A time-honored British tradition came alive at The Olde Pump House in Hastings as I embarked on a delightful culinary journey with their quintessential Fish and Chips. Nestled within the historic walls of this 15th-century pub, the experience was nothing short of a nostalgic escapade to the heart of tradition.
Upon my plate arrived a beautifully presented duo – perfectly golden-brown battered fish paired with a generous serving of golden fries. The initial crunch as I bit into the crispy exterior gave way to the tender, flaky fish within. The batter, a harmonious blend of lightness and crispiness, was a testament to the pub's dedication to culinary craftsmanship.
What truly elevated this dish was the quality of the ingredients. The fish, undoubtedly fresh, maintained its natural flavors, accentuated by a delicate seasoning that balanced the oceanic notes. The fries, a true embodiment of the art of frying, retained their fluffy interior while boasting an addictive crunch.
In the heart of Hastings, The Olde Pump House keeps the spirit of fish and chips alive, paying homage to a cherished culinary heritage. It's a celebration of simplicity, executed with finesse and a nod to the past. Whether you're a local or a traveler seeking an authentic taste of British culture, this classic dish at The Olde Pump House is an experience that shouldn't be missed.

A delicious, home-style meal. Very enjoyable and reasonably priced. Only issue I had was the table & chairs were not the easiest to sit at, but if it was a huge problem, I would've changed seat. Would go back
Lovely traditional pub in the centre of old town. Great atmosphere with lots of people dressed as pirates, very good. Despite being busy we managed to get a table inside and served quickly.
My family and I visited Ye Olde Pump House in Hastings for lunch, and I must say, it was an outstanding experience! The charming Ye olde pump house ambiance instantly caught my attention, setting the perfect tone for a delightful meal.
The highlight of our visit was the mouthwatering steaks that were cooked to absolute perfection. Each bite was a burst of flavor, and it's clear that the chefs at The Ye olde Pump House take their craft seriously. But it wasn't just the food that made our day; the impeccable service and inviting atmosphere truly stood out.
A special shout-out to the bartender, Callan, who went above and beyond to make our dining experience memorable. Callan's friendly demeanor and extensive local knowledge added a personal touch to our visit. It's not every day that you encounter such a warm and knowledgeable staff member!

We had a great experience here. I went in around 1730 with my two little girls (5 and 7) and the staff were friendly from the off-set. After ordering drinks we chose food and I went and spoke to the barman and told him that I didn’t want to do children’s set menu as the girls had already had ice cream that day and I just got them a drink and so could they have adults sausage and mash and split it. He said of course and when I asked for an extra sausage so they could have two each, he said an extra pound and then said we could have it for free. The food was delicious and I had fish and chips and the veggies, salad an gravy were yummy too. We finished off with a apple crumble and custard and the barman realised we were sharing and gave us cutlery then when it came out, it was huge. I thanked you barman at the end and would definitely return.
Absolutely lovely place.
Stopped here on a Daytrip / Beano.
Wonderful massive large choice Buffet.
Excellent Ales, (recommend Whitstable Bay Pale Ale).
Very friendly helpful staff.
Grand atmosphere.
Lovely place, a typical old english pub 🍻😉
Went in for lunch with some friends, our three year old and our baby. Initially told no tables so tried elsewhere. After no success we were standing outside trying to decide what to do and the barman had the decency to actually come out of the pub and grab us to let us know a table was coming free.
The pub was family friendly and there was excellent communication re a longer wait on the food (busy Saturday at 1pm so totally understandable). Food was excellent and reasonably priced. Cheerful atmosphere and clearly popular for good reason.
Unfortunately I didn’t get the name of the barman but he saved us having to deal with a hungry three year old in the pouring rain and we were all very grateful.
Fantastic pub, food was amazing, drinks was lovely all around perfect old pub
Stumbled upon this pub by chance and are glad we popped in; it's a beautiful, old pub steeped in history with a charming atmosphere and friendly staff. The food was delicious too; with generous portions & reasonably priced. Can highly recommend a visit here.
