I met a friend for lunch and was really impressed by The Refectory. We received a warm welcome at the bar and were guided to our table by one of the staff. The open fire was a lovely touch as it was a bit cold outside. The interior of the dining area is absolutely stunning, plenty of character and comfy seats. We ordered our food and what arrived looked fantastic. The steak sandwich was delicious and cooked to perfection. I know we'll certainly return as we enjoyed such a lovely time.
Staff were amazing! Kind, attentive, considerate. Can not recommend them highly enough. Food was delicious. We each had something different and we were all thrilled. The pork was particularly magnificent.
The ambience is so lovely. The wood and exposed brick work, the stain glass. Play area for kids. Outdoor eating. Wow. Just wow!
This is such a beautiful destination pub. I would love a little tour of the place as it's filled with original features and curiosities. There are plenty of little nooks and plugs, if you're working. And lots of big tables for parties. Plus lovely outside space. The food and selection of beers was also top notch.
A very nice place to visit in any occasion. A very worm environment with nice decorations! A warm and friendly environment making you feel very comfortable at all times. Staff very polite and always around. The food was amazing everything we tried was very tasty and well cooked! Prices were reasonable and in accordance with high quality of food ans service. A cozy and warm place highly recommended!!!!!
Had a fabulous few hours here, out in the garden. Place is HUGE and beautiful. Nice Provence Rosé & some fabulous beer battered prawns. The feta and watermelon salad was also very tasty.
Would highly recommend if you're in the area.
Unassuming from the outside but upon entering I found myself transported back to the old times... old wooden beams, high vaulted ceilings, more old wooden beams and all the trappings of a tavern from a "yea olde pub". Service was excellent and the atmosphere was bustling. Short wait for a gourmet extravaganza - yes the food was sumptuous! I had my fill and headed off to find where I had tethered my steed with a mind to do something wooden beamy to my front room upon the morrow... parking was also plentiful. +5 HP
Gorgeous pub with very, very friendly service. Each waiter we encountered had a broad smile and made us feel very welcome.
Food is a bit more pricey than other pubs, but there is table service instead of ordering at the bar.
The roast was excellent and worth every penny.
We have driven past here so many times and never actually popped in.
So one Saturday afternoon whilst a few friends were around from a wedding the night before we thought we would give it a go.
We weren’t disappointed.
The interior of the pub is amazing, massive ceilings with wooden beams and the garden area was equally pretty, also very nice because you couldn’t hear the main road the other side as the garden was virtually enclosed by buildings.
They had a decent selection of beers which I’m afraid is what I usually rate a pub on as I don’t drink anything else.
The food was very nice as well, I had the curry and the flavours were amazing, even the rice was really nice which is a strange thing to say as rice usually is just rice, but they had flavoured it and made it just that little bit special.
All in all we had a thoroughly lovely afternoon here and will be returning.
1st December 2022 update:
Further to my previous review, we went back on the 1st for an evening meal with friends.
The place felt warm and cozy despite it being 2’c outside, which I commented must be costing them a fortune to do, especially as it’s an old building with single glazing.
We were there with friends and I had the Pork Belly, which wasn’t your traditional pork belly, as it was rolled and the skin wasn’t hard and crispy, but it was a great take on this. The thing I thought was the most striking about it was the Pea Purée, it was incredibly tasty. The whole dish was well put together and nice and filling. Another 5 star review.
The place is absolutely stunning, decoration space , dog friendly and staff top 10. Unfortunately we went to have Sunday Roast. At 3pm they run out of beef (we were 4 people) they only have for 1 beef and 1 mix with pork. We could not eat the beef, it was overcook and dry. Basically the quality of the Sunday roast doesn’t match with such a beautiful place.
Had a great Sunday lunch here today; the best I've had in a few years. Service is fantastic with plenty of pleasant, attentive staff to meet the busy demand. Wonderful building with lots of quirky nooks and crannies. Will definitely be back for another Sunday lunch soon and plan to try it out through the week too. Can't wait to try one of the brilliant desserts; was too full to have one today after having the great prawn and crab cocktail starter and the Sunday roast beef with cauliflower and cheese on the side.
