Oh my , fanstastic place , food absolutely amazing with amazing staff too go with it would recommended 100% best place I've ever eaten
Lovely olde world pub, welcoming, warm and friendly staff. Food was excellent and plenty of it. Would definitely recommend it if you want good food at a resonable price and lots of choice of beers, wine etc. We will definitely be going again very soon.
Years since I've been to the red lion and WOW! what a surprise! We only popped in as we were passing and so glad we did! Superb Dog friendly village pub/restaurant, The food was 1st class, huge choice & very reasonably priced. The owners are very welcoming & friendly. The whole place gave us a very warm, cosy and enjoyable evening. Can't wait to go back again. Now one of my favourite local pubs. Will highly recommend it to all my friends.
SO much better than when we went a few years ago. Really Friendly staff who actually smile rather than grimace at you! Great food and good menu, too
Had a lovely meal on Thursday night, two steaks and a bottle of wine for only £26.
Compliments to the chef as everything was cooked to perfection, and the table service was first class
Excellent food, nice friendly atmosphere. Would recommend the Bangers & Mash. Tasted like those pork sausages were running around the farm opposite 10 mins before. Delicious.
Great pub, great meals, we would recommend this venue to all.
Lovely people lovely atmosphere and best of all excellent food at a reasonable price would have no problem recommending this establishment
We had a lovely lunchtime carvery with friends. Food was good, staff very friendly and service good too. We shall be returning for more meals in the future.
Friendly atmosphere good food
Defornately recommend
Very good Sunday carvery, lots of veg choice, meat delicious. Friendly staff.
First class food lovely people who run the pub
Visited on a Wednesday night with my Dad. Easy reservation done online. When we arrived, we were shown to our table. Atmosphere was excellent. Traditional pub as I remember. Food was good and tasty. Wished they still had the Liver and Onions, but alas sold out. Really nothing to dislike.
Went here for an evening meal here for my birthday had a burger and a pint, burger was really nice flame grill flavour and skin on fries, just the job and a pint of cider. Staff were pleasant and helpful, would definitely visit again
Lovely experience here, some of the staff are American as they used to live on the base and then retired here. Super friendly, lovely food (we had the carvery) and selection of veg especially. Dog friendly and seemed to be pretty busy, get the feeling its very popular. We are not from the area but would go back
We had a great day at the Red Lion for their Hog roast. The food was fantastic and so was the company, a family and pet friendly pub with a very nice garden.
We'll certainly be visiting frequently!
Thanks to all the staff for their hard work and friendly welcome.
Best roast I've had in a very long time. The staff are very friendly and polite. The locals at the pub make you feel welcomed and the environment is perfect for a Sunday roast
Had the Liver & Bacon as you don’t see that on menus nowadays- it was great and the vegetable selection on the side really lifted it to a more modern dish - great flavours. (Courgettes , green beans and peppers) had sticky toffee pudding for desert which was so nice I ate it all but should’ve only eaten half the size. We’d share a desert next time. My husband had the gammon egg and chips and really enjoyed it. Same desert and same comment.
Came here for a Mother’s Day meal as a party of seven.
We had a table booked for 12:30 and was shown in straight away which was great.
The waitress explained that if we wanted to pay separately we would need to order our drinks at the bar because they didn’t want to have to split the cheques, and baring in mind there’s seven of us, this wouldn’t be very convenient.
After we’d finished our starters, the same waitress then came and told us “Just to let you know you’ve got about 45 mins left on your table before another party comes in.” As you can imagine, considering we hadn’t even had our mains yet and potentially then wanted desserts, we found this quite rude and unprofessional. If there’d been a time limit on the table we should have been told this on arrival, not when there’s less than an hour to go and we haven’t even eaten mains yet.
After eating mains and desserts, another waitress came over and said “Yeah when you’re ready we need the table now.” We didn’t even have the bill, and we were well aware that there was someone else waiting, but frankly it wasn’t really our fault, and we couldn’t control the speed of the service.
We sat waiting for the bill for ten minutes, before she came over AGAIN and asked how long we’d be! It was at this point that I said “Well if you wanna bring the bill over we might be a bit quicker..?”. She then decided to tell us we had to pay at the bar here, which would have been helpful to know prior to ordering so we could’ve just got up when we were done.
An additional point to add is there are NO prices listed anywhere for drinks nor carvery or any of the specials, so it’s a bit of a guessing game as to what you’re going to end up paying.
Overall, the food was really lovely, and the pub itself was in a gorgeous quiet village which was a nice change to our busy hometown, however the service lacked professionalism and had we been made aware of the clearly overbooked afternoon service that was running, we’d have made sure we did all we could to ensure we didn’t overrun. Would return, but NOT on a weekend where I’m sure we’d be rushed along again.
This place is outstanding! Last minute chance dining last Sunday - it was busting at the seams with people that were all clearly loving the carvery food & friendly atmosphere! Jake and all the staff were sooo friendly & welcoming and the home cooked food was phenomenal and deserves 10*! I highly recommend & I will most certainly return. Thankyou Jake & staff for making a coffee meetup a wonderful dining experience - see you all again soon 😁👍
Went for Sunday carvery, very nice roast with all the trimmings. Selection of ales on draught. Recommend booking early as was busy. Staff friendly and polite. Recommend this pub.
Came to Norfolk to celebrate mum and dads 70th wedding anniversary as table booked for 13 were asked to pre order; limited menu but catered for all age groups ( we were from age 9 to 94). Loved having pensioners choices, and the one vegan also catered for, however she was disappointed no vegan ice cream with her pudding. Food was well presented and delicious, empty plates all round. Staff were lovely. Thankyou and will definitely come again.
Absolutely wonderful food and service. Lovely staff, beautiful and clean. Beer garden was amazing x will be going again real soon. 😊
We came for the Easter Sunday carvery, we've never been here before but will definitely be coming back, the carvery was fab, and the roast potatoes were amazing, please tell me how you get them like that!!!
Just had our 1st experience of the Red Lion in Hockeold. Food was lovely we had the carvery and the apple&caramel cobbler was absolutely lovely.service was great as well. Will deffo be coming back for seconds .cheers Rob/Jane
Wow what a lovely pub, everyone friendly, such good service. Loved our food too. Would love to go back…
A party of 8 of us had a very enjoyable carvery here Sunday 5th May . Spot on thank you 👍👍
Gorgeous quaint little pub. Came here for my uncle’s wake and the buffet was just delicious. If ever in the area again will definitely call for dinner, there was a real friendly atmosphere about the place.
The food is fantastic! I'm American, so food opinions change given the different cultures, but nonetheless, the brisket burger is a must try for a first-time visitor!
Never been before. Staff friendly and despite some struggling in kitchen (lack of staff?) we didn't wait long at all and both meals were warm and tasty.
