All of guests loved the warm, cosy atmosphere and have said how amazing the food was too. Members of our family booked for a Sunday roast for the following day, whilst at our wedding! Thank you from the bottom of our hearts, for making our wedding such a magical day 🤍
We can highly recommend this place to stay and to eat. Beautiful, tasteful interior design, spacious rooms, comfortable beds. Dinner on both nights - great choice, perfectly cooked and well presented and delicious breakfasts with the best home baked bread you've ever eaten! Lindsay was so helpful, so good at her job and an altogether excellent member of staff! Thankyou, The George!
Second visit. Varied menu selection, great food, great service - very attentive. We visited as a large group of 20 and the service & food were still very good.The outside terrace area was lovely & very nicely lit late at night. Would definitely revisit & recommend.
Very impressed (as a pescatarian) to find that of the eight mains on offer four were fish and two were vegetarian. The cod loin was perfectly cooked and extremely tasty. Presentation excellent. Service was a bit slow but as we weren't in a hurry it wasn't a problem. We hadn't planned on visiting The George, but were very glad we did.
We had an Anniversary meal here this evening, the food was great! I had the Fishcake starter and the chicken with chorizo gnocchi, my husband ordered the scallops and the cod for main... all beautifully cooked, the service was great too. Definitely worth a visit
We didn't stay here but went for dinner to celebrate my husbands birthday. To be perfectly honest we were a little disappointed after reading the reviews and having been planning to go for a long time.
My husband ordered the scallops which were served on such a hot plate the black pudding was very overcooked. This was removed from our bill after an honest conversation with the front of house staff who admitted they knew the plate was too hot when they served it in the kitchen - begs the question why did it leave the kitchen.
My starter fishcake was delicious.
We both ordered the Hake main and again we were a little disappointed when what was supposed to be a fondant potato had a skin on like a jacket potato and a leathery texture unlike any fondant potato we have cooked at home or been served elsewhere.
We both had raspberry soufflé which was really lovely, my husband would have preferred cheese but was left uninspired after enquiring about the selection which was very cheddar based.
The hotel is great. I found the food excellent. With restaurant experience i can say is freshly made and taste delicious. Great value for money. Is not a fast food PUB is a proper restaurant menu in a great venue. Highly recommended .
I simply cannot fault the restaurant at The George, everything we ordered was absolutely first class, the Homemade bread and fudge made for a great meal out. Thoroughly recommend.

I recently had the pleasure of dining at this restaurant for San Valentine's Day lunch, and I must say, I was thoroughly impressed! From the moment we walked in, we were greeted with warm hospitality and an inviting atmosphere. The decor was elegant yet cozy, with plenty of natural light flooding the space.
We started off with a delicious sirloin steak, cooked to perfection and bursting with flavor. The quality of the meat was truly outstanding, and it was accompanied by a lovely assortment of sides. We then finished off our meal with some expertly brewed coffee that was the perfect way to end our lunch.
The service was exceptional - our server was attentive and accommodating, making sure that all of our needs were met throughout the meal. The entire experience was top-notch, and I can't wait to return to this restaurant again in the near future.
Overall, I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for an exceptional dining experience. From the impeccable service to the delicious food, everything about this place was truly outstanding. Thank you for a wonderful San Valentine's Day lunch!

Everybody that works here seemed very polite and welcoming. We tried this one out after a three mile walk on Brampton Valley Way and it was a relief to walk into a warm, friendly place. Although busy there was plenty of comfortable seating and I enjoyed a cup of tea while my partner enjoyed his pint! As far as value for money goes, we had a look at the menu and I must say found it overpriced, but I did notice they do some nice set menus during the week and on a Sunday. What impressed me most besides the staff was the elegant decor that was very well thought out... everything had its place and there was plenty to look at. Even little thoughtful additions like the coat hooks, which most places seem to forget, made that extra bit of difference at The George. Would happily visit again. Dogs welcome in the bar area.
Lovely meal at The George last night. We had a late table booked for 8 people for 9pm due to other commitments but even so, nothing was too much trouble. They catered very well for 2 coeliacs. All the food looked amazing. Thankyou. We hope to return.
Food portions were really good value for money & just enough with the bowl of veg we also received with our food. Service was brilliant and speedy with food and drink orders. Could have asked after we'd had dessert if we'd like a hot drink or the bill but as we had the table for so long then there was no rush to kick us off!
Will definitely be coming back as there is also a nice little 2 mile walk from MH to the pub.
Dishes were so tasty and with good presents. Kind staff and easy parking space. Fish and chips is chef’s specialty with matching wine. All in all good experience.
This was my 2nd visit to The George in the last 6 weeks and it was as much of a treat as the first time.
The impeccable service starts from the moment you walk into the restaurant and are greeted by a lovely front of house lady. The food is superb as is the decor and the waiting on staff. The restaurant was very busy but there was no lengthy wait. Looking forward to my next visit 😊
