Excellent food and drinks, especially the coffee options. The staff are very friendly and helpful.
We booked in for dinner at the Ghyllfoot with our son and our friends having been recommended it by some acquaintances in the area. You need to book in advance because they only do evening meals on requests certain days of the week.
We were not disappointed as the food was lovely. My husband had the grilled sardines for starter which were large, delicious and very fresh (they have daily deliveries of seafood) and I had a superb mushroom soup. For main course we had the duck breast which was very tender and came with sauteed creamed leeks. The chips were great too. They had a good selection of bottled ale as well as a wine list with most (if not even all) wines available by the glass.
The service was really friendly and Linda is a lovely hostess. The decor is nice but not amazing leaning towards clean and traditional rather than cosy with lots of character but then again the place is mostly open in the day as a cafe. The view from the back is very pretty indeed. Will definitely visit the Ghyllfoot again.
I have been a regular visitor to this lovely tearoom for over a year and usually have the Hikers Brunch, which I consider to be the best breakfast ever, so it's difficult to try something else when I'm there. However, as I recently brought my Mother away with me I did and I wasn't disappointed. The Ham Salad Mayo Baguette, lovely with plenty of filling and the baguette was cooked fresh to order. The Coffee and Walnut Cake was delicious and you can tell that it's homemade. The Sunday Lunch, OMG it was an excellent dining experience so much so that Ghyllfoot Tearoom shall be my new destination for Sunday Lunch. Such a lovely calm, cozy and homely setting and here you have waitress service and the young waitress they have is obviously very happy in her role and is both friendly and professional. There is also a good selection of alcoholic beverages so you can still enjoy a drink with your meal, I recommend the Shiraz. The choice of meat was beef or pork or you could have some of each. It was served with roast and new potatoes, Yorkshire pudding, perfect crackling, and gravy. The waitress then brought, served in pretty little dishes, carrot and swede batons, cauliflower cheese, braised celery, extra gravy, apple sauce and horseradish. I have never had braised celery before and am not a fan of it raw but I like to try something new and I found that cooked this way it is so tasty. For dessert I had the Crème Brulé. It came beautifully presented in quite a large dish with shortbread and fresh whipped cream with a sliced strawberry decoratively placed on the top. I tapped my spoon on the melted sugar crust, perfectly crisp and not too thick. The experience got even better as I broke through to the smooth creamy treat underneath that was laden with vanilla pods, delicious! Such a lovely atmosphere and a wonderful meal that left both myself and my Mother feeling relaxed and satisfied, a feeling that continued for the remainder of the day. I fully recommend this place it is 5 stars+. Good food, good wine, good service, what more can a person ask for.
