6 of us had an evening meal today and everything was delicious! We had lamb shank, Cumberland sausage and the brisket burger between us, followed by apple and peach crumble, and an apple granny pie - all with custard. Very warm and welcoming staff, excellent service, comfortable seating for 6 and a lovely atmosphere. Highly recommend booking. Live music on Sundays which we missed, so we’ll have to come back!
We visited for two meals whilst on holiday in the Lakes.
Both meals were perfect. The food was very high quality and reasonably priced.
The atmosphere was excellent.
The best point however was the staff! Very, very welcoming. Especially the lady running the front of house.
If you’re looking for a very nice meal and welcoming atmosphere, look no further!
Lovely pub full of character and country charm in the picturesque village of Greystoke. We were staying in the area and booked a table for dinner. Quite simply I had the best steak and ale I've ever eaten. A must try .
We very much enjoyed our meal at The Boot & Shoe. We aren’t local but still managed to get a table for 2 at short notice on a Friday night. The pub was busy which we considered a great sign.
The staff were more than helpful and friendly and the food was great quality and good value.
Would definitely recommend!
Delicious food and great atmosphere in the evening. Lovely staff on dinner service. Stayed the night in a basic comfy clean room. Full English breakfast included. Good stop over
Lovely food, good selection that was served fairly quickly, nice atmosphere, friendly staff and great music. Not many pubs playing Looking Glass, America, Dr Hook, Billy Joel and The Mac. Could have stayed there all night just listening to the songs.
It was just delightful really. My father really enjoyed the fact that there were gluten free options (for beer and food).
The food was exactly what I was anticipating from an English pub style location - definitely felt like an immersive experience for non-English folk.
It sort of felt like what one would read about in books and had that cozy, burrow-like atmosphere.
The staff were genuine and had a sense of humour anyone would warm towards. Particularly to the young fellow who took a photo of us and said he'd only take a photo if we remembered to smile.
Hope to come again :)
Really enjoyed our stay , excellent service and meals despite being short staffed they worked hard to pull it together. Only negative was no shower in the bathroom . Very friendly welcoming pub and staff were great 👍
Great quality food, with good portion sizes. Only thing to add is that we waited longer for our plates to be collected, and bill to be printed than we did for our food to arrive after ordering. Good service from staff, but understaffed for the quantity of customers.
We were on our holiday at the Lakes near Ullswater and had booked Sunday lunch at the Boot and Shoe Inn.
So glad we did, from the first contact the staff were so friendly and welcoming.
The pub is small but has a intimate feel, and dog friendly.
We sent out compliments to the chef as the roast beef dinner was definitely the best we had ever had anywhere else!
As it was such a lovely atmosphere we hung around chatting to the bar staff for a couple of hours (whilst sipping a cool drink of course!), until the band arrived.
Again, such friendly guys, playing a bit of everything including blues. Even our 20 year old son who normally appreciates something a bit 'heavier' really enjoyed the afternoon.
For us this just finished what had been a lovely relaxing holiday in the Lakes, thanks guys!
Would very much recommend you put this on your list of places to visit and interestingly you will also hear information about the nearby Greystoke Castle once home to Tarzan, son of Lord and Lady Greystoke who was born in the African jungle in 1888. Edgar Rice Burroughs went on to write the book Tarzan of the Apes, a story familiar to most.
