Went last night for my son's 21st & what a wonderful evening we had. Our first impression was of a small village pub with a thatched roof & how can this be an award winning Michelin star restaurant? We were not disappointed. The staff were very friendly & attentive, the food was excellent & was well described by staff. As there were 5 of us with varied tastes the menu was varied & sufficient for all of us ( which is a rare find in a Michelin star restaurant) We could find no fault whatsoever & my son came away a happy chappy as he is a chef himself & is passionate about food & cooking therefore the head chef allowed him to view the kitchen & explained how they prepare to create the dishes we had just eaten. So can I express my gratitude to all the staff including the chefs for making our night truly memorable xx

A stunning location for walkers. This gorgeous inn has been made into a place of real hospitality. Lovely staff who surprised is with a complimentary upgrade, attentive chickens who enjoyed the afternoon sun with us on the terrace and we did make good use of the pool table in our room! The food, as expected, was extremely good and we really did appreciate the foraging that brings each beautifully crafted plate alive. My only negative feedback would be the very fancy Nespresso machines - give me simple, unadulterated, freshly ground coffee any day! When we asked, this was provided with breakfast. Finally thankyou for putting on a vegetarian tasting menu for us; it is still a challenge to find exciting chefs who can cook without meat and fish. A truly memorable occasion.

This place is sublime, the atmosphere was so enjoyable, with attentive, friendly staff and a true gentleman of an proprietare. #lovethisplace. The food is cooked to the highest standards and a taste sensation. A must visit for foodies like us. Or someone who is appreciative of quality food. Thank you Andrew and team for a truly fantastic night. Teri and Gary.

Went to the Star Inn for the first time at the weekend for my 60th birthday and it was fantastic. The food was superb and we could not fault the service definitely the best meal we have had in a long time. I would recommend to anyone and we will certainly be back.

I wants sure what to expect and was very pleasantly surprise. The restaurant is cosy and not a austere as I had expected ( my mind's eye telling me what Michelin looks like!). The staff were polite and paid just enough attention to us. As for the food, well! We had 4 different starters. The Oxtail Ravioli was voted our favourite. Very tasty and was dressed with a pretty array of garnish. The jus was so good that there was a rush for the sourdough bread, to mop it up! Main course was dominated by the deer course. Beautiful! Then to finish the meal we had coffee and homemade sweets. The cup choice was a little strange. They looked like they'd melted! Sometimes design isn't better than function! Very good evening with fantastic food.

Got married here last year, been back a few times after for overnight stays and to eat. Without a doubt the best place ever, great staff who are always happy to help and the food is amazing. Thank you all for making my birthday so special!

Completely and utterly fabulous as always. The food is divine and the service excellent. My favourite restaurant in Yorkshire. I have eaten here on several occasions and the food is excellent. I also love going up in to the attic afterwards for after dinner coffee. If you haven't been before it is a must!

Had the most Beautiful meal on Saturday evening. So glad we found this lovely restaurant. The food was amazing and the staff wonderful. The made sure that all the choices I made were dairy free and without meat, adapting some of their recipes to suit. A lovely relaxed atmosphere and a perfect night. Highly recommend.

The accolade of "Gastro Pub of the Year 2017" is well deserved. Excellent service, excellent food and well kept beer on every visit. The Star is a joy on the eye too very well worth a visit if you are in the area.

Since Mum moved back to Yorkshire from Cyprus, we’ve had great fun exploring new places in the area (places I would no doubt have visited as a child but don’t remember), but most importantly places that do very good food! I was back up North for Mother’s Day and I’d booked a table for the two of us for lunch at The Star Inn at Harome. We visited on the Saturday of Mother’s Day weekend so we could enjoy a full day and evening together rather than me having to head back to foggy London Town in the late afternoon.

Despite the close proximity of the Pipe and Glass, another great restaurant in Yorkshire is the Star Inn Harome. Indeed James Mackenzie, head chef of the Pipe and Glass, was once head chef at the Star, however despite the shared philosophy of local ingrediants the style of cooking is very different. Both James and owner/head chef at the Star, Andrew Pern, have done a great deal for Yorkshire food and it seems the two remain close friends judging by their own “two chefs ale” used to make a tasty bread at both restaurants.

This is the third time we’ve eaten at The Star Inn and (short review) I must say they have upped their game. It feels a little more formal than previous visits, but this made our anniversary meal feel even more special. We sat by the log fire sipping (who am I kidding, glugging) sloe gin cocktails and relaxed into each other’s company.... I have absolutely nothing negative to add about our experience - we had a wonderful anniversary made even more fabulous by the fact that Mr P didn’t die****.

I loved my main: Fricassée of Harome shot Pheasant – with prunes and apples, Ampleforth Cider cream, garden sage mash. Having seen the birds hanging as we arrived, I fancied the pheasant before we even got to see the menu. With tender chunks of pheasant, indulgent cider cream, crunch of apple, subtle sweetness from the prunes, smooth mash and crisp sage leaves, the fricassée proved to be a delightful dish.

Incredible food for fair price. Think they are the best roast potatoes I’ve ever had, how they get them that crispy then with the red wine sauce is brilliant. We went for the tasting course menu which is 6 courses for £55 as in first pic. With service, one Guinness and a gin and tonic came to £140 which is good as fast service, pleasant staff that are really knowledgable on the food. All food was great size portions with my girlfriend not being able to finish the main roast beef dish. Brilliant location and will go back again 1000%!

Very disappointed in the Sunday Lunch Potatoes were tough ! Couldn’t get my knife through the very hard skin , vegetable's bland and the gravy was very thin and tasteless. Beef was just ok but Yorkshire puddings were delicious , the desserts were both delicious but overall considering it is a Michelin star restaurant it was not up to the standard expected. Such a shame as the establishment itself is a wonderful place to visit. Good breakfast and we had a lovely weekend apart from the very disappointing lunch.Would go again but not for the Sunday lunch .

Stayed here for two nights on a ‘Foodie Feast’ special package including the tasting menu on one evening and A La carte on the other. We booked Room 5 which has a pool table in it. Fabulous! The food and wine were outstanding. The room was quiet and comfortable. Loved it! Would recommend for a special occasion.

This place is special, not cheap but lovely food and great for a celebratory occasions. Was disappointed about the hefty service charge added to our bill but at the end of the day you have to remember that as well as being a beautiful venue in a bucolic setting, this organisation is a slick money making operation.

Wow, our second visit to this lovely place but our first since their fire. They've done a great job rebuilding, you really wouldn't know until you look through the book of photos showing the fire damage and the repair journey. Food was amazing, I even tried mussels for the first time. Staff are very knowledgeable about the food which is well sourced.

Dinner with a group of 4 and one of many visits. The rebuild quality is a real credit to owners & contractors, they have retained all the original style and details (inside & out) while making it better! The ambience at pre-dinner drinks in the bar with a roaring log fire, was perfect for our trip back to catch up with local friends (10/10). Food & wine great as always … left ready to burst! Thanks

I live in York, recently moved from London for work. My Mother visited for the weekend and we looked for best Sunday roast near York... and found The Star Inn. The reviews and description sounded amazing. Also, wanted to tie in a walk so the surrounding area allowed a morning walk followed by a lovely dinner. The service was outstanding and friendly from the start to finish. The food and drinks were lovely. The decor and settings was lovely too. The rest of the menu looked intriguing, so would seek to come back to try more. If really pedantic the roast potatoes could have been a bit more special, and the veg was quite basic though cooked perfectly. But, maybe that is the style. But would recommend!

I booked this restaurant for my birthday having found it in the Michelin Guide. We had the Tasting Menu. They catered exceptionally for my gluten/dairy free request - the tasting menu was adapted to suit my dietary needs. Staff were welcoming and the service was faultless. The decor was unique with a warm/friendly atmosphere. Beautiful location. Delicious food. Would highly recommend.

Michelin starred gastropub with options to stay over. Very informal fine dining (as we like it!) The rooms are lovely, spacious and our room had a good shower. Each room is individual so check what you are getting when booking. The lodge has a lounge for guests and you can have a drink (or two) before you go to dinner. Lots of food options and you can either order a tasting menu or go for a la carte. There's a very generous wine pairing.

One night dinner B&B. What more can be said about this Iconic North Yorkshire country Inn. Multi-award winning restaurant that serves fine contemporary food and presents the best in hospitality. Guest rooms are across the road in the Cross House Lodge, each room individually styled. Our room had its own private entrance, and the en-suite even had a spa bath. Daily specials, A la Carte, Tasting Menus, and Bar snacks are all served in the pub. Once seated in the restaurant, we were served by the very charming Olly , who gave us an optional pescatarian menu choice of the evening. We were allowed to have both of the full-blown fine dining tasting menus. To start, you are served the largest ever salted Breadstick, with a Creamed Wild Mushroom Whip. Having both menus, we got to try more of the different dishes. The snacks Coronation Partridge Lollipop, Indian Spices. North Sea Fish 'Buttie', The bread course was so delicious. Spelt Grain Sourdough, Local Cauliflower, Dale End Cheddar and Black Autumn Truffle. With these generous portions, how are we going to manage the rest to come. We soldiered on obvs.through each quality dish. The mains. 'Rich Man, Poor Man' Mallard on the Crown. Blood Sausage, Chewy Beetroots and Blackcurrant, King's Ginger Juices * It's own Kebab Danish', 'Ernbers Slaw', Black Garlic. Pan-roasted North Sea Monkfish with 'Bubble 'n' Squeak' Chowder of Savoy and Brown Shrimps, Smoked Cod Roe, Croûtons. OMG, the final dessert Orchard Apple Crumble Soufflé with Wensleydale Cheese and its own Ice Cream, Aged Pedro Ximénez Sultana Syrup. The combination of flavours, the presentation, quality, and quantity were all absolutely outstanding from head chef stephen smith . Not forgetting the impeccable service from the front of house team. This is the Grand Master of Gastropubs that sets the highest standards of hospitality.

This Michelin starred restaurant lived up to every expectation. We lunched from the à la carte menu and enjoyed 2 different starters and mains. Each was well presented, wonderful flavours and interesting takes on combinations and flavours. Looking forward to my next visit. We did not stay so I can't comment on the accommodation.
