Review The Trawler - Golspie

Harshit Suvarna
One of the best fish and chips i had in scotland. The fish was perfectly cooked with a light crispy batter paired with perfectly fried light golden chips, crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. A must try if you are driving through Golspie and need to grab a bite quickly.

The food was great, a little oily but normal for a chippy. They offer gluten free options which is an almost immediate 5 star in my book. We had a fish and chips each with curry gravy and mushy peas. Do not miss out on the curry gravy! The only downside is that there is nowhere to sit.

Quick service on a Monday Eve. Very good portion. Always check opening times very carefully. The restaurant is closed on the Monday Eve, at the moment. Unfortunately for us, but we decided to make it a dashboard dinner. Didn't sit outside as weren't prepared to share with the (sea)gull. Friendly staff.

Mama P the manager was very helpful and kind. We had the fish and chips and it was delicious. The local beers were also tasty.

Quick and tasty take-away fish and chips. My girlfriend and I arrived late at our stay for the night and came in half an our before closing. Even then, great service, tasty food.

Paulina was lovely and couldn't have been more accommodating. The gluten free fish and chips were delicious..some of the best gf batter I've had....and then she showed me cake!!...being dairy and gluten intolerant i barely get to have dessert so when I found i could have the lemon polenta cake it was a done deal....absolutely lovely place to eat..we both devoured our meals!. Paulina was a great host and was more than happy to chat..would definitely go again if I'm up this way ...keep it up Paulina..esp the gf/df baking ❤️

Staying in the area and Googled a Fish and Chip shop. Came up as nearby and the reviews read well. On arrival we managed to park outside free of charge and get straight in. Food was cooked on request and came fresh and warm. Possibly a little higher price than we are used to but can't comment on how it compares to others in the area.

This is a fantastic little spot for a cheeky chippy and fried fish! We stopped on our way up to the Orkney Islands and it was well worth it. There was a short queue, but we didn’t wait long. The food was damn tasty and we enjoyed our fish and a deep fried blood pudding snack on the beach! They aren’t skimp on the tartar either, which is great. It was all super!

Exceptional quality fish and chips in a really cosy and warmly decorated place. The chicken burger was awesome, and as always the chips were fresh and light. Service from the young waitress was really prompt, polite, and friendly. Couldn't fault it. The other lady who we chatted with at the end of the meal was really friendly. However, on learning we live locally, her level of professionalism dropped. She might want to address this to avoid alienating local customers. Overall, exceptional quality food. However, value-wise, you could definitely do better. The prices are a little spicy.

Lovely chip shop , delicious food , good service , thank you very much. Clearly a well loved place by locals and not so locals.

Gluten free range to die for. Nothing was too much trouble and all the staff were very knowledgeable. Sadly didn't get a chance to take a photo because I couldn't stop stuffing my face. The rest of the family that had full gluten, it was amazing too!!

Arrived at this wonderful restaurant after several hours of travelling and opted to dine in. So glad we did, as me and my wife were made very welcome by the ever so warm, friendly and charming Momma P. The food was promptly delivered, tasted fabulous and set us up perfectly for the remainder of the journey. An outstanding, award winning and absolutely delightful dining experience. Marvellous!

Been here twice now 2018/2021 with my visits to the Highlands of Scotland. Crunchy chips with fluffy centres and delicious boneless cod portions. Good value for top quality takeaway.

We come here every time we are up on holiday and its our favourite chippy. We decided to eat in the restaurant rather than take away as it was windy. I'm so glad we did, we were looked after by the fascinating and welcoming Mamma P. She was so lovely to our kids and provided 5⭐️ service. We will definitely come back and sit in again.

Great fish and chips. Strongly recommended.

Not to be dramatic, but this place ruined all other fish and chips for me. I tried fish and chips about 4 or 5 other times on my two week roadtrip around Scotland, and this place had by far the best flavor. I came here after visiting Dunrobin castle. I only took a star off bc I couldn't sit down to eat and had to eat in my car. Thank you Trawlers!

Good portions of fish and chips, well cooked and plenty of flavour. Kids loved it too. Ideally located on main high street.

We eat at The Trawler last night and the food was very nice and fresh. Trawler burger was a little over cook as for my taste but still was ok. We fall in love with Mama P! Happy lady with big smile and amazing service was the highlight of our journey! What make it even more special-she was from Poland as well ! Will be back to see you Trawler!

A nice place to visit, and a high standard of Fish and Chips. A decent menu, not to large making choosing a meal much easier. Staff are bright and friendly. Has a good reputation in Golspie which is a good sign. Only negative is the meager amount of chips with the fish.

Absolutely recommend this restaurant or take away fish and chip shop. The best fish and chips I've ever had staff very friendly lovely cosy warm restaurant with log burner and a very reasonable price

The best chips and smoked sausage I've ever had. I cannot recommend this shop highly enough.

My partner and I had take away fish suppers on Friday. Never had such a poor meal. Fish was greasy and batter not cooked. Chips had black and green on. Both were ill for 2 days. Even the dog was sick after eating some fish! Will never go back. All those giving a good review must be easily pleased.

Little hidden gem, excellent food and great service, well worth a visit, promise you won't leave hungry that's for sure!

Stopped in past here yesterday and had one of the best chippies I have had in a while! Shame I’m so far away as would be a regular customer

I'm giving these 5 stars on behalf of my parents who took a jaunt out from Brora today to find that the restaurant is closed on Sundays. Disappointed but quite prepared to take their carry-out to the car the young gentleman in the takeway offered that they could sit in the front part of the restaurant to eat it, and when they accepted ensured they were comfy and enjoying their meal. The food was excellent as always they told me, but most of all they were impressed by the kindness and courtesy of the staff who went over and above! They have left feedback but at 77 and 91 are not able to publicise so asked me to do so. Well done Trawler and particularly your team on duty today!!

Excellent food and they couldn't do enough to accommodate us, they even sent a member of staff over to the shop to buy apple juice for my son! The fish & chips were fabulous and cooked to perfection, no sign of grease whatsoever, delicious! The portions are huge too. We sat in the restaurant and despite it being extremely busy the waitress was pleasant and remained calm and managed to keep everyone happy.

Just sat in for a family chippy tea. The Trawler were so accommodating and able to cater no problem for my son's gluten-free diet. He scoffed his dinner. A special shout-out to Megan who brought us colouring-in for the kids and was friendly and welcoming too.

I met the owner, Christie, not long after he opened the Trawler, I think it was 2012. It was my birthday and I decided to pop in this new restaurant I had been hearing about. I am so glad that I did! Delicious food, and the owner really makes you feel right at home. He always remembers my name and the staff thane really good care of me, no matter how busy they get. I believe I've been to this restaurant 100 times since they opened, and I have never been disappointed!!

Used to love the chips from here. Went today and they were disgusting. Tasted like old chips re heated . Rock hard ( nearly broke a tooth ) . Will never go there again . Don’t know what’s happened to the place
