Just got back from a lovely fathers day meal with the family. From the food to the service to the staff. Everything was excellent. Would go back. But would love to go back a different day and try a different menu. The only down side to my meal was that my beef had a bit to much fat on it. And my potatoes were so crispy that there was not potato inside. And my cabbage I could it as it was to hard to eat.
We have visited here a few times now. The thing that struck us the first time we walked through the door was how welcome we were made to feel. The food is excellent and the staff very knowledgeable about the menu. Beautiful setting as well. As someone who eats out very regularly I would highly recommend this restaurant.
Visited here for the first time last night as a joint celebration of my, and my Daughter in Laws Birthday. Very busy Saturday night but we found everything excellent. Very welcoming staff, quick service, a menu with a good range of dishes including some less usual ones. Our food and wine were excellent and, though we had said nothing, they must have overheard something about the Birthday as our Desert arrived with a chocolate Happy Birthday plaque. Very pleasany evening and we shall certainly visit again.
Was recommended to come here by some colleagues. I am glad I paid a visit. Nice beer garden, very nice staff and the food was very good standard. I would definitely come back again, I'd recommend the Pork Rump and the chocolate mousse from the current menu both were awesome! Thanks
Just celebrated my 60th birthday with family and friends in one of the private rooms. Everything was absolutely perfect. Thank you to all the staff for a beautiful lunch in a relaxing atmosphere and especially to Emile for looking after us all so well. The cake was fabulous too! We will be back and will recommend to everyone. What a great way to celebrate.
Fantastic lunch, very accommodating and attentive staff. They’d made an error with our reservation but couldn’t have been more apologetic and swiftly rectified that. Great atmosphere, the food was very good and they looked after us very well. Will definitely go back as they’ve got a huge outdoors play area for kids. Also a free pint for dad’s celebrating Father’s Day was a great touch! Loved it.
Really enjoyed our meal out together last night... the food was delicious and I was very pleased to have plenty of veggie and vegan options to choose from. The staff were so helpful and on the ball and I had the most delicious cocktail I have ever had! Thank you.

We pitched up without a booking on a busy Thursday night two hours into a power cut at our home. Greeted with open arms, smiles, enthusiasm and everything felt better. Had delicious steak supper cooked to perfection, along with an amazing Glavin label red bottle of wine. What had promised to be a miserable dull candle lit night at home transformed to what felt like a lovely evening with people that felt like great neighbours.... oh wait ... they are ! Thanks guys. We drove straight home, house still in darkness and happily went straight to be feeling that we had had a great night !
Celebrated my birthday recently at the green man in one of their private rooms. It's so great. We had our own space and the tv with Netflix was great to keep the kids amused! Food & service was outstanding- can't fault this place. 5*
Husband and I went there for lunch today for the first time....and would highly recommend it ... the food and service was excellent!
1st time. Spur of the moment disission to go. Was amazed at how nice the place is. Had a fantastic roast meal and then went to sit in the bar for a pint. Ended up chatting to the friendly staff and manager.

After reading in The Times that this was voted one of the best places for a Sunday roast we decided to give it a try and was not dissapointed !

We ate lunch there today, it was great. Our first visit since it became Galvin Green Man. Decor is lovely, staff were welcoming, fun, attentive and efficient. Food was delicious. We will be going back.
Fantastic lunch with great service. Good reasonable selection of wines plus great Bib Gourmand offer, though we had the normal menu. We had booked the terrace but they contacted us a few days before to move us indoors because of the typical British weather! I can see why it has its reputation! And yes, we did have THREE deserts!! 😀
The food and service were outstanding. I was honestly impressed from the moment we walked though the door to the moment we left. Every member of staff was friendly and greeted us with a smile. Even the younger members of staff were extremely knowledgeable about the food and beverage menus. The food was perfect, extremely well cooked and seasoned with a perfect balance of flavours on every dish. We will certainly be returning.
We've literally just come back from an evening meal and we're still discussing how good our dinner was! The atmosphere was wonderful and the food was delicious. Compliments to the staff in all areas from the bar to the waiting staff and the chefs. I could eat it all over again, I left with a satisfied stomach but my taste buds want more which is how every meal should be.
The starters were very good, the duck (though it was the thinnest piece I've ever seen) was tasty, and the Scot Egg was also very nice. The main course was a bit disappointing, both of our dishes were under seasoned, cooked well but very bland. The desserts and cheese board were very good. It was a quiet night, so there wasn't much atmosphere. The waitress was attentive, but the main course was a letdown. I'm not sure I would pay £160 including 12.5% service charge, and return again.
We really enjoyed our visit. The food was very good and so was the service. We mentioned it was a little warm inside, and the hostess immediately agreed with us and turned on the aircon. Very sweet.
Came here the night before my wedding with my Bridesmaids. Food was delicious and they made me feel special with free champagne and a congratulations plate at the end. Really lovely touch!
Welcoming environment, lovely staff and great food. We were the first dinner sitting as we were booked for 6pm, so was very quiet when we arrived, but the atmosphere quickly built up as the time went on. Good to see on a Thursday night.
Only shortfall really was the length of time it took to get hold of the bill at the end. Overall very nice place, wonderful food, and great staff who are very friendly. Thank you Galvin for giving me a lovely last dinner as a Miss!

Came for Sunday roast a few weeks back. Two courses for £32 is a steal in this current day and age. Mocktails are delicious and actually have flavour and depth and the nibbles to start are delicious. Our party had the roast beef, a nut roast and a fish dish. All very hearty dishes and the best nut roast I’ve had in a long time. Really appreciated the nut roast being mixed with stuffing as I was afraid I would miss out on that classic. The only thing I would improve is that the yorkshire puddings were a bit over cooked/crispy to my liking but that could just be personal preference. We also got a cauliflower to share between 3 which was a great size considering we were already stuffed. We all had the basque cheesecake with rhubarb for dessert which was delicious. Book in advance if you want a table as it books up very quickly but the restaurant won’t feel too crowded due to how they have it spaced. I can’t remember the name of our waiters/waitresses but they were fabulous and incredibly patient with my elderly, picky grandmother. We visit 3 to 4 times a year from London and will continue to return!
The food, service and ambience at the Green Man are always very good. A little disappointed they didn’t have fish & chips on the adult menu, but all the food ordered was very good. In particular the burger and the chicken were excellent.
First class welcoming and attentive staff. Great green surroundings. Of course great variety of dishes. Gems of Chelmsford. Always surprise me with new dishes. Love the Suffolk Chicken.
Food and service both excellent. The menu includes a varied and very good selection of different 'plates' - enough to suit the vast majority of tastes. The food quality was first class.
Background music was a tad too loud, but was not overly intrusive.
Certainly a restaurant to be recommended.
Really great lunch. From the warm welcome at the start, to the attentive & friendly service from Emily (apologies if i've got her name wrong!), great food and a good selection of drinks. Was good to see a non alcoholic wine offering on the menu.

We had a fantastic dinner for our anniversary here. The food was simple but beautifully cooked, we had the chateaubriand for our main to share which was absolutely amazing!! The staff were very warm and welcoming too and overall we had a wonderful evening here, we will definitely be back!
I love Galvin Green Man! We have had 2 anniversary dinners here and each time the food has been amazing. Can't say the same for the weather though which is a shame as they have a huge garden with lots of outside space. First time we went, we had a table outside as it was a warm evening. We had to sit inside on our last visit as it was chucking it down. Still, the ambiance was good and the restaurant was busy. Can't fault them. 😁
Myself and my wife had an amazing lunch. Its is great to find somewhere locally that does a tasting menu which gives great value for money. All the staff were great and knowledgeable. We are already planning our next visit.

style and architecture combined with a lot of glass and light. Immediately warm and relaxing. The staff are very professional and polite with a
human side. The food is, well, fantastic. Portion
sizes of the food are spot on and the sauces are
sparse and light which demonstrates you don't
need loads of sauce to compliment perfectly
cooked food with delicate and subtle flavours.
Be warned this is an expensive place to eat and
drink. But so worth it. I don't get over to Essex
much - I will be going back. Highly recommended.
All the Staff in the pub, restaurant & reception could not have been any more hospitable. A fantastic evening was had by our group of 4 celebrating an Engagement. Just a great night!
Went there for a Friday lunch, food was good, service was generally good, apart from a long wait for our mains. I had the deluxe burger which was very nice, wife had the sea bass which was good. It was a very nice lunch, TBH I was hoping for more wow factor with the food selection and taste but its a solid 4/5 from me. It was good, but I don't feel the need to rush back there again.
