First time we have been & definitely won't be the last, cosy even outside with logs burning in the chimnea, friendly staff, homemade scones with clotted cream & scrummy raspberry jam were to die for. Can't wait to go back to try more delicious food.

Tony and his staff work hard to make it the best coffee shop in Helmsley with friendly staff, fabulous deserts, and a lovely ambience. Every time we come to Helmsley it is our first stop. Don't take my word for it, give it a try for yourself.

Best coffee shop in Helmsley, in fact in Yorkshire. Warm welcome from friendly staff, homely, comfortable, open fire, best scones you will ever taste, home made Italian ice cream, great coffee and tea. Outside area for summer, smokers and dog owners. And to top it all, free wi-fi. Worth six stars!

We always go to porters for a latte when in Helmsley. Usually have a cream scone but has toffee apple crumble tart instead yesterday. Hubby had raspberry & almond tart. Very nice. Hadn't got Basil the dog with us this time but last year we look him in the autumn and sat inside. He was fussed and fed biscuits by the staff. X

Enjoyed a lovely fruit scone and coffee here twice already over the past few days. Cosy, friendly place. Excellent choice of sandwiches etc. Only one small criticism...why french butter (which I think is awful)with my scone and not English butter? Will definitely visit again though.

Dogs welcome in the back room, both back and front had roaring fires on a miserable day. Welcoming staff, very good value for tea and coffee and a particularly excellent cheese scone.

Cannot recommend this place highly enough especially for the price.Monia and Tony could not do enough for us. The Breakfast was amazing! The yoghurt and fruit nuts sunflower seeds cranberries etc . The Bacon sandwich was the best I have ever had. The room had lovely little touches home made mince pies bottle of prosecco as it was our " mini moon" Monia is an absolute credit to this place so hardworking friendly and everything is freshly baked with a cup of tea or coffee on tap whenever you need it .

I had a short break with my sister and stayed for a couple of nights. The B&B, restaurants in the area were all wonderful. The hosts at the B&B were superb and went out of their way to ensure we had a great stay. The breakfast was really delicious with fresh fruits, granola and croissants and pastries. The garden terrace is lovely at the side of the cafe.

Very nice little out door seating to the side, lovely hanging baskets made it nice to sit and enjoy tea, green tea Suki, shame they had none to sell, but the staff were so helpful and advised where to order on line, I have and even ordered the little tea pot. Thank you for a lovely tea and scone and great service.

Lovely location, beautiful tea garden in the rear, can't be seen from the road. The service was impeccable, scones baked to perfection, served with clotted cream and jam. We will visit again on our return to Helmsley, definitely one of the best coffee shops we have been to, highly recommended.

Friendly relaxed atmosphere from the staff. The cakes look great, and the coffee is good. The open fire in the lounge is also welcoming on a cold day.

They have the most amazing fruit scones with cream and jam that I have had in a while, and the lemon merengue cake was delicious. There is an outdoor seating area as well as indoors. The staff are friendly and helpful, I saw the young lad server moving a second table for the family group of four.

We called in for a light lunch and enjoyed the most delicious home made quiche, served with a generous side salad. Very pleasant surroundings, friendly and helpful staff. A little pricey but worth every penny! A great treat. And dogs welcome!

I arrived at Porters Coffee shop looking for refreshments and somewhere cool and relaxing to rest after 35 miles of a 55 mile bike ride round the York vale in 30°C+ heat. I was met by 3 lovely smiling and cheerful ladies who immediately made me feel very welcome. I chose cream tea and 2 bottles of fruit juice to which they provided 2 glasses full with ice. I sat myself down in their lovely courtyard which was shaded and cool. It was very picturesque and had a lovely sommery atmosphere to it. My cream tea came within 5 minutes and was absolutely delicious. Home baked fruit Scone, fresh clotted cream and locally sourced jam. I sat down and rested listening to radio 4 that was playing classical music. What better way to spend a half hour recovering from an extremely hard bike ride. The ladies were polite and chatty not just with me but to all the other guests. The Coffee shop inside was just as idyllic as it was outside, tastefully put together with lots of character. I would recommend Porters Coffee shop to any poor soul cyclist or to anyone else for that matter.
