Went to brel for £6 before 6 on mussels and frites, it is very worth it, upgraded to truffle fries for less than £1 and truly the best truffle fries ive ever had, i would recommend lemongrass sauce if u like herbs, bacon if u like savoury and wine sauce if u like creamy

Really like this place. Has great food and atmosphere to match. However, the staff aren't particularly friendly, in fact one or two are plain rude.

Great location and good atmosphere. Often have drinks here. We had food in the conservatory - 1 ordered the gourmet burger and i had the Flemish bean stew. The burger was excellent and generous size. Sadly my food was meant to be a main but the size of a starter. Good all round selection on menu though, interesting belgian fare. Recommend you give it a try

The conservatory and outdoor seating areas at Brel are simply marvellous. It’s without a doubt, one of the best spots to hit in the city when the sun is shining. Inside, Brel is a cozy bar with a traditional feel that’s atmospheric and full of little hidden nooks and crannies for you to hide away in. But outside, it’s bright, airy, rel

Glasgow has many bars and pubs that sell food. I can be sceptical about the food in these places because in my head lots of them buy in frozen junk that they pass off as food instead of whipping up something delicious. The first time that I can remember having truly great food in a pub was when I was in London staying with friends. The Earl Spencer in Southfields was like one of these ‘gastropubs’ I’d seen on the telly & I was pleased as punch sitting with my half kilo of shell on fresh prawns. I returned to Glasgow thinking how amazing it would be to live in London with places like that to eat. All I want from a pub that sells food is high quality. A full on ‘Gastropub’ with a seasonal menu would be nicer but I’ll settle for pleasant surroundings, quality beers on tap & food that is better than average. Fast forward a few years, a change in ownership and the new improved Brel emerges on Ashton Lane.

After eating at Brel years back and thinking it was okay but not enough to make me go back, Brel would not have been on my radar. But then I was invited to a night to celebrate the new menu that I couldn’t make but the other bloggers photos looked delicious. So I put it on my list & we went along one night after work.

The mussels came recommended so Mr S & I decided to share a starter portion in a smoked bacon, caramelised onions, white wine and cream sauce. They were certainly the best mussels I’ve had this year, if not longer. The sauce was delicious and there was bread for dipping. We both said that we need to go back soon just for a big pot of mussels. Probably better that they stop serving food around 10pm because otherwise we’d all be leaving working and having late night mussel snacks.

Mr S chose the ribs for his main but regretted it afterwards. Not because they weren’t nice – he just said that ribs taste almost the same wherever you go – but because the mussels had been so good that he wish he’d ordered them.

I was curious about the slow cooked brisket of beef, seared skirt steak, pancetta and dauphinoise potato so I ordered it. I don’t know which chef thought up the idea of having slow cooked brisket on the same plate as medium rare skirt steak but I would be ecstatic if they could come to my house & sort my dinner out tonight.

I went through a stage last year when every meal out that I had was so fabulous that I worried that I’d lowered my standards but I broke that streak recently with some just okay meals. Luckily, Brel has now broken this trend and exceeded my expectations.

Great atmosphere. Was a little cramped getting to & from our table based on how others were seated. Meatballs were okay. Chocolate fondue was so yummy! Visit after dark as the lights are beautiful.

Every time I visit brel it's improved . I only get back every year or two from Germany but I always head to brel. The back terrace area now resembles an ibiza beach bar than the west end cramped wee bar it was when I first started going there about 20 years ago

Great place for a few pints and some good food. The outdoor garden is nice. -1 star because they automatically add tips to your bill which is ridiculous.

I've been greeted at the door immediately and was taken to our table. Staff is very friendly, they checked upon us regularly during our meal. The portions are huge - we shared a starter between the two of us but it could have just as well been shared by 4 people. A bit on the pricey side but we had a reasonable bill because we shared (although had no dessert as we were full). We've been seated inside next to the heater - it had to be turned down because it was roasting there. It was dimly lit which was a bit dark for my taste but I think other areas were better.

Nice pub / diner. Relaxed atmosphere and ambiance. Pleasant staff and I enjoyed my meal of Muscles in a lemongrass and mild chilly broth. Prices reasonable. Good near by parking. 1 minute from Hillhead Subway so easily accessible from other parts of the city. Also has covered and no. Covered outdoor area and beer garden.

Called in for a late afternoon drink, after a day touring the West End. It offers a great selection of beers and an interesting beer garden with a "hill" on which you can find seats. It was fairly well booked up, but we found a seat. There was some contradictory information offered about service, and a dedicated smoking area might prevent people leaving their non-smoking tables and standing by other non-smoking guests. Also, it was disappointing that Mr Brel's music was not being played, instead of the mildly irritating tunes heard so often in pubs. However, this is well worth a visit.

A great little beer garden in Glasgow's West End - perfect for enjoying a drink in the sun but also covered areas in case of rain. Good selection of draught and bottled beers and lots of choice otherwise. Very accommodating for walk-ins, though I know they can get extremely busy.

We booked an outside table for desert and had a lovely time. We had s'mores and chocolate fondue, both of which were delicious. The staff were very helpful and friendly and service was excellent. The outside area was heated with comfy cushions and rugs if needed. This is a lovely place to eat.

Visited Brel with friends today. Not an overly friendly welcome. We walked in about 11:50 to be barked at by a member of staff: “WE OPEN AT 12”. We came back 30 mins later and sat in the front space/bar. No member of staff approached us, offered us menus… or acknowledged our presence. After about 15 mins we walked up to the bar. We were advised that there was a seating area out the back. We moved and were served. I opened for a “Kiss on the Hill” cocktail. Recommend it. It wasn’t expensive (£5) but packed a punch. We ordered food fairly quickly, however the service after that was slow. A good 35/40 mins until food appeared. I had the beef tacos with a side of frites. Very delicious, perfect portion size. All in all, 4/5. Service and pace let the side down, but food was very good.

Great social place with full of positive energy and tasty food. Despite the fact that the place was absolutely full with customers, the staff remained friendly and helpful. A must-visit when in Ashton Lane.
