Sadly not been able to go for many years but was always a fantastic place to eat. Wonderful tasty food and welcoming owner/staff.
There was 10 of us from Northern Iteland went to Alberto's on Saturday night whilst we were visiting Hemel for a Christening. A wonderful experience food, comfort and friendliness from the staff was brilliant would definitely recommend this place.
Do not expect fast service, but once you slow down this can be a good, relaxing meal. Steak was great. Not what I would call a typical Italian, ie no pizzas etc. Lots of vegy choice. Simple home cooked Italian (ish?) food, served by very friendly staff who are happy to engage in conversation and banter.
This restaurant provides a lovely experience. The owner is a friendly person who makes you feel welcome. The food is of a decent standard. I had sea bass (off the bone) which came in fillets. Was delicious. Would recommend this restaurant. However, for larger groups (5 or more) it is best to book well in advance as the space is limited but the staff are friendly and I'm sure all can enjoy themselves there.
Classy table cloth restaurant, celebrated my friend’s birthday there last week. We ordered from their “Today’s Special” menu, lovely food and great service. Good that they don’t have pizza as we were looking for authentic Italian food and here is just we wanted.
Beautifully old school. From the gentle lilt of Tony Bennett in the background, to the fig and fauna wallpaper, the setting of this restaurant contributes to an authentic and convivial atmosphere. Food is simply prepared but tastes superb. Choice is limited to well executed staples and the price is extremely reasonable with lunchtime mains at £6.75 and puddings around £5. One of my favourite little authentic Italians.
I really enjoyed my meal there. The waiter was very friendly and helpful, even posting on a copy of my bill which I'd forgotten to take with me. The only downside was it was very quiet that evening, but trade seemed slow in many of the restaurants that evening.
Decided to celebrate our marriage birthday here and we were both very impressed with the food you can taste that everything is prepared from fresh. Nice and quiet place!

It’s very difficult to find somewhere that does authentic Italian food as it’s mostly chain restaurants with pre cooked heated in the microwave rubbish ! Definitely going back again.
I visited Albertos on a Wednesday evening and the the restaurant was not full but booking would be advised. The food was well cooked and tasty with quite large portions with a wide variety of italian dishes on the menu. Service was prompt and the staff were polite and friendly. There is on street parking and a larger car park (free after 6pm) just a short walk away. Definetly worth a visit if you are the area.
Fantastic food and friendly owner. A good place to eat and catch up with friends. The only reason I'm not giving it 5 stars is because there are no baby changing facilities. Just having had a new child, this place is now a no-go for us for the next year or so.
Had lunch with friends and a couple of rugrats in tow at Alberto's a few Saturdays ago. The recent makeover makes the place look modern and elegant and apparently the menu has had a revamp too. I liked the fact that the menu fell between Italian staples and dishes I'd never heard of before. My pasta dish was generous and tasty, and it was evident that it was made with a few fresh ingredients. The children's portion of penne ragu was made with the same care as any adults would be (usually kids meals have meagre portions and bland pasta). The ragu had a deep richness that was truly authentic and gave this kitchen classic an elevated status. The arancini balls we had to start and the meringue in my pavlova were possibly the best of those that I've ever eaten. Service was friendly and attentive. A perfect place for a special meal or just to eat a bowl of perfect pasta bolognese.
Oh, man, the staff there is entertaining! :)) You have to try the pheasant. Go there!

This was our regular place for many years, first in St Albans, then Hemel. We have not been since we moved to Norfolk 12 years ago, but wangled a trip to Hemel yesterday and booked in. We were impressed that Alberto remembered us, and it was as if we had never been away, though one staff member had changed.
We had a spectacularly good meal (chicken/mushroom pancake, filetto rossini, stroganoff). The house wine was even better than we remembered, and hubby said his homemade cheesecake was his 2nd best ever (after mine, of course!)
We did not find it expensive (£67 for 2 starters and mains, one pud, bottle of house wine).
Alberto's is in a lovely spot in the pretty old town (only 10 mins walk from the town centre, or there is a large car park nearby). It is a beautiful building and has an attractive interior. It has a character all of its own - quirky, informal and hospitable. We don't find the service slow, though the atmosphere is certainly very relaxed (just as it should be on a good night out!)
There are plenty of regulars, as we would be if not for the distance. So top marks, the long, hot drive home was well worth it! :-)
Fantastic restaurant right in the heart of the old town. There is a car park opposite and plenty of street parking. The food was delicious and the menu catered to all tastes and dietary requirements. This restaurant is a real gem.
First visit to Alberto’s last night, what a lovely meal it was and every one on our table would agree. I had the seafood pasta with extra spice 👌🏻 highly recommended

First Time at Alberto’s – Nice and Friendly Family Restaurant – Food was DELICIOUS – Orlando and Alberto were so lovely and pleasant. Service was EXCELLENT Will visit again and would recommend 100%.
