We dropped in for brunch and had the delicious avocados and mushrooms on sourdough. Very tasty and well presented. It was quite hard to work out what was vegan from the menu, but the staff were great at helping us. Despite it being quite busy, the staff were doing a great job with orders and we didn't have to wait long for our food. We also loved walking around the orchard and along the river. It's an absolutely beautiful spot. Highly recommended.
Very good scones! About £3.60 each without cream and jam. They have cakes, coffee, wine, and of course tea. The garden is lovely and spacious - you can set up your own chairs and plot yourself under the sun for some warmth.
You can't beat the outdoor sitting area and the meadows for walking (5 stars just for that reasoning alone). Flat white was good and cakes etc are fairly standard. They stop serving food at 3pm, so we missed it this time. Also, the tables outside need to be cleaned more often.
Lovely garden and great vibe to enjoy the last big of summer, except for some queuing in a good weather, but understandable. Plus, perfect view and distance to hike back to the city. Highly recommend!
Very nice place for brunch or lunch. Scones were particularly delicious, freshly baked and nice. Relaxing atmosphere and children friendly space. Totally recommend.
Spacious and beautiful tea garden. We spent a couple of hours enjoying our cream tea and the outdoor garden. The food was good, the garden was lovely. To those who would like to visit—be prepared to spend substantial amount of time queuing and then looking for a place to sit since even in February it was challenging to find an unoccupied table.
Pros
*Freshly baked scones with clotted cream and variety of jams
*Big and beautiful garden
*Picturesque pathways and surrounding areas, we walked to Cambridge after having a cream tea and enjoyed our little walk immensely
Cons
*Queues 😑
*Staff are here to mind the cash counter, you would beed to find a table and bring your trays there by yourself. Tbh, it’s not really a con, just a mild inconvenience but I almost dropped my tray since it was heavy and that’s an unpleasant memory.
*As tables and chairs are often located under the trees, don’t be surprised to see bird poo covering them.
😊
Great place for afternoon tea.
We went canoeing down the river and finished it off with a cream tea and a drink. Really relaxing place with cool deckchairs and tables outside in the garden.
Very busy as it was a hot day so was a challenge to find a free one but definitely worth it.
This is a little gem located in grantchester.
Take a lovely walk to the tea garden from Cambridge and enjoy a light lunch or cream tea before strolling back.
There's a very good selection of delights on offer.
They offer a range of teas and milks, there's usually over half a dozen different cakes to choose from and they they provide gluten free!
Now getting on to the coffee, so listen up coffee lovers. They once sold something that was meant to resemble "coffee" I use this term loosely, however now (June 2023) they've upped their game in serious style. Their coffee is simply some of the best in Cambridge! No this is not a joke. The grantchester tea gardens have great coffee! I would say it rivals hot numbers and bould brothers easily, but with much better surroundings. The only other place that is on par with the coffee at the grantchester tea garden, is in the flock cafe at Burwash manor in Barton.
The food on offer is very nice and I don't know if it tastes better surrounded by lovely greenery but it's certainly good.
The whole setting is lovely for meeting friends, enjoying it with family or just sitting with a book and enjoying the song of the birds.
Well worth a trip.
They're dog friendly and I recently had a cute pair of ducks come and sit by me. Definitely a little gem of a place.
Bonus: the car park is currently free to patrons!
Iconic garden and tea room not far from the river Cam. The perfect stop for anyone taking the walk from Cambridge to Grantchester. It can be very busy on Sundays during the Summer, so try to get there early.
We really enjoyed sitting out in the garden and having our scones. I also got a salad which was ok but the scones were a lot more exciting. I love the vibe here it’s worth coming and hanging out on a nice day!
Scones are impeccable, to the extent that thinking about coming here for the scone can save me from cravings for scones at many other places (such as coffee chains).
Ham and Cheddar Panini Melt was surprisingly tasty. The bread was crisp and thin (less carbs for me) and the cheese melts perfectly on the ham. The crisps were really crunchy.
Coffee from automated machine. Nothing really to comment on without the injection of some human spirit. Not bad. Tea from Twining tea bags, which is a little sad for a tea garden, isn’t it?
Food and drink is quite overpriced here, but it’s worth paying for the environment at the lovely and relaxing garden.
— update 2023
Same lovely scones after change of hands. Lucky we made it a few minutes before closing and bought one of the last tray— warm out of oven. Inside the crunchy shell, it is moist yet indulgently crumbly, not too sweet. Still my favorite in Cambridge and among the top in my UK list.

Such a long line during the warm October Sunday afternoon. The scone is wonderful as usual. Warm, crusty, moist. A little richer and more salted-buttery than usual.
Very traditional English tea room with beautiful outside seating under the fruit trees. Chill out in a deckchair and enjoy a book. Walk along the river through paradise gardens and into Cambridge.
My third visit here in 20 years. Very nostalgic place. The cakes and scones taste better every time. The seating is not only deck chairs now. There is water freely available.
The cakes look amazing on display. The queue to purchase your food is always long. Trays are provided. The scones are ginormous… so many different types of Jams! Strawberry jam is my go to, but I also tried the apricot jam which exceeded my expectations entirely.
The atmosphere is relaxed and calm. It is a very family friendly place- with lots of retirees enjoying the good weather and excellent quinine.
Lunch foods a no longer served after 3pm.
You normally pay for parking but as the ticket machine was broken- no one had to pay this time!
It would not be a visit to Cambridge without a visit to the orchard in Grantchester
Nice place to be but grossly over-expensive for what it is. They should also spend some money on the toilets as they are pretty gross too. There is no real service hence the middle ranking.
Lovely garden space and really nice food selection with local ingredients! A sunny day would flood the counters a bit too much, so get here arky to find a spot or chairs! Had some warm scones for cream tea one sunday afternoon, which was lovely.
I met friends here today and we all sat out in the sunshine and chatted while we dined. We all had the Welsh Rarebit which tasted absolutely spot on. I finished up with a slice of coffee and walnut cake which was so yummy. The other three had scones which they said were very good. The coffees and teas were hot and tasty too. I can’t fault anything. They are now under different management and it certainly showed. We will be back! Thanks a lot
An historic place that you must visit if you're in the area. It's about 30 minutes walk from Cambridge. I have tea here and only eaten an apple pie, which was fine. They now do more vegetarian options but very few vegan options.
The best time to come is when the weather is good because you can sit outside in the orchard on deckchairs.
It's good for groups too.
Afternoon tea in the cafe.
Lovely scones, cakes and sausage rolls.
Can get very busy at weekends especially in the summer - we had the restaurant to ourselves on a quiet weekday afternoon in May.
Great for entertaining friends and family and away from the city crowds.
By far the best scones I've ever had. Their scones are so popular the fresh ones being baked constantly. Felt it's bit pricy for what you get but it was really good scones...
However it's a cafeteria style serving (you bring your tray and take it to your seat yourself) so no service is provided really.
