Food is tasty and enjoyable had dinner in hotel restaurant tonight Wednesday it was beautifull .. and staff got me a room at the top of the stairs as I can't walk far thanks for that will recommend this place
Thank you to everyone at the bear hotel on Easter sunday, we brought all the family out for a meal and it was lovely! Great menu to choose from and most of us had a roast which was lovely, the kids had a great choice on their menu plus they all got an Easter egg too! Great service and great food we will definitely be back! Thanks again! Xxx
stayed here for 2 nights , staff were very helpful and friendly, lovely breakfasts too ! huge king size very comfortable bed as well so overall very pleased would definitely recommend 😊
Yes,this place is a bit old a bit in need of an update but it has great staff, serves good food and the rooms are more than decent for the price
We will be back next time we are down here because character and friendliness is much more important than basic cosmetic faults
Great with kids too.
Staying here for 2 nights. The staff are exceptional.....so friendly, helpful and have infinite patience with our grand-daughter. Breakfast selection is really good, selection of pastries, cereals and fruit. Cooked breakfast selection is one of the best we've had in a hotel. We have had dinner here with family both nights and it's some of the best food I have had in a hotel. Its very high quality and the desserts are just fab.... Room is spacious, bed is very comfy (even if it is still 2 singles pushed together to make a double). We will definitely be back to stay here.
went today for a sunday roast. lovely food, really couldn’t fault it and the service was great would definitely recommend
Charming hotel and pub full of character and history. Short walk to shops and the train station made it very convenient. Clean and spacious room with a super comfy bed. The room also had a floor fan, which made me very happy. The staff are delightful and very friendly. Customer service went beyond my expectations. Good food from kitchen as well. A true English Inn experience. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit and were very sad to leave.
During Easter weekend, the roof blew off our flat and we had to move to the Bear for 5 weeks. I cannot say how amazing they were there. Yes the bathroom needs some updating, but our bed was massive and comfortable and we had a good size room, for us and our dog.
The staff make this place. Ryan and Tony in the restaurant as amazing! They are friendly, helpful and really caring. They work ridiculously hard and nothing is too much trouble.
The food is fab and trust me, we ate there for five weeks and only had one bad meal!
The reception team are super and very helpful, especially when it came to our insurance company.
I cannot thank the Bear enough for looking after us and my terminally ill dad, who was going through chemo whilst staying here.
Highly recommend to everyone.
My sister and I, enjoyed our stay at the Bear hotel very much. They are very dog-friendly. My German shepherd (Merlin) was made to feel very welcome. The staff are very friendly and helpful. The beds were amazingly comfortable and the rooms are spacious with tea and coffee replenished daily. Breakfast was good with a wide choice available. There is plenty of parking at the back of the hotel and it’s free if you’re staying there. You just need to give them at reception, your car registration number.
My only negative would be that the bathrooms are in serious need of updating, and the shower would not stay at the temperature I had set. It would go from the temperature that I set, to cold then to hot, which was a little unpleasant as it burnt me a couple of times. This does need serious attention. Other than that, it was very pleasant and I would stay again.
Quirky room with sloping ceiling. Very comfortable bed. Nice receptionist.
Minor niggles:
no bottled water; no tray under kettle to put used spoons etc on; 2 chips in the bath; no slip mat in bathroom (sign on wall by bath saying if bath is slippy phone reception and they will bring one)
Look, let's be honest you get a lot for your buck. The place is very clean yet very dated but I like that. Beds are gorgeous and comfy but don't understand why the room absolutely stinks of Marc Jacobs Decadence and it makes me feel quite ill. The staff are amazingly lovely and I would stay here again. I would not eat the restaurant food though, if I'm paying high end cost for sea bass, I expect crispy skin and charging £7.50 for a sundae when it must have cost all of £1 is not acceptable.
We booked a function room for a memorial meeting for my brother the staff were friendly helpful and very welcoming. The buffet was excellent with a good range and fresh and tasty. Would recommend
Bed was really comfortable. What let this room down was the bathroom really needed updating. And the shower didn't work properly.
A nice selection on the food menu. The starters and mains were delicious. The desserts could be better as they seemed like they may have been microwaved, a bit stodgy. But overall, a good hearty meal. The service from the staff was excellent, very hospitable and nothing was too much, always served with a smile. The room was basic and clean. It was a little old and tired however for the price a decent stay. The bed was comfortable and fresh towels provided every day. Free parking on site and located in the centre of town. A good location as close enough to the coast and Hayling island. I would recommend the bear. Thank you.
Great location and very nice pub with friendly staff. The hotel could do with being updated. Good sized area for dining, but the food is fairly standard.
We had a lovely dinner, catered for all our dietary requirements, good service will become a regular 😀
Large, spacious room with an enormous bed, clean, white bedding and towels. Very warm and a lovely, large bathroom. Carpets look tired but it was clean. The breakfasts were large and very tasty with lots of choice. The evening meals are extremely good and the staff were friendly and helpful.
The room was somewhat tired but still good value, and nothing was too much trouble with the food being excellent!
Excellent food, excellent staff very polite and welcoming and polite. The manager is very helpful and nothing is too much trouble. Would highly recommend we have been there for large family Sunday Lunch. Breakfast food is always hot and above all else very tasty and good value for money especially during this very difficult times prices have been kept to what i would say is affordable. Looking forward to Christmas lunch as well. It is good to support local business. Overall excellence
We had our wedding reception here on Friday 20/01/2023 and it was AMAZING! Ben, Jayne and the team all went above and beyond and made our day so special, the bear has always had a special meaning to us so it was important to us to have our day here and it didn’t disappoint when I say nothing was to much trouble i truly mean it, all staff was friendly and welcoming and Ben and Jayne was beyond accommodating, they work so well as a team! And are such genuine lovely people, I’m not very good at writing reviews but bottom line we HIGHLY recommend the bear and will be regular guests! We can’t wait to come back and see everyone ♥️ thank you for
Everything you all done for us.
Mr and Mrs Lewis x
Super friendly and helpful service right from the beginning.
A great evening meal and very helpful and friendly service in the restaurant area, also. The young lady who served us was a star.
We were here during the heatwave, so the room, despite being really nice, was like an oven through the night which is something I guess this and other hotels will need to adapt for in future summers as the temperatures are increasing. A room fan did help a little, but a bigger solution will be needed.
But generally, a really nice overall experience.
