My partner and I had a lovely meal there! Food was very reasonably priced and staff very friendly and attentive. My partner had the steak which he said melted in his mouth and I the fish finger sandwich which was lovely! If we’re ever in the area again we’ll definitely visit again.

We booked our daughter’s first holy communion party in the function suite. From start to finish, the staff were amazing. Whilst it was hard work serving the 70 guests their food, staff worked as quickly as possible to get everybody’s dinner on the table. There wasn’t a morsel of food left on plates at the end, which proved how yummy the lunch was. Craig and the team were super in making sure our daughter had the best day ever and I would Highly recommend for a function or party. Thank you all once again.

Stayed for one night. We were in room no 1 very quirky old room, was on the front of the building so road noise was very loud but didn't stop us from sleeping! Would request a room still in the older building but not on the road side. Would definately recommend and go back if ever we are in the area are again

My wife and I went in this morning for breakfast and we couldn't fault anything. My wife had eggs benedict and I had a breakfast sarnie. My wife was very impressed with her meal as she has been to fancier restaurants and this was the best eggs benedict that she has had, mine was nice too will definitely go again

Driving hungry through Halstead with the wife today and saw a pub. Called in, got seated and ordered food. Food was amazing and staff were too. Had to go find someone when we wanted to pay, apart from that we were very impressed. Highly recommend this place. Next time we are in the area we will call back in. Cheers.

Lovely little old pud . Great features. Reasonably priced. Food and drink. Rooms a little dated but clean Our room did back on to lidl car park but didn't affect us in any way . Even though it was there loading bay All good 👍 Loved the fact that they had a separate gluten free menu veggie and vegan menus

Beautiful character building. Food and service prompt and efficient. Unfortunately the seating can only be described as terrible. Stained cloth all ragged and filthy really wonder how many people over the years have left a deposit, such furniture should have been taken to the local tip. We moved to another part of the pub where wooden seats were available. Surely management must know of the unhealthy state of these disgusting chairs!!

Beautiful old pub with lovely rooms above to stay. Staff were super friendly and helpful. Had a meal and a few drinks in the evening which was nice. Cooked breakfast in the morning which was lovely. Parking at the rear but if full, there's a carpark 2 minutes walk away.

Stayed overnight Tuesday 27th June 2023. This is a lovely, very old building, so beware of wonky, uneven floors, which add to the charm! Comfortable, clean room, with old-fashioned windows that open! All was well until bolted awake by the fire-alarm mysteriously going off around 1am! Prior, enjoyed a lovely meal in the restaurant. NB: If you wish to eat in the on-site restaurant, check on arrival in regard to timings, as the web-site may be inaccurate. The restaurant may require last diners to be seated by 8.15pm.

Good beer. Decent old school rooms. Food is a lottery... had nice breakfast and tasty meal one day and olmost inedible chicken burger next day.

Quite the experience booked in and the age of the building showed through everything, low beams and floors that make you feel drunk then drinks that do make you drunk! A bit further out of the way than I thought when booking but nice relaxing stay

This is a lovely really old building, so the rooms are a little quirky, which all adds to the charm. We stayed here for three nights, and the staff are so friendly, and go out of their way to make your stay as good as they can. The food is top class, and a good selection of beers are available. Very comfortable beds, en suite bathroom, and a car park round the back, this is a good place to stay. I couldn't give it five stars, only because the TV didn't work on our room, am I being a bit picky, I guess so. They did let us watch match of the day in another room, so another tick on the morning of too much trouble box.

The place could do with a good refurbishment very tired and dirty looking. Most staff are very friendly and helpful a couple not so much. Meals are much better than they used to be. Catering a Buffet is another story. Poor quality food and dry sandwiches. Wouldn't recommend the Buffet.

This pubs members have very friendly and welcoming approach. Very good vegan choice so we didn’t have problem eating here. Nice food and the room we stayed in was comfortable enough. Just be careful the wall paint catches on clothes if you touch it. Though the breakfast which comes with room is a joke. 😅 You can rather buy own breakfast from menu.

Lovely garden seating for our post walk drink. The establishment is very atmospheric and the flowers being planted outside gave the place an inviting vibe.
