Had a lovely bacon baguette and hot steamy hot coffee. They do fabulous Sunday Roast, book in advance as it's very popular. Great place to stop off whilst walking the River Wey towpath.

Enjoyed fruit cake and a cup of freshly-brewed coffee with a beautiful cup and saucer on a late summer afternoon by the river with a beautiful view. What a luxury! Great service with good British humour, warmth and generosity. I also had Sunday Roast here a few years ago. We went along with a chef friend who used to work at top restaurants in London and he complimented on the quality of Hector's roast so there you go! (To those who complain about the service --- check the menu beforehand or do not expect superficial friendliness. IMHO, whatever one receives is a reflection of one's own thoughts and behaviors and so those who complain and criticise are ironically trumpeting to this entire universe that they are themselves judgmental, rude and negative (or you were yourself in a bad vibe that day)! Be kind and respectful to others first and then you will receive kindness and generosity in return. That's the universal rule! Warm regards.)

Some people with no sense of humour seem to have been offended by the warm and jolly service from Hector and (sorry we didn’t get your name) the other proprietor… but we had a great time! Excellent soup and warm bread, and as we said, the jokes were free! What’s not to love? We will definitely come back. Made our day.

Any with memories of fawlty rowers will love this place. I was introduced to Hector's visiting my father for a lunch, while some may find the service humour a little blunt I found it rather refreshing and hilarious in these homogenous 'have a nice day' times. While the food is unashamedly of the home made type, it won't please gastro pub enthusiasts but its tasty, hearty and served with the kind of service usually withheld for foreign visitors to a village pub! Peter & Peter, well done for a wonderfully amusing lunch, I hope to next time final meet the local vegetarian tart, if she's available 😉😉😂

A proper cafe serving a cafetiere of freshly made coffee or a teapot for your tea - how it should be done. You get fabulous service from two chaps with the best sense of humour. I see from other reviews they cannot take a joke !! The food is freshly prepared, not FAST FOOD at all, served well with salad/chips etc and you simply feel a sense of belonging at the cafe. I have been visiting this place for several years, it is my secret, part of me wants to keep it that way !!! Remember this place is a local Cafe - not a huge chain making millions - take it for what it is and enjoy the camaraderie I dare you.

I've been going to Hector's for 15 years now and really like it. It's cosy in the winter and a nice place to sit out in the summer. I like the simple food done well. I have to say it's not a place for awkward, needy or fussy types, it's all about honest food and a relaxed picturesque setting. The prices are very good, tea, sandwich and cake for around £10 is very good value these days. Keep your eye out for the kingfishers and grey wagtails too.

They make the best chips ever. Lovely friendly staff. Nice atmosphere. A welcome stop whilst doing our long walk along the river.

Best christmas lunch, among volunteers serving like in family. A bliss like no other. If you are expecting sophistication this is not your place. If you like community and warmth, this is definitively your place.

`I love this place. It is perhaps best described as 'traditional' which means that it could be used as a setting for a film set several decades ago. The food is unpretentious and delicious though limited in options compared to many modern cafes. Staff always take pride in serving you and are not worried if you turn up by boat, bike, or muddy boot.

A great venue for groups. Food is delicious, well cooked and good sized portions. Hector's is run by a friendly team who offer a great service. Unlike lots of places there was no rush to leave. Highly recommended if looking for a relaxed venue in Godalming area.
