As my title suggests we were rather an unusual party to get somewhere to eat at a lunchtime in the west end of Glasgow. We hadn’t booked anything as we weren’t sure what time we would eat, the server managed to squeeze us into a booth, it was a bit cramped, but assured us she would more us when another was available, she did just as she said she would. The service was excellent and so was the food, everyone had a lovely time. I would definitely recommend, and will be back to sample something else yummy of the menu next time I am in the area. Thank you for your help.

After struggling to find somewhere new and unique for a spot of late lunch. I gave up and decided to go somewhere tried and tested. It’s been a few years since I last frequented this place and it never disappoints. I went for the poached eggs, chick pea and chorizo stew on sourdough toast. Followed by a chocolate cremeux and banana/peanut butter ice cream. Delicious! Great atmosphere and service.

Great interior, super friendly staff, and the food is really tasty. Even though the menu is a selection of cuisine from around the world, it appears and tastes like they nail all the cuisine smack bang on point! Well done!

Stravaigin is an old Scots word that means "to roam or wander about casually or aimlessly, without intent" - I for one am glad to have strolled into this unpretentious culinary haven, even if it was premeditated! Located within the hip West End of Glasgow, this rustic café, bar and restaurant is a firm favourite with locals and foreign visitors alike.

Very fond memories of Stravaigin. The best haggis, neeps, and tatties to be had for miles around. Excellent burgers and mussels as well. Love the ambience the recent expansion is tastefully done and has added character to the place.

Found as a highly rated option on Zomato, I looked forward to some traditional Scottish fare but got that and a bit more. I should have written down the names of the mains, but we had a haggis tatties & neeps with a healthy side of whisky sauce as a starter that warmed my soul through to the end of the week. A blend of Indian and Pakistani flavours peppered the menu giving a lovely selection for upstair bar, or downstairs formal dining experiences. The staff were a delight and the space itself was relaxing and informal. After chatting with another regular patron, it seems like this place is a staple you can always rely on.

Tasty food with a twist in Glasgow. The downstairs space is more refined and better for a date and the upstairs is more pubby and casual. Interesting mix of Scottish food but with an Asian flare.

This is a cosy and unpretentious, yet upmarket restaurant and bar. The menu is filled with interesting dishes consisting of quality local produce, whilst maintaining a strong Scottish flair. Having been here several times, I would confidently recommend Stravaigin for brunch or dinner. This was also the first place I ever tried haggis at - it didn't disappoint.

Always a favourite. Good wholesome food, excellent choice of drinks and warm welcoming staff. "Real" portions of delicious, warming food served with good wine by staff that are so pleasant and friendly they make you feel like you're home. What can you complain about? 5/5

Good food bad service. My friend and I had a very poor experience at the weekend here. This may well be due to the over-stretched waiting staff, who struggled to clear tables, seat customers, collect orders and serve drinks. The consolation was the food. I had Field mushroom, Gorgonzola, spinach & polenta pasticciata which at £12.95 was tasty but seemed a little expensive for what I got. My friend ordered the beer battered fish supper which he said was fab. If they can correct the service I would give an happy 8 out of 10!

The sea bass was perfection – crispy skin and sweet and tender fish. I was most excited to try the Langoustine Ketchup in this dish – the waitress explained how it was made, and I’d never heard of it before. The ketchup was really tangy and strangely wasn’t very fishy, but complimented the taste of the sea bass. The sea shore salad – samphire – was tender and salty; it’s like asparagus in many ways!

For my first time in Scotland I wanted to eat somewhere fairly traditional. After a bit of research I narrowed down to a small list of possibilities and finally decided on Stravaigin. It was the intriguing menu that swung it for me, made up of both traditional Scottish fare as well as several exotic sounding dishes from Africa and Asia.

We both started with pumpkin, butterbean and saffron soup. Soup and portion size were both most hearty and I was delighted to get a slice of butter about 2 inches thick.

The first time I went to Stravaigin in Gibson Street was almost 7 years ago. I was there with Mr S and his family to celebrate his graduation & I remember thinking the menu was so adventurous. I had monkfish with risotto – I can barely remember things from last month but my brain carved out space for remembering that risotto. Recently we were in the West End and decided to pop in for dinner.

Stravaigin is an old Scottish word that means to roam or wander so it seems appropriate for the food that is inspired by different places around the world. They have traditional Scottish dishes such as haggis, neeps & tatties and then they have things from further afield like nasi goreng and frittata.

We had not booked and, as it was a Friday night, it was heaving. We were told it would be about half an hour for a table – the perfect amount of time to enjoy one of their French Martini’s at the bar. Stravaigin is split into three areas. There is the more formal restaurant downstairs, the relaxed upstairs restaurant and the bar. I’ve heard that some of it is also dog friendly for those not wanting to leave the pooch at home.

Only then did we decide on our main feasts. Mr S opted for the seared featherblade and I was excited by the venison special. There seems to be a fashion for using tastier, non-traditional cuts of beef at the moment and Mr S almost always chooses this option. I’ve seen skirt steak and flank steak and I’ve heard of featherblade but this was my first time tasting it. These meats are always served red/pink because they go tough if they are cooked any longer. Mr S really enjoyed it & was also raving about the chunky chips and flatcap mushrooms that accompanied it. Good portion size too. After ordering dishes like this three times now it was rated as second best out of the three. He didn’t like the chimichurri sauce that accompanied it and I’d be inclined to agree. I don’t want an oily sauce to accompany steak and I’ve never been converted to chimichurri. For bread maybe but not steak. When it arrived we tasted the chimichurri then asked our waitress for some whisky sauce instead. Within five minutes we were back on track with a ‘want to lick the dish’ whisky sauce.

My venison haunch was served with carrot purée, rosemary sautéed baby potatoes and jerusalem artichokes and a neep relish. The dish looked good and I like a vegetable crisp on top of a dish for bite. All of the elements of the dish complemented each other well so credit to the chef who designed the dish. The venison haunch was tasty, if slightly more cooked than I would have liked (but I understand that everyone likes venison cooked to varying levels). My only real niggle was that there was a smattering of gravy/jus around the plate but nowhere near enough. The bites I took that had some were greatly improved by those that did not. I shared the whisky sauce (that actually went with the flavourings) but if that had not have been on the table I would not have enjoyed the dish as much.

To end the meal we shared some homemade churned mint chocolate ice-cream with an Anzac cookie. The ice-cream had an amazing flavour and obviously used quality ingredients. I wouldn’t usually have chosen mint chocolate but it was the ice-cream of the day so thought we’d order it & it was a good move. It was quite difficult to eat melting ice-cream on a slightly warm plate instead of a bowl but it just made us eat quicker! We’ll know to ask for a bowl next time.

On another note, I want to mention that they do wine flights for you to enjoy with your meal because I love this idea. I am a slow drinker so a few smaller measures means I can try more.

We had a terrific impromptu meal at Stravaigin and I look forward to roaming back sometime soon.

Probably one of the best places in Glasgow for great local food. A very beautifully made interior of the restaurant puts you in a cozy atmosphere. The service is super friendly and helpful with recommendations. The food itself is just great - delicious, from local ingredients and just an explosion for your taste buds. A reservation is definitely necessary as it is a well-known and good-visited spot in Glasgow.

Great place for a dinner, we seated upstairs which it was quite and perfect for a date with candlelight atmosphere. The menu wasn’t too big so we order 3 small plates and one big plate which was perfect portions for two people. Good pairing of unexpected ingredient but all the dishes tasted very good. I would definitely go back and try other dishes

We had an early dinner and we loved our server, she recommended some amazing local scotland dishes for us to try. We ordered tonns of food and drinks. We were clearly hungry!! Lol The ambience was quite amazing. The crowd was gr8. Ample of sitting space apart from the bar area. Some families with younger kids were even sitting outside. The artifacts and rustic look stole it for me. All the dishes that we ordered were really tasty..we goobled them all. From Haggis to leeks to burgers, we enjoyed them throughly. What a fun place. Must visit if in glassgow.

Everything about our dinner here was perfect. The atmosphere is welcoming and the space is a really neat, rustic/eclectic vibe that feels chic and also totally down to earth. We loved seeing the dogs dining alongside their humans in the bar area! Our server Max was friendly and had great recommendations. Our drinks were super tasty, and every single thing we ordered food wise was just incredible. The veggie haggis with whiskey cream sauce was superb and the leeks confit with whipped tofu were totally unexpected and divine. The panna cotta was the perfect way to finish the meal. Could not recommend this place more, if we were locals we would eat here all the time!

Sunday beef roast was a feast that lacked for nothing in the taste stakes. Starting with haggis might very been too ambitious tho. Won't eat till Wednesday now. Atmosphere was perfect and staff were delightful- worth returning for in its own. Seriously recommended.

The food was incredible. Clearly the chef is top class. Why they aren’t a Michelin starred restaurant is beyond me. Sophie, our waitress was amazing. She gave spot on recommendations, was tons of fun to chat with, and made the entire experience very enjoyable. Looking forward to dining here again!

First time visiting here and won't be the last! Had a cosy little corner upstairs for two. Tried the Sunday Roast which was Beef. Beautiful cut of meat, perfectly cooked in my opinion. Broccoli and cauliflower cheese was lovely, roasties were crisp and flavoursome. Our server, despite being busy was very attentive and friendly. Decor is quirky and prices aren't too bad!

Had dinner here a few days ago after my last visit in 2022, I’m disappointed as they used to be so much better. They get worse with my each visit. 4 star for the service, 0 for food. Staff were super cute and friendly, food was very impressive and absolutely amazing given that they have such a reasonable price.

Great place for food and drinks. Try the haggis - it's perfect. I recommend the dram sauce with it. The staff are extraordinary, atmosphere is cosy and unique. Went there a second time for haggis and Guinness the day after, because everything was on point. Glasgow has many great restaurants and pubs, and this must be one of the best :)

Had a hen night here last night. Fantastic night. Food was delicious, served quickly for 20+ guests. Staff all over the place were friendly and cheerful. Sophie however who was with us most of the night was just brilliant. Couldn't do more for you and a smile on her face. Well done all of you. Thanks for a great night.

Outstanding meal. Party of 8, everyone loved the food, some going as far as saying it was the meal of the year. Only recommendation is for a really elevated dining experience, order the starters and the regular mains, not the Stravaigan staples. The staples are also fantastic, but not the same level of refinement (which is not what it’s trying to be as it is a bar as well). Ultimately you can’t really go wrong though! Service was also impeccable. Extremely knowledgeable, accommodating and friendly staff. Will be returning as soon as possible!

I love this place. But. The foods gone downhill. The chips just aren't edible. My roast beef dinner had the smallest bit of beef ever and wasn't cheap. Both times the staff have been helpful (no charge for inedible chips and another bit of beef cause I asked nice .) But chips ain't hard to do guys and a roast dinner should be a joyful feast. Interestingly my hairdresser was at the next table, she complained about her haggis!! Up your game please! Taste your food.

Stravaigin is a Glasgow West End legend. A really relaxed, quirky atmosphere. Great for just some drinks. Good range of beers. Excellent wines by the glass. Even better by the bottle. And can they do cocktails! Stravaigin is old Scots for wandering with a view to experiencing. The menu reflects this. "Think global, eat local" as it proclaims is just that. Thoughtful dishes borrowing from international kitchens far and wide. Don't miss the curry of the day! It opened in 1994. I've been going regularly ever since.
