Fantastic place. The food was delicious and my nephew loved trying Redbush tea for the first time. I’ll be back again.

This is the kind of place the Lake District needed. Beautiful, fresh, inspired cooking in a fantastic contemporary setting. The crockery alone is worth a visit to see. We love eating here whenever we can and my only regret is that we don’t live a little closer to visit more often. Top tip- order the cauliflower soup. You’ll thank me later.

The best brownies, light and gooey but lovely and chocolatey. Great service.

Lovely lunch at Mathilde's on a Monday. Sun was shining view was lovely staff were friendly and lots of choice for food. I enjoyed the Hot dog, my Mum had the Meatballs will definitely recommend that then my Dad had the soup of the day. I enjoyed the Milk hot chocolate which was soooo delicious. Definitely worth a visit, beautiful paintings and artwork and ambiance.

The best Swedish meatballs I've ever had by far. I want to come back just to try the rest of the menu. Great selection of cakes and hot drinks too, and the connected art gallery is a nice extra.

Wonderful place. Stopped in for a reviving pot of tea after a walk around the lake. Sunny, buzzy and a delicious Scandi inspired menu. Best hot cross bun I’ve ever had. Gingerbread also very tasty. 😋 All the other food we saw coming out looked amazing too (hot dogs, schnitzels). Art gallery is quality with some skilful water colours of the local landscapes on show.

Stopped off here for a comfort break, ordered three drinks. Lovely outdoor seating area, art gallery inside. Take time to admire and enjoy the art. Clean toilets too. Staff were polite and friendly, relaxed atmosphere. Ideal location, right opposite the bus stop. Would definitely like to visit again.

I had a flat white and a miso hazelnut cake slice. They both were very good. I have no idea about their food, but I would recommend the place for the bakes and coffee for sure.

Art cafe with a Swedish twist, recommended in our cottage guestbook. Nice breakfast/lunch/pastry options. Requested for affogato with whisky marmalade and chocolate flavors but received two marmalade scoops :( luckily it is the less common flavor that arrives and it tastes quite nice. The citrusy whisky gelato also goes well with the espresso. Cheese and seeds scone looks and tastes good when toasted. A little more on the bread side. Not very crumbly, but the slight stickiness is also lovely. The shrimp and egg open sandwich is quite refreshing, especially the sour cabbage. Sourdough is a bit too oily— there’s literally oil dripping from it, but the bacon is super crisp. Service is friendly, but as said, can be better organized.

Everything here is excellent. I even ordered a salad (unheard of, feels like a missed opportunity for something greater) and I was really happy with it. Open faced sandwich was also a joy (everything on it was playing a part and it was a delight according to the eater!), as was the soup. Cakes also excellent. My gingerbread and lingonberry cake was a complete win, and I'll be making similar back home! Service was relaxed and friendly, and they cleared plates as they'd spotted we were queuing for cake, and offered more water etc. Can't fault any of it.

What a gem in Grasmere! Cosy, lovely cafe serving delicious food and drinks. All the food menu looked so good and the cakes are different and attractive. I could sit there all day to watch people walk by. The fact that the cafe is located inside/next to the Heaton Cooper Studio sets a unique, artistic atmosphere. I felt like I escaped the touristy realm for the time I was there. I had a spring salad with mint dressing and toasted buckwheat, topped with blue cheese. I enjoyed the flavours and how everything came together in a bowl. Huge amount of cheese worth £1.50 extra. Good portion to keep me going. Lovely filter coffee and yummy hot chocolate! The only regret is I didn't have the cakes because I was so full from my lunch. I was literally so upset because they all look SO GOOD.

We enjoyed several treats over a few days during our stay in Grasmere: coffee, tea, gelato, savoury soups and burgers, tarted, cakes and scones. The staff were always friendly and helpful, the food fresh and very tasty, a varied seasonal menu and good value for money. Dog-friendly outdoors only and there is a sheltered outdoor area with a few tables for those with pets. The setting is beautiful and it’s a popular spot. Get there early for a full range of options because they do go fast 😋

Tasty, Scandinavian inspired food with a view of the fells while you eat. I had the Mathilde's Hot Dog with a side order of fries. The price is a bit higher than average but the sausage was a good size, Scandinavian style and with really nice toppings - Remoulade, fried onion, onion crispy bits, and chives. Overall a delicious and filling hot dog. You can add cheese or bacon bits for a little extra charge. The fries were good - skin on and had vinegar salt on them. I took a Brownie and Tiffin home for later as they looked amazing - this was a great decision as they tasted even better than they look. The brownie is particularly nice - rich, gooey, with a nice flaky top. Lovely!

The food is absolutely yummy, great for brunch/lunch, lovely fresh ingredients and beautifully presented. Great coffee. Love the gallery setting. The staff couldn’t be more welcoming and thoughtful. Dogs can’t go into the cafe (fair enough) but lovely outdoor seating and staff really made a lovely fuss of our dogs. Can’t recommend enough.

Wonderful cafe, great menu and a well stocked cake counter. Would recommend trying the hot chocolate with homemade marshmallows and anything that comes with pickles! Service is always friendly and efficient, even when busy. The gallery and shop are also beautifully curated and well worth a visit.

Great coffee - our flat whites were spot on! This is a unique cafe in Grasmere with a clean, modern aesthetic and picturesque setting. Inside there’s a few tables, and if you’re lucky like us, you can enjoy your coffee by a floor to ceiling window that really brings the quaint garden indoors. Outside, the tables at the front of the cafe were mostly occupied by cheery dog owners and their pets, adding to the lovely vibe. The staff were lovely and very upbeat, despite the never ending queue of customers on a warm August day. We also loved the exhibition that was on in the gallery space, which also enhanced our experience here. I’d really recommend stopping in if you can.

Now what's not to love about this place, there is art, craft material and amazing coffee, tea and cakes. We'll worth a look atbthe art, browse the books and gifts then settle down for a brew and and a cake. Faultless service.

There is good reason this cafe is very popular and consequently busy. A very modern and tasty take on traditional cafe food, almost in the category of art. With so much choice where to eat in the lakes Mathildes is must to try.
