Not local to this part of the country but received a recommendation to visit Verrills. Arrived at 12 noon and there was a queue out of the door. Plenty of staff serving and our order was taken and paid for. We had to wait for our fish which was freshly cooked, and took up the offer of 'scraps' to accompany our fish and chips.
Beautiful thick white cod perfectly cooked was enjoyed sitting nearby at the headland. Chips were a little bit small but we're well cooked. Very enjoyable
The staff were friendly, helpful and efficient. I had take out fish and chips in a box, both were delicious. There is ample nearby parking, well worth a visit and I will be back!
My father started using Verrills in the 1930s. He returned for a visit about 15 years ago and they are as good now as they ever have been. We visit every year when in the area and we wouldn’t go to any other chippy. Excellent food, great price. I wish we could get fish and chips like this in the Midlands.
Perfect fish and chips the best we have eaten for a long time and will continue calling again x
Took the dog for a walk and then decided to pop in the fish shop for some dinner absolutely first class nice and hot and not reheated over and over again like some fish shops would definitely recommend to all
Easily one of the best if not the best Fish and Chips in the Area, they have limited opening, but have that sussed why stay open hours for the odd customer. It also includes now a little ice cream parlour ideal for those who like something sweet, when I say parlour I mean a little side window where the two young girls who run it serve you it is situated on the side of the shop that forms the drive in to the carpark, that is another plus, plenty of parking and public toilets nearby, certainly win win win.
These are THE best Fish & Chips l have ever had! Cooked perfectly, amazing crispy batter, thick firm fish and amazing chips.
The best fish and chips I've had in ages. The fish was fresh, white, and succulent. Chips were fried perfectly.
Proper old school fish and chips. Big portions of really tasty food
when there's a qué it soon goes down , service very quick and food ok👌
I love this chip shop, I was born and christened on the headland and whenever I'm there I try to visit. The fish is always fresh and the batter is the best. (To prove how much I like it I queued for 55 mins on good Friday! ) I have a few gripes though small ones ..... I wish they would publish there opening times on the outside of the shutters. I have been many times and disappointed that they are closed and no idea what time they are open. The second very minor gripe would be the curry sauce is too thick some days you can actually slice it!
OK, so it's June in the UK, it's raining, but we couldn't make a visit to the coast without an ice cream.
The ice cream sundaes here were great.
Popular as ever but didn't notice choice between cod & haddock just fish....? NB Cash only!
Lovely tasty fish and chips. Good portion size and freshly cooked. They didn't have all the items we wanted so it may be better to go earlier rather than later. There were queues so you need to be patient. It is nice to sit by the sea to eat them as a special treat. Definitely worth a visit.
Absolutely gorgeous food. Got a half lot and was enough to fill me.
Lovely large portion of fish and chips (£9.10 Dec 2022). The fish was large and moist. The chips were chrispy and plentiful. Best of all there was a large queue outside when I left.
I went on a cold bitter December day to watch the football. The chippie is around a mile from Hartlepool United's ground.
