Always like to visit when we’re in Hathersage. Great selection of products and very enthusiastic and knowledgable staff. The cafe upstairs has a nice laid back vibe and serves decent food and proper hot drinks!

Fabulous service and advice, must have taken up a full hour of James' time asking questions about crampons, boots and all things involving snow based footwear. Excellent shop (and a great cafe if you're setting off/finishing a decent Peaks' hike), David

After a lovely run from Longshaw what better way to refuel and rehydrate than egg n chips and a pint of tea at the Outside cafe! Follow that up with a spot retail therapy and you've got the ideal Saturday! Loads of lush gear right now! The guy in the shoe/boot department had endless patience 😃

A simply wonderful place! Not just an outdoor shop, "Outside" is a hub for lovers of the great outdoors! You walk in and are greeted by quite simply the friendliest bunch of folk you'll ever meet, all of whom have the combined knowledge and experience to cover every nook and cranny of the outdoor world. I won't ever pass this shop again without coming in and saying "Hi" to everyone and having a peek at their brilliant climbing library! I'm envisaging an increase in cost of all future Peak District trips based on how often I pass through Heathersage... Damn them for being so bloody good!

My Dad called in today but he's not on Facebook so asked me to post his feedback! "Purchased a pair of Rocklite 305GTX. Steve in the boot room gave great advice and guidance - firstly on selecting the best shoe for my needs, and secondly, making sure I found a really good fit. Reasonable price as well."

Helpful and knowledgeable staff, who are always on hand to help. Then when you've had enough of shopping no visit is complete without having something to eat from the cafe!

Top quality kit and really top quality advice from knowledgeable people. Boot fitting is excellent. They won’t sell you pricey things you don’t need and will make sure you are 100% happy with your purchases. Cafe is lovely and dogs welcome.

Great local shop on the peak District. We were hoping to buy some last minute climbing equipment on a bank holiday and I was very happy to see they were open. The shop is quite big, and packed with everything you might need. The staff at the climbing section were super friendly and knowledgeable, helping me choose a guidebook that suited what I was after. The range of mountain equipment was also very impressive. I would love to visit the shop with a bit more time when I'm not in a hurry!!

A well stocked shop filled with good quality outdoor clothing and equipment. Staff are very knowledgeable and helpful to novice climbers and walkers. They can kit you out with hats to boots and everything else in between. Not cheap but quality costs. Upstairs is a great little cafe. Hot tasty food at reasonable prices and really nice staff. Excellent coffee to warm you up on these wintery mornings. Love the atmospheric photos of climbers past and the more recent ones. Dog friendly.

Only a 4.75/5. Staff welcoming, nice and friendly. Coffee and cake fantastic. Knocked down as no Freeby for completing 'The Round'. They had run out 🤣🤣 Not all their fault I suppose.

We called for a full breakfast recently and were not disappointed. It was all beautifully cooked and presented, and not too long a wait despite the cafe being quite busy. The fact that the cafe was busy only a short while after opening is clearly testament to the value and quality that they provide. I would thoroughly recommend this spot.

Very well stocked shop. Nice staff but unfortunately all the brands seem to have 20-30% on top compared to the same items in other shops

Have visited this shop for years. I rate it as the best all round outdoor shop in the UK. Staff really know their thing & are friendly. Superb range if boots(never by winter boots anywhere else) great climbing section. Good range of clothing & many books all maps etc. Cafe is my standard Hathersage stop for Huge Coffee, sometimes very busy in Cafe be patient but that doesn't warrant not giving it 5*

Great gear shop! Not necessarily the lowest prices but you’ll find great advice and plenty of choice. There’s a cafe too. Always stop off when I’m in the area and I’ve bought plenty of gear over the years. I’ve had a couple of issues before too (natural when you’ve bought a fair amount of gear) but the staff have always sorted it. I don’t live in the area so they’ve sorted via the post when required too. One of my favourite gear shops for sure.
