We were a party of 13 we all had the Christmas Turkey dinner which was excellent, hot, tasty and well presented. The service was very good, all meals came out at the same time. The dining room was warm and cosy. Everyone enjoyed the food which was not just delicious but very good value. The new managers, Linda and Simeon, are very welcoming and professional. I just hope that they can stay.
Great little hotel, great Samuel Smiths beer, and great food. Cash only pub which is good to know before hand as nearest cash machine is a drive away. Rooms are nice and very reasonable with a good breakfast thrown in.
Tastefully refurbished, very clean and comfortable, breakfast was delicious and very well cooked. Very good value for money, felt more luxurious than that. Had early morning walk down to the bird reserve which was a short walk and beautifully peaceful. Will stay again on way up to Scotland, easy to find off M6.
This place has recently been fully rebuilt, despite this it still has a nice "old time" atmosphere. There are a number of rooms for food service so it has a large seating capacity but still feels intimate and not too noisy. The food its self was very good, one of the burgers was a bit undercooked but they made a new one without fuss even knocking money off the bill. Apparently the burger was "Belting". Only criticism was the bacon - you guys really need to up your bacon game!
In a word fantastic. Two quality nights of peace tranquillity at a fine location.
Excellent accommodation, great breakfast, good pint, good value and friendly staff.
This how to modernise a small public house/hotel without losing the beautiful charm of the original period style and history. Well done.
Not the featureless 'gourmet pub' trend which has killed so many establishments after the Hooray Henries have moved on after been “seen” and charging it on their lucrative expense accounts. Its only £3 a pint, how hard up are they if they cannot afford to use cash?
No smelly wet dogs to trip over or arrogant look and listen to “me” types whilst they use the latest phone to annoy you. It is heaven. Will be back.
The building has been restored and as ever at a Samuel Smith's establishment the beer is a wonderful price. The food was excellent and agin very good value. The staff were also very pleasant and helpful and suggested taking a look at an old well in another bar that had been unearthed during the recent refurbishment. Note well they do not take cards, cash only.
I was given a very warm welcome on arrival from Paul. Customer service by all staff is excellent. My room was well furnished with a very comfortable bed. My breakfast was cooked just how I like it. Thank you all
Nice rural pub. Seems to have got it's act together recently. Decent grub - nothing too fancy. Great prices. Nicely refurbished. Real fires. What's not to like. Will definitely be calling in again. Recommended.
A very cosy place to go for either a drink or a full meal. Not stayed overnight but the dining and pub area is very nice. There are mixed reviews as they have been swapping cheffs and staff to get a good mix but today it was very nice as it has always been for me. Good atmosphere and dog friendly as well as very affordable both with drinks and food yet of a good quality. For my personal taste the food was a tad oily but not overly. I had fish and chips which was served in a reasonable time with crispy batter and well cooked fish. The chips where soft and fluffy inside but still crisp outside. The other food we orderor was of a similar standard, very nice traditional pub food as you would think from a Cumbrian small town pub, but as said slightly oily which is why I have given 4 stars as well as one of the waitresses not having a particularly good knowledge of the food however I hadn't seen her before so I'm assuming she is new. Overall a good pub experience and I would defdinately recommend.
The rooms are clean comfortable and full of character
The staff are excellent too, there nothing to much trouble
Yes there is no phones, tablets etc allowed but that adds to the place
The food and beers available is cracking also
All in all had a lovely stay and would without blinking return again
Beautiful pub with a welcome traditional feel. Great food at a very reasonable price with numerous vegetarian options. Definitely our go to pub for a hearty meal after a busy day.
We have just had the best mixed grill in a long time Lamb/Steak /pork /gammon /Black /pudding /sausage /egg chips onion ring And pepper corn sauce freshly cooked nice and hot and tasted amazing 2 pints 1 large glass of Red £40 for 2 what's not to like will defiantly be coming back xx
