Vegan and LGBT Friendly - What's not to like?
We are desperately short of veggie and vegan cafes/restaurants in the Hull area, so was excited to hear about the V Word in Hessle, especially after a recommendation from a vegan friend. So we decided to make the short trip for Jamie's birthday. The cafe is a bit out of sight, tucked away at the end of Walrus Arcade - which I had never even heard of before.
Inside is a cosy comfortable space with four tables and lounge area. There is also an excellent outdoor seating area with another four or five tables. The first thing I noticed was a rainbow flag on one table telling me this is an LGBT friendly cafe.
We had been recommended the quiche which proved to be an excellent recommendation. Sam the owner told me the recipe is a trade secret, but I will definitely have that again. One of the best quiches I have ever tasted. I doubt anyone would even realise it was vegan and contained no eggs.
We will definitely be back here and, if you are looking for a small friendly place to eat home cooked style vegan food, it is well worth the trip out to Hessle, even if you are not vegan.

Ordered a V burger and a hot dog with chips to share, we came away with a huge bag of food, fed us two till we were bursting, the seagulls got a bit of bread from the hotdog, some chips and beans too! We brought home a lovely mixed salad which did us both a salad sandwich tonight for dinner! Considering he's a meat eater he also really enjoyed lunch and said he d definatly have the hotdog again. Great service too, wasn't quite ready so he was offered a seat and asked if he would like a glass of water while he waited.
Yay!!! Finally got round to visiting this delightful cafe and was not disappointed! � I had the hummus and falafel wrap which was absolutely delicious as was the fresh salad served with it. I can't praise this place enough ... gorgeous, tasty food and lovely, friendly staff � Please give it a try .... even if you're not vegan I can guarantee you will not be disappointed! Thanks guys ... see you again soon! �

Gorgeous little cafe. service was excellent, made to feel very welcome straight away. The food was really good, I had the double hotdog which was large even for a fat guy like me, followed by a slice of the salted caramel cake which was easily the best vegan cake I've ever had. Really good value. We will definitely be back. Thank you Very word.
First visit today - really enjoyed our food . Homity pie , quiche (G/f) and delicious cakes !! Highly recommend . Friendly and helpful staff too

I've been to quite a lot of vegan food places and they are usually more expensive than non veggie places. Not The V Word. They are great value and the food was lovely. Coffee was good, food excellent, cake superb. I'll be back soon.

I was absolutely thrilled to hear that there is a vegan cafe in Hessle. Hull has very few veggie/vegan cafes so this was greatly welcomed.
The cafe itself was spotless and welcoming.
We ordered the quiche with salad and chunky homemade fries and it was delicious. �
It was a great price and a lovely afternoon.
The owner Sam is very friendly and dogs are allowed too.
What more could you want!!!
Looking forward to popping in again.

Lovely little totally vegan café. Very good value for money, generous portions, great tasty food. We tried the quiche and some homity pie, both delicious. Looking forward to trying some burgers next. Nice friendly staff and relaxing atmosphere.
Thank you for plating up 3 plates of food for me yesterday to take to family who were staying st a caravan site in Withernsea (not much Vegan there). The quiche and salad was really lovely, all three of us agreed it was totally delicious!

Food, good homemade food. Salad range yummy.
Access - fairly good, disabled toilet, but also used for storage and a high chair near the doorway. If needed, ask staff to move items.
Car Park - free behind the Co-op, or nearby on-street 1 hour parking.
Price and Portion size - medium price range, good size portions, I took half home and ordered a take home salad.
Staff - friendly and helpful

Enjoyed a Saturday brunch at this cozy and trendy vegan spot. Probably the most down to earth menu I've ever seen in a vegan café - the menu is full of meals (like burgers and hotdogs) that I'm always jealous of in other places. Delicious breakfast, friendly service and great value! Will be back 👍
One of the best vegan cafés I've been to. Excellent food, well priced and lovely people running the place. The plates even have cool pictures so it's like being a kid eating their dinner to see what's printed on the plate ( as if I need an extra reason) They support lots of animal charities and have occasional talks and meetings.

Perfect service although they had sold out of lots of food they still made an amazing English breakfast with what was left and it was so tasty! 💚👌😘

Absolutely lovely cafe. We had cake. The salted caramel is the best in the world by far! My son was so impressed with the Victoria sandwich he's had me order one for his birthday! Staff are lovely too. 😍
Fabulous warm welcome. Atmosphere relaxed. Owner could not have been more welcoming and helpful. Food and coffee warm and lovely. Great choice of vegan food as well. Would highly recommend a visit. Dogs made just as welcome.
Warm welcome, dogs allowed and great choice of menu and specials of the day. I had an advocado burger with onions, and it was vegalicious! I had to have my cake to take out as completely full from lunch. Lovely relaxed atmosphere and would highly recommend, you wont be disappointed.
