Beautiful old pub with deceptive space and ambience, nice food, lovely friendly service and were happy to cater for my 3 year old son to share our dinner rather than order a whole meal for him

We called in on spec, being in town for a function.. We were early doors, so chef needed a little time to get up and running. No matter, we sat with a couple of drinks whilst we perused the menu. My wife is coeliac so we needed some special dietary requirements. The menu offered several options which Sara could eat, and as she loves fish and chips - which is not often available in GF she opted for that. I also went along with this choice, saying that I was happy to make chef's life a little easier. I was informed that all GF is prepared in separate cookers/fryers anyway, still I went with the GF option too. We were not disappointed! The meal was lovely, although on first sight the batter did look slightly pale, we needn't have worried as it was absolutely delicious, a lovely, crunchy and tasty accompaniment to the light, flaky fish. Add to this lovely home made chunky chips and tartare sauce and sublime mushy peas this was a truly lovely meal. Sara was more than pleased, and I was glad I'd chosen GF, although I feel sure the regular fish and chips would have been equally superb. The staff were very friendly, helpful and accommodating too. All in all highly recommended. Thank you The Griffin!

My family had a lovely sunday afternoon at the Griffin. The building is charming and very welcoming and comfortable. I could have sat by the fire forever. The bar staff were extremely pleasant and assisted to our needs. We all had the carvery which was perfect. Everything was cooked to perfection and was well replenished. The table service we received was lovely and we well be returning in the near future. Credit to the chef and all the staff.

Booked here for a Sunday carvery. Very good. 3 different roast meats on offer plus trimmings and nice selection of veg. Opted for a citrus cheesecake for dessert. Tasty! Service was good. Venue is a little tired decor wise but welcoming enough.

Nice atmosphere and polite staff. Very welcoming and comfortable. Food was nice enough.... 3 stars felt a bit mean so I gave 4..... The Steak being the highlight of the meal wasn't great quality. I'd return but go for something else on the menu.

Nice Sunday lunch from the carvery but some veg dried up a little... Still, as a carvery it was very nice.

Fabulous staff, everyone was genuinely warm and welcoming. The food was fabulous too. A great place to take Dad for his 80th Birthday meal 😋

One of my favourite places. Dog friendly. Love the food though not always have enough vegetarian options. There should be at least 2 options for starters (not just soup) or mains. But cant complain about the food I already had:delicious. Nice drinks too. Friendly staff.

Went there Wednesday, amazing service such smiley faces. The food is amazing for the prices you get what you pay for, such big plates full of food. Order the chicken burger cooked to perfection so much chicken in there served with a scrumptious pot of burger sauce and very well seasoned fries. And the presentation for the food is just amazing 🤩 Definitely coming back again 👍

This is the first time we’ve been to this Pub in many many years they always did a lovely Carvery back then. We wanted to try the Carvery today because we are taking family in two weeks and wanted to be sure they would be happy with it. The Carvery was very well presented and cooked to perfection with the exception of the roast potatoes which could have done with being roasted more. You had a choice of 3 meats and a lovely selection of vegetables you could tell it had all been cooked fresh the only negative comment would be is it could have been hotter but this is always a problem when you have a carvery. The desserts are all homemade and very good. Finally the staff are very friendly can’t do enough for you and make you feel very welcome.

So looking forward to this carvery. It was delicious. The only downside was we got such a small amount of meat. I asked if I could have a little extra and was told yes but she would remove a slice that was on the plate already and there was only 2 very small slices. Very disappointing. The staff were excellent.

Went here with my Sunday lunch club in February. There were 23 of us, plus 1 unexpected addition. The staff and manager couldn't have been more friendly and helpful. The food was delicious and the desserts, out of this world. Several people have approached me to ask when we will be going there again. I will definitely be booking Sunday lunch for our group here again. After we've given the staff a few months to recover!
