Family friendly pub that also welcomes dogs. Worth booking in advance as very popular at weekends. We were told there was a 45 minute wait on food but it was actually only about 20 min.
Veggie burger oozed hot cheese. The BBQ cauliflower wings were the best bit - they should definitely consider doing this as a main dish!
Cow burger was deemed tasty and filling.
Very good value. Would recommend.
Had a carvery, which was excellent, everything cooked to perfection.
It's a bit of a barn of a place made to look old but comfy enough. The staff were very efficient and quick but didn't seem all that friendly. A few more smiles would have made us feel more welcome. Having said that we went for nice food and that's what we got. Will be back.
We had a table booked for 7.15 but got there really early which was not a problem as there was loads of empty tables. We ordered the carvery. I was not impressed with the quality of the veg it looked like it had been sitting there a while but it was half 7 by the time we had food so it could of been the lateness. Staff were friendly and polite so no real issues
Popped down for a carvery, can honestly say today was the the best carvery I have had in a very long time. Meat was tender and vegetables were cooked to perfection. Roast potatoes were crispy.
Even the lady carving the meat was happy and friendly which is unusual I tend to find them pretty miserable lol.
Please keep up the good work and keep to that standard.
I will be back.
Starters are lovely. We went for carvery it was OK but everything looked dried up. They did bring out more of stuff but twice first looked at carvery and was a no no tried it second time tasted better than it looked but would defo order something other than carvery in future. Staff very pleasant and helpful.
I actually really like it here. Some food & drinks but amazingly helpful/friendly staff. A few years on, but in December of 2022, it's still lovely.
Now 2023 and I must say that the carvery is really good. I do like it.
Good access, plenty parking with an open plan lay out around the bar. Staff are friendly and helpful and the establishment is staff to deal with busy periods keeping waiting times to an acceptable level. Food is excellent and reasonable priced.
My only niggle is that it’s relatively open plan and quite a noisy environment, which is not the greatest for those with autism.
Overall, highly recommend
Popped in yesterday for lunch. The barman was very welcoming, friendly and informative, he clearly enjoys working there which is a good reflection on the Landlord. Although it wasn't terribly busy we were surprised at how quickly our food arrived. I ordered a Tuna melt and believe me I love Tuna and it was the 3rd time this week I'd had it for lunch. I can only say that what I was served was by far the best. Warm crusty bread, melted cheese and just the right amount of mayonnaise and delicious chips to go with it. My husband had the philby steak melt and enjoyed it s much as I did mine. We will definitely be back soon.
On a busy Sunday lunchtime myself my wife and my 2 children came for a carvery.
We hadn't reserved a table and due to the success of this wonderful pub it was very busy with many reserved tables. We were greeted warmly by Sarah Jane who looked around for a table for four.
Things looked bleak for us, but never fear Sarah Jane took some chairs that weren't being used and swiftly made up a table for us.
We all enjoyed our carvery and it was made all the more special by her going the extra mile.
Thank you, you are a credit to The Sailmaker
Very promptly shown to our booked table and informed of the options to pay. I opted to use the QR code and order online as the bar area was getting busy. The app was really easy to use and I got all the way to the payment page but there was no option to apply the discount code that I had. I asked at the bar and was informed that to use a code I would have to order at the bar. *To encourage more use of the app, you should be able to add a discount code (like most retailers offer).*
I then had to wait nearly 10 minutes to place my order, not in itself a problem as I know this is a popular time to eat. *However, it would be useful if there could be a distinction between people queueing for a table, waiting to order food, or just buying a drink.* There were people to the door. Additionally, with only 2 people behind the bar it did feel like things were taking longer than necessary.
The food and service was really good though. My steak was probably closer to medium well than medium rare but small niggles.
Will definitely be back.

The food was delicious at this place yesterday. A lovely young man came round and explained about ordering systems etc. Plenty of parking. A couple of let downs stop a five star - some of the furniture was a little tired and dented and it wasn't explained where the condiments were located when the meals came out. Overall a lovely place.
Good pub in a good location in North Gosport. I had the carvery which has been better, the gammon was lovely but the beef very dry, the roast potatoes needed more time in oven and carrots were dry, overall nice but could be better. Good service from carvery but felt like they were having a bad day in the kitchen and bar staff looked tired.
The service was lovely! great welcoming when i arrived! food was amazing! and the desserts and the drinks were on point and just very warm and cosy experience. definitely will be going more often
Came here after watching a game of Ice Hockey with my friends. We were a walk in of 7 people and the staff said wait 5 minutes. So we did then we got a table, on a Saturday evening. I am impressed and the food and service was fantastic. Really good value for money and would definitely recommend!
Friendly staff team, very nice food. There was a bit of a wait after the starter but there was 6 if us. Would definitely return soon
