Nice restaurant, the meal deal is very cheap 2 mains for 11.99! The starter portions could be a bit more on the plate, but i can really recommend the spicy chicken burger, very tasty!! I also wanna add that the waiters are very friendly and fast in service. If you add more food on the plate it will be 5 stars.
Visited last minute for Sunday lunch- and the food was absolutely lovely. We called ahead to see whether we could squeeze in, and the lady we spoke to on the phone was extremely friendly and polite.
It was busy when we arrived, so there was around a 5-10 minute wait to be shown to our table but this wasn't an issue. Once seated, we decided to opt for a roast dinner. We were told a waiter would be over to take our order, but after around 20 minutes of waiting we went to the bar to enquire. Shortly after this, a waiter arrived at the table to take our order.
It took around an hour for the food to come, but the pub itself was comfortable and welcoming. This wait time is understandable for a busy Sunday service with large parties at other tables. The staff appeared to be extremely busy and stressed- which is no fault of their own.
Overall, the food was lovely, but the service could have been better- but it will not deter me from visiting again when I'm back in Helston.
Staying at the Premier Inn, Helston, the May Tree is within the same car park, easy for my morning breakfast and evening meal. The meals are delicious, very hard working staff, all very bubbly and making their customers feel welcome, thank you to Ellie, Tiff and Emily for waiting on me, my stay was brightened up in the evenings with your lovely personalities, oh, and helping me decide what to choose to eat with the "Smothered platter" and "Smothered Chicken" . Chef Kelly, wonderful meals, an absolute delight to have sampled... I hope to visit again in the future. Best wishes to you all. - Paul. 24/8/2023
Nice cozy restaurant with s full pub. Good service. Love Miss Lucy she was always happy at breakfast and very welcoming. Breakfast was buffet and more choices to choose from.
We ate here 3 times during our week long stay.
Our Sunday Roast was delicious. Fresh veg, plenty of meat. Back on day two, to celebrate a birthday mixed grills, steak & lasagne. Followed by desserts. 10/10 couldn't fault it 👌
Then breakfast on our last day, what a lovely selection we had. Pancakes, croissants, cakes, mixed fruit, yogurts, a full English. Plenty of tea, coffee & juices.
The staff were all lovely & the tables well spaced. We wish it was closer to where we live ❤
Gathering with our family of 12 for Sunday dinner was a delightful experience that exceeded our expectations. The pricing was perfectly suited to our needs, offering excellent value for the quality of food and service we received.
Upon stepping inside, we immediately sensed the warm and inviting atmosphere, bustling with many diners, which reassured us that we had chosen a fantastic place to dine.
The food itself was a highlight of the meal; it had that delightful homemade flavor that made each dish truly special. The combination of taste and affordability was a winning factor for us, making us appreciate our choice even more.
What stood out for us, especially given our large group, was the brilliant option available to us. For just an extra pound per person, we could enjoy unlimited servings of roast potatoes, rich gravy, and delectable Yorkshire puddings. This generous offer made our dining experience not only delicious but also incredibly cost-effective for our big family gathering.
My friend and I often lunch here after work, and I can highly recommend the Smothered Chicken. At the moment, there is a special offer on selected meals that are 2 for £10.99.
Lovely atmosphere.
Usual hate these pub chains near Premier inn i work away for a living and end up eating in than more than I’d like, but honestly it was different this one must have a chef with skill and who cares or something it was fantastic.
We recently had a meal in The May Tree and I have to say it was great!
We stayed at the Premier Inn which is just across the road, it's a 30-second walk, which is massively convenient.
We were seated and given our menus by the very friendly waitress, they have very tasty options. Draught drinks options are available at a fair price.
Our food arrived in about 20 minutes, it was scrumptious, I highly recommend the Chicken Tikka Curry (with the optional Nann Bread).
Overall, it's a great restaurant. I would definitely come if you are in the area!
Recently had a surprise birthdaymeal for my dad.
We had a small room to the side booked
The food was nice and had a good atmosphere
Good quality food and staff. The price was also very reasonable, however, the decor looked very tired and I think the menu's looked pretty disgusting and could do with a reprint. Thankfully the food, staff and price made up for it.
We live on the Lizard, but consider a trip into Helston to eat at The May Tree well worth while.
The staff are very professional, courteous and polite.
Having visited Easter Sunday lunchtime, we didn't have to wait, drinks order taken, food ordered and then served in good time.
The portion size was excellent with a good assortment of vegetables to accompany the roast turkey, exceptionally well cooked and presented.
The May Tree is highly recommended, not only owing to this visit, but to the many visits over the years.
First class!
Update 21st August 2023
Service is good as always, same excellent service staff and of course the food.
However, we did notice today that, the place is looking tired. Whitbread desperately needs to refurb the place.
We had dinner last night for 3 of us. The Dinners were lovely, and the right sized portions and the service from our Waitress was excellent. If you are in the area, try this place out.
