Lovely meal this evening. Service could not be faulted. Our waitress Betty was lovely and very patient with me when I couldn't decide which flavour of ice cream to have. I had King Prawn Malaysian Curry, rice and chips then vanilla and toffee ice cream. Will be back. Loving the gluten free menu. Thank you.

We visited Portals on a Friday evening, for a family birthday meal. Food was lovely as usual and staff were very friendly and helpful. When we finished we went into Abbey’s bar for drinks and to listen to live music by the very talented Pek and Wanley. Would definitely recommend Portals Place.

My wife & I visited the restaurant a few days ago for my 70th birthday. It was our first visit & we decided to try it after seeing a glowing review in the Evening Gazette. We weren't disappointed! Drink wise I had 2 large Cabernet Sauvignon red wines & my wife, the driver, stuck to diet cokes. There were some special offers available on the night we visited (Tuesday) but we decided, as it was a special occasion, to opt for the normal menu. I chose the moules marinieres starter & the 10oz sirloin steak main, with black pepper sauce and my wife opted for the garlic mushroom starter & the rack of lamb main. We both chose chunky chips with our main meal. In short, everything was fabulous! The food was hot & arrived in an acceptable length of time. My wife adored her meal, stating she would definitely choose the lamb again, & my steak was cooked to perfection. Only problem was that the chunky chips were so gorgeous that I wouldn't leave any & so left no room in my stomach for a desert! So my wife had a sticky toffee pudding, & I finished with a coffee. The bill when it came, at £65 total was less than I expected for such a quality meal, & so I tipped more than I normally would. I'm not saying that we always pay £65 every time we eat out (which we do often) but this was a special occasion & we didn't stint! We will certainly return here & so next time we may try the special menu £15 for two courses. The point I'm making is that there is that choice there to tailor your bill to suit! And I'm sure the special menu will taste as good as the normal one! And I'm not forgetting the service. We were treated with grace & attentiveness, and with hardly any time to wait between courses. So yes I am happy to give Portals Place a 5 star review & most certainly we will be back!

I have got to say this was the best stake I've ever had! It was done to perfection and the sauce it came with was amazing. My friend ordered the mussels and I have never liked mussels my whole life but she offered me to try one and to my amazement I actually liked it! I really liked it. I will be ordering the mussels next time I visit here. It is a bit expensive but with the offers they have on buying one meal and a starter for £13.95 it worked out well. You could also switch having a dessert instead of a starter which I did and got the strawberry cheese cake.

One of my favourite restaurants in Hartlepool Food is always amazing, with large portion sizes and lots of choice. Separate dietary menus are available. Staff are friendly and welcoming and the atmosphere is great. Restaurant is clean and tidy, with lovely decor.

Even though it was busy we were seated straight away, ordered 2 parmos, did not wait very long for it to arrive and it was lovely, the chips were amazing too, highly recommend.

Every so often you come across a gem of a place and this restaurant is no exception. Food, wine and service excellent and moderately priced. My wife and I had a lovely experience. When we return to the area, we will return. Visited Thursday 13th July 2023.

5* Food was delicious. Can taste the flavour and the freshness. Parmo full of flavour and lovely crispy breadcrumb. Garlic dip punchy and full of flavour. Beef was tender and delicious. Kids carbonara really good portion and full of flavour. Deserts sticky toffee pudding and kids brownie delicious and generous portion size.
