Had a fabulous Monday afternoon here this week. Service was very friendly and efficient. Food was delicious, particularly the teriyaki beef noodles! Will definitely be back.
Surprisingly delicious! I tried Soba on a whim because it was the first Asian food I saw by the bus stop, and it turned out to be a great choice! The atmosphere was chill, with a definite hipster vibe. I LOVE vegetable gyoza, and theirs is definitely on par with some great Japanese restaurants, even if the portion was small (probably not enough to share, at least). For my meal, I got the Shang Mai noodle bowl, a coconut-based broth with chicken & prawns. It was delicious and far more than I could eat! The service was only ok - my waitress kept forgetting I was there somehow, even though there were only 3 other tables in the restaurant (I went at a definite off-hour); however, the manager was attentive & welcoming, and my food was served quickly and hot! PS. GREAT beer selection.
Visited here on a very sunny day so we sat outside, the seating was comfortable and there was a nice atmosphere.
Had the soba sharing platter between two of us, it was very good, the prawn lollipops were especially good. We then had Nasi Goreng and Japanese Katsu curry which we were both very satisfied with. Got a good price on the main meals as they had a student deal on main dishes.
To drink we tried a couple of the cocktails; my boyfriend had an umbongo and I asked for the pineapple and basilito. They didn't have any basil in at the time so the bartender made me up a pinapplito instead...it was still very nice.
Service was fine, it seemed a queue kept building up at the bar but this is to be expected with one bartender on and a very long cocktail list.
I love this place. Great food (I can highly recommend the Nasi Goreng,) and a good atmosphere, all helped along by a cracking house red wine. Only problem I have is deciding what to have next time! Excellent value for money - a welcome addition to the West End.
We walked into the very cool looking restaurant – graffiti anime on the corrugated metallic walls, wooden bench tables and fresh flowers on the bar. It was very bright and, well, cool. We took a seat and had a good look over the menu. There is a huge variety to choose from, and there are also great lunch deals to let you explore the menu without it costing a bomb! Starters Asian Dumplings These were so good – coriander is one of my favourite tastes, ever, and Asian cooking is right up my street as they use it fresh in a lot of di
Bar Soba is probably my favourite restaurant in Glasgow in terms of the atmosphere - lively yet relaxed, with good music, and great decor. The staff has always been helpful and friendly. Their presentation is fantastic, and the food seems fresh - it certainly tastes great, though it is quite greasy at times.
The extensive cocktail menu has something in there for everyone. What I find interesting is their varied takes on the bloody mary's that compliment their Sunday Brunch menu.
Overall, the food is good, but their service is often slow. Not the best asian food, but definitely a great bar!
The best part though is the 2:1 on mains for students, on Weekdays! -so worth it!
The food at bar soba is fantastic, although some of it is pretty spicy, so worth asking the waitors if you prefer milder spice.
Large variety of drinks. The Thai Lemonade was delicious - it tasted a bit like a pina colada.
The service was great too!
I had a beef wrap called beef burger at Bar Soba this afternoon. It actually was very tasty however I would have liked to eat a burger with their good looking burger buns rather than a wrap. Their fries were good too. The cocktails are delicious. I love that they have a very big student discount and they are society-friendly as well. Staff was nice and patient with a big group. Nice atmosphere and interior. Recommend a visit! However, keep in mind that this is an Asian fusion restaurant, therefore their dishes are a mix of different cultures and isn't like traditional Asian food.
This is the first time I have visited Bar Soba in a while and I am glad I did. I was with a group of seven and we all really enjoyed our food. The sambal in particular was great.
Bigger brighter brother of its small city centre sister. More of a food hall than a pub but quite a funky place to be
Loved the last Bar Soba experience in Glasgows Merchant City so thought we would try the Byers rd branch as we were out in the West End , the staff were very friendly and professional and we had seats by the window, looking around we were the oldest by far in the restaurant but this is a very studenty area .The food was fantastic again , I had the Chicken Sate followed by the Nasi Goreng which was delicous , cant really fault anything about the place , toilets immaculately clean , staff courteous and the food gorgeous , even the art in the toilets is on another level
I went to Bar Soba alone, to dine after a concert in Oran Mor, even though I appeared without booking they accommodated. The service was exemplary, they didn't hover and interject they just seemed a lot more intuitive; they came when things were finished or when I looked for assistance.
I had prawn dumplings and chicken saté, without exaggeration these were the best of either I've EVER had! The dumplings were lightly fried and had a sumptuous filling. The saté tasted chargrilled but juicy with a slight topping of roasted peanuts and the sauce was glossy and rich.
I had the chicken katsu for main, and I'll be damned: in 15 years of dining UK wide I've not had a combination of just enough rice to chicken ratio, which is rare (normally cheaper/shoddy places bulk on rice). The katsu it's self was exceptionally crispy whilst being juicy and visually pleasing! Just excellent food, executed exceptionally.
I asked for water to start (normally this elicits a 'eurgh' and rolled eyes) and it was nice, whilst I browsed the drink menu. I had an old fashioned, a chocolate orange coffee martini and a Russian sailor. All were made to be aesthetically and olfactory pleasing! The old fashioned was brilliant, a must! Often people forget to spritz with citrus zest to tie in the bouquet but it was all there! The martini was decadent but not overpowering and the Russian sailor was new to me... Really creamy but balanced.
I spent over 3 hours there, wasn't rushed, was expertly taken care of, the staff couldn't have been more accommodating. The shocker? The bill. I had guesstimated it to be double what I paid.
I dine out alone often (especially due to work/commitments) and I find you're normally neglected, it's assumed you'll be a low yield as for purchase and I'd assume tip. It was the opposite in Bar Soba, my service was as great as everyone around me, and even though I was the last person there they never once even instigated me leaving with "would you like the cheque?".
I'll definitely be back, new Asian favourite with a killer drinks menu! I really appreciated the service, food, drink and finesse of it all. Seriously, forget the other places in Byres Road, go here even if it's for finger food and a drink.
One of my favourite places to eat in the west end! Always amazing food and service
We came to Byres road on Saturday pretty last minute but the staff did their best to accommodate us & get us a table, the service was 10/10 as where the drinks. We ended up staying for food which I’m glad we did, tasty food - great portions - well presented, couldn’t ask for much more. The girl Ellie who sorted our table was brilliant, she went over and above for us! Already booked to come back next weekend :)
Went there for the first time today with a good friend and I have to admit I wish I had been there before! The food was just succulent and the service was spot on.
The only constructive criticism is that it takes a relatively long time to get the food for lunch. Usually, lunch people are more in a hurry than dinner people because they have to go back to work. If waiting time could be cut down a little to let's say 10 minutes, that would be great.
Great Asian food, lots of seating, and good discounts for students. Afternoon meals are heavily discounted. Students have discounts of around 40% for food and 20% for drinks. Not crowded in afternoons. The restaurant/bar has a clean restroom.
Love this place. The food is amazing. Friendly & helpful staff. Fantastic cocktail menu. Lots of drink / meal offers, & I think students get a discount too. Always a good atmosphere even if just in for a drink. Outdoor seating which is great for people watching. Discovered tonight that it's also dog friendly, staff said they actively encourage customers to bring their dog along.

Delicious food, fast service and great drinks. Can't go wrong with loaded fries.
Wow, great food, and came out super quick, great for a fast lunch. Cocktails were very generous (and the menu you extensive) and service was friendly and attentive. All around great!
Staff was very friendly and everyone had a tasty dinner although the menu could do with a spice scale. Some spicy dishes on the menu singed off your taste buds while others weren't overpowered. Maybe something to ask the waiter next time. But overall nice experience. Would go again (and hopefully I won't forget my student discount next time)
Our second Bar Soba visit, this time in Glasgow. We only popped in for a quick drink for my partner's birthday. I HIGHLY recommend the Yellow Dragon if you are looking for something unique. Staff were very pleasant and the bartender sang Happy Birthday and it made Becca's day!
Authentic Thai pad thai (noodles) and Thai curry.
Japanese curry also nice but if you crave for authentic this food this is the place to go.
Bonus: for students 50% off
