Great pub. Staff very friendly. Lovely setting and dog friendly. Highly recommended 👌 UPDATE: just had Sunday lunch here, amazing. The updated menu since we last ate here is fantastic. Again the staff were great. Not being a local we were made to feel welcomed. Highly recommend. Thanks also for the wine tasters 👏👏
To be honest we were in 2 minds about coming due to some of the reviews, but it seems most of the negative ones were about things that were out of the pubs hands.... Like being too busy or too hot in the summer! Luckily for us, it was nice and quiet when we came in yesterday for a Sunday roast. I really wanted it to be good, especially at £18 and I'm pleased to report it was not just good but excellent, huge kudos to the chef. A generous portion of tender beef, cooked perfectly for us, medium. A massive home made Yorkshire pudding, crispy fluffy roast potatoes and a great interesting selection of veg. Dog friendly, including treats for dogs and even a portion of cracking for them (ahem, me!). First time staying at the campsite across the road, loved the area and will definitely be back. Cheers
Went to this pub today with the wife and she had tortillas and I had salt and pepper squid and king prawns. The food was absolutely gorgeous and not only did they sell my favourite rattler but also berry which was the wife's best choice. Food was delicious and the drinks thirst quenching. All wrapped up with first class service. Well done and keep up the great work 👍
Had a lovely meal for 4. Large portions, great selection. Service was excellent. Great atmosphere as gets busy, must book in advance. There are some walk in tables available but was fully booked the night we went.
We stayed in the campsite opposite the pub. We ate there twice and had incredible food both times. We were able to sit outside, which worked for us as we have a daughter that uses a large wheelchair. Friendly staff and a nice atmosphere. We look forward to visiting again.
We stayed near to the pub. You need to book due to being busy. This was our second visit of the week. A very different from my last visit. What a shame as we waited quite a long time to be served our main course. Dessert was longer but did come eventually. We would have bought more drinks but couldn’t be bothered to be left waiting any longer. We could have just walked out without paying I really don’t think anyone would have noticed. The people next to us had to go and fetch someone to give them table service. Another table found out certain food had run out. I can only think it was due to being understaffed and poorly organised. I appreciate you can’t predict foot fall but most tables were pre booked as had reserve on most of them.
Turned up late on a Sunday with 11 people - the pub couldn't have been more welcoming. The tapas room was open for us and we had a wonderful meal.

We stayed in the campsite opposite and ate here twice. Food was lovely. Staff are all great. Nice pub, just felt sometimes like we were eating in a kennel as dogs are everywhere and some poorly behaved, but that's not the staffs problem, but I think there needs to be a balance with being dog friendly and respecting the needs of everyone. Not everyone enjoys sitting next to barking dogs. Great music festival, with some fantastic bands. Really good fun 😂
Happened by this pub accidentally on the way back from Godrevy. Service was excellent, very accommodating and friendly. Food was great, hot not tepid and really tasty. Good range of drinks available. Decor inside is clean and in good condition.
Staff are really friendly. Pub was overly busy on Saturday but staff remained professional and did an amazing job. Food was very good especially the fish and chips
Food was good, 2 x cornish mussels with warmed ciabiatta bread, the mussels were delicious. Remember to reserve a table as it was very busy. The service was prompt with a friendly waiter. Thank you for a lovely meal.
Round the corner from the campsite.
Great location. Great service (Ollie, Dave, Tristan and team).
Lovely food. The mussels were the best I've had.
Great for lunch or an evening meal. They also have great bands and a beer garden across the road to enjoy.
We had dinner at the Red River Inn on a friday night. We were expecting to struggle to get in being prime time but we found a table, the staff were very welcoming and it is dog friendly. Food was very nice and well presented. Thought the pricing was fair given its location and lack of competition. We had 4 alcoholic drinks, 2 main meals and a side at it was just under £70 with an optional service charge included. Definitely worth a visit if you are staying in Gwinthian or close by! Would definitely visit again if in the area.
Lovely food. The roast was stunning. The crumble to die for. Our waitress was fantastic (Honey) and the other staff here today were just as brilliant. We had the nut roast. Very very nice. The chef can certainly cook. Very high quality food and excellent service.
