were greeted by the new manager who could not have been more helpful. His first priority was to get the children settled. Moving tables to help us and supplying colouring pencils and sheets for them.
The meals and desserts his wife prepared were first class. All freshly made, great portion sizes and tasted wonderful.
Toilets were clean and fresh. Huge garden area with plenty to keep any children occupied.
We will definitely be back. Nigel (the new manager) is an absolute gentleman and just wants you to enjoy your visit.
Food was great! We popped in on a Wednesday evening for dinner. They had the dining room booked for a large party, but they still found time to make us dinner and it was great. Service was wonderful. Cozy pub. The Stilton chicken was really tasty! Very good prices on meals as well.
Nicely decorated, food was tasty and delicious. Staff were friendly and welcoming.
Only thing I would say is we ate as a large party. They got enough main course in but not even dessert. The alternative that they gave us was gluten free and that was pretty good!! So if you are a gluten sufferer. This little pub has a gluten free menu option
Great place to go for food and especially for Sunday roast. The staff member were polite and helpful in fitting us in during there busy period. The roast Beef and Gammon were brilliant, all the trimmings were fresh and home cooked, no frozen shop brought produce. The owner was really nice and attentive, she came out to see how the food was for us and if there was anything else she could do. A true family run business with the community at interest.
A family/pet friendly restaurant and pub with extremely helpful staff, good food, and good atmosphere. Our kids love playing on the available playgrounds, while we sit outside and enjoy a pint until our food comes.
The only drawback is the price, it's a little more than what I'd expect. Although my comparison is to 2019/pre-lockdown and this just might be until businesses get re-established or the new norm.
We met Pete on Saturday 16th September and he was most welcoming. We also met Becky, who is the chef, she went through the menu details with us and if there was anything else we could think of she would accommodate us, always up for suggestions and ideas. We took our daughter, son in law and three grandchildren for a meal that evening and it was delicious. Prompt table and bar service, prompt meal service and we only had to pay for the adults as the children ate free (between 5-7 pm). The New Inn needs a lick of paint, granted, but it was a really enjoyable experience, nothing was too much trouble. Thanks go to Pete and his friendly, helpful staff.
Booked for Sunday afternoon dinner. A charming village olde pub & restaurant. The landlord was accommodating for our family of 10 consisting of four adults and six children aged 8 to 16.
Although it was busy the service was fast and the food was superb. Especially the Sunday roast. Oh and the home made cheesecake. mmmmmm!
The three children under 10 eat free. And the chef "Landlady" made sure the kids got their food first without much waiting.
There is a huge grass area for the kids to run around and with slides & climbing frames to keep them busy. We also took our dog.
Above all the Landlord was very chatty and made us all feel comfortable. Prices were spot on, ending up at £13 per head including three course sunday lunches and drinks
I will certainly recommend the New Inn Hockwold and would go back again.
This place has some really good food. I had the special burger and it was amazing. The playground for the kids was a nice addition to the pub as well. Some nice seating outside made it a really enjoyable visit.
Food pretty standard for good pub food with very generous helpings. Servise fantastic and frieldly as are the locals. Good positive atmosphere and had a lovely time, far better than expected primarily due to service and friendliness.
Had a lovely evening , Nigel and Sue are very welcoming, food was good . We will be going back there very soon. Thank you for fitting us in as you were very busy.
Great gin selection, delicious food and brilliant British banter from the owners.
A quintessentially British pub experience, in a stunning building.
Just had a GREAT Sunday lunch at the New Inn. Great Food, with very friendly & Helpful Staff. Could not fault anything and will be going back another time. Thanks for a great meal. Bill
Extensive menu, good food, reasonably priced. Selection of real ales - not tried. Not sure the tomato soup was home made but was plentiful and reasonable price.
A great place for lunch today, very friendly owners and excellent food at a reasonable price. Will definately visit again.
Just spent a lovely evening at The New Inn. Nigel & his staff were so attentive and friendly. Very tasty food & generous portion sizes.
