An excellent choice for our short stay in Northumberland. Our room was comfortable and spotlessly clean. Breakfast and dinner in the bar were first class with a good range of options. Most of all the staff were fantastic, helpful, friendly and courteous. Would highly recommend.
Great Pub/Hotel, to be fair it's more a village style pub with rooms, really can't comment on the hotel side but there seemed to be quite a few guests in the bar so the rooms and hotel side looked healthy. The food was good and well varied from Italian through to Thai with some traditional local dishes thrown in. The service was quick and staff were pleasant. We would definitely recommend a visit if you are in the area.
A find! Big, clean rooms. The staff could not be more helpful. Very good Thai food in the restaurant. The hotel has obviously been remodeled recently as the windows all open easily. There is a bus stop outside and it is an easy connection to Hexham, which is a sizable town
Fantastic hotel. Great location just off A69 but in an idyllic little village with pottery and tea rooms. The service was so friendly and hospitable. The food was delicious, large portions and an interesting Thai menu on top of the usual pub classics. Clean, comfortable and pleasant rooms with everything you need.
Absolutely first class the rooms are amazing.
Everything you want and a lot lot more.
Great food and drinks top very friendly Staff.
Dinner menu very wide variety of all types and styles of food.
Ian and his family will look after you in every way they can.
When we walked in and straight away made to feel welcome and the locals love to have a good old chat which is a great thing. We had a lovely meal and the staff couldn't do enough for even bringing drinks over to you . Oh we where sat in some locals seats and we had a good old laugh about it . You know when you hear the pubs the hart of the community well this pub really is . Get yourself in and you will have a lovely time 👍
Went in for a bar meal. Very buzzy atmosphere.
We had a great meal and lovely friendly service.
I had a tofu Thai curry and my partner had the chicken and leek pie.
Very satisfied with the quality of the food
Well done to everyone

Excellent hotel especially for visiting Hadrians Wall and the many Roman forts in this area. Great food, clean fresh rooms and wonderful staff. Highly recommended 👌
Wonderful service with a lovely young waitress! Was pleasantly surprised by a range of Thai dishes that would not usually be found in a classic British pub however they thoroughly exceeded my expectations. Highly recommend a visit here! Nestled deep in the beautiful northumberland countryside it is the perfect position for a delicious meal. I hope to return soon
Staff very friendly and helpful. Food was excellent. Make sure you book in advance.
Lovely little village pub offering food. Outside seating which is a beautiful tranquil place to sit and drink after a country walk.
Allen Banks National Trust walk is just 10 minutes away
This is a highly recommended hotel. You get a warm welcome from the moment you arrive. There is a great atmosphere. Nothing is too much trouble for the staff.
Rooms are great ours was spacious and comfortable it was a great base to explore hadrians wall and various sites.
Evening meals was beautiful you will not go hungry . Same with the breakfast it will set you up for the day. We will definitely be going back this time in summer as the village locals and staff are great. If I could give more stars I would. Excellent place.
Lovely little find. Great welcome, gorgeous home cooked food, clean and comfortable room.
Traditional Pub feel with Friendly staff. Food was good value for money.
Popped in while waiting for the bus quiet surprised 3 real ales on, looked more like its set up for food .but nothing wrong with the beer
I've been visiting the area for the last 15 years. A lot has changed. Some places that were once great no longer are. But a few have gotten better....and in the case of The Bowes I'm going to use the word great. I stayed for two weeks while excavating at Vindolanda. The food? Superb. Best steak pie I've ever had. Curry was also outstanding but be sure and ask which chef is cooking, it will influence the spice rankings! Eddie the bartender will pour your a friendly pint, Astrid and Catherine are almost mother hens in their efforts to make sure your stay is comfortable. Ian the owner often gave people lifts to start their day, although for me it was a pleasant 35 minute walk up Chainley Burn to the dig site. Also note excellent rail connection from the station just down the street and at least some useful bus links. Our little band of excavators has decided that The Bowes will be our "local" for all future seasons. UPDATE: Back again for two weeks in 2023. Still great!
Lovely hotel on the way to Newcastle from Carlisle. In a quiet spot with some good walking areas. Food is amazing with a breakfast that really does set you up for the day. The evening meals are well prepared with excellent portions. The staff can't do enough to ensure your stay is enjoyable. If you're not a driver, there is a train station within walking distance and what appeared a regular bus service, bus stop right outside the front door. Well worth a visit.
My daughter and I had a fantastic stay, only for one night. I wish it could have been longer. The room and facilities were 10/10. It’s evident that so much thought has gone into making guests feel as comfortable as possible with so many kind and thoughtful touches demonstrating the guest’s experience is paramount. All of the staff I interacted with - front of house duty manager, the publican and the breakfast cook/cleaner were professional, friendly and kind. The village itself is gorgeous and handy to Carlisle and Newcastle. I will definitely be back.
Absolutely fabulous. Clean and nicely refurbished rooms, good food and beer, great location, lovely service.
