Booked a table for 10 for a family birthday in the snug l was assured that the tables would be moved together. When we arrived at 4pm the tables had not been moved. My Son went to the bar to place his order and returned to the table .My two other sons went to order their meals and were told that the snug area was table service and to return to their table and a waitress would take our orders. After 20 minutes and asking twice at the bar the waitress appeared and our orders were taken. 10 minutes later my sons order (who ordered at the bar) turned up.No cutlery was brought with the 4 meals so we asked for this and after about 6 minutes the waitress returned with Just four sets despite us needing a further 4 sets .Condiments were not on the tables so yet again this was requested which took a further five minutes .After a twenty minute wait for the other table service meals to appear my other two sons went to the bar and were told that the meals would be ready soon.We arrived at 4pm it was now 4.50pm so l approached the bar and asked to speak to the manager .The manager was serving drinks so l was told to return to the snug and she would be over shortly. The manager appeared and asked what was the problem ! My eldest son informed her of the shambolic service , and it appeared that preference was being given to drinker rather than focusing on food orders. The managers reply was that she had only started her shift at 4pm ( which was the time we arrived) and was not aware as to what had happened, surely before approaching us she should have asked her staff what the situation was? My son who had ordered at the bar told her the situation and was abruptly told that he should not have placed his food order at the bar but waited for table service !!! The attitude was appalling. The time was now 5.10 ,one hour since we placed our table service orders .The manager offered to give us our meals free of charge ,l asked were they ready and was informed that it would be approximately another 15 minutes !! Needless to say we left ! Absolutely dreadful service and the managers attitude was incredible .
Great atmosphere and very friendly and attentive staff. Nut roast is big and full of flavour! Tasty vegetables, perfectly cooked. Great variety of drinks.
We've loved this place for years but moved away. Our visit today was just as spectacular as always. Great food, beers and nice area outside for the dogs
Excellent for both everyday and special occasion, food is always high quality and plentiful, service by the waitress was first class.
We went with a group of 6 on Sunday 14/5/24 and we had a great time
Lovely little pub. The rooms were a little dated and corridor carpets certainly need a good shampoo. Beds were comfortable if pillows were a little watery. The restaurant was very good. If I was local, I would be a regular customer! Service was excellent. If I was ranking for just breakfast or dinner, I would give an easy 5 stars.
Lovely location for Sunday lunch with the extended family. Good pub food but a little more imagination. Lovely atmosphere. Very friendly but not intrusive. Will be back, soon.
All departments of this delightful small hotel/pub were excellent. The Bar service, Kitchen, Housekeeping, The rooms, Cleaning services, Reception, Restaurant staff & Management all were 100% on the ball. The décor despite it being Christmas is extremely tasteful. The down side to our visit was that we were only there for 1 night. Heswall is in a perfect location for visiting The Wirral. I fully recommend it.
Very nice atmosphere, if bringing a dog make sure you book a table in that section. The Sunday roast was very good , both the pork, beef and nut roast.
Yorkshire puddings were too big, dry and overbaked, a bit of squidyness in a Yorkshire inside is always a plus.
This was already a repeat visit
Tucked away in the posh bit of the Wirral, Sunday lunch here was generous and tasty with plenty of options and super helpful staff. Good value for money too.
We didn't stay over so don't know what the rooms were like but the bar and restaurant were really well maintained and comfortable.
Roast beef recommended!
Birthday treat for partner, beautiful old property, sympathetic restoration, excellent position for bird watching on Dee marshes, area good for additional pubs and restaurants, food at hotel excellent.
Loved this place. The rooms were spotless, food was great! Special mention to the staff /manager, who with out exception, were excellent.
Went with family to celebrate my husband finishing his radiotherapy treatment. Lovely staff and great food.
You can park by the pub restaurant. We were a party of four and had a voucher for 20% off the food. The wine was expensive however. The service was good on this Thursday night. My wife was gluten free and ordered John Dory which was supposed to have a lime sauce. However we weren't convinced that there was any lime on the fish. Though the fish was excellent and tasty. We had a camembert starter and got a whole heated camembert which was more than enough for two. I enjoyed the chicken wings with soy sauce and sesame seeds with salad. The fish pie was quite good as well.
I've liked this place since last century when I first went! I had haddock and chips which should be standard fare anywhere but this one managed to be the best. Fish was perfect, batter was crisp and not too thick, chips were good right to the end, no soggy ones and the peas were garden peas mashed with mint. Also tasty tartare sauce.
Nice little pub with averaged priced drinks. I was impressed that they serve chips that are suitable for vegans, as they are fried separately. The staff are friendly and there is a decent outdoor seating area for when the weather is pleasant enough.
Great meal out for a table of 5 adults. Great service, food cooked well.
