There were 8 of us in our group and we all chose from the Pre-Theatre menu. Some had starters and mains, others had a main course with dessert. Everyone was pleased with their choice. Good value, good service.

Foodie Explorers | Glasgow Foodie |Reviews of Glasgow Restaurants and food| Food Blog | Travel Blog. We turned up on a really busy Saturday night but somehow they found room for us upstairs. The wine list has a wide selection at a reasonable price so we ordered a Mont Rocher French Malbec, and it was warming, robust and very easy to drink – we haven’t had a bad Malbec yet!

My favourite restaurant. Been a handful of times, never disappointed. Something on their menu for every taste. I particularly recommend the bang bang chicken starter!!

Red Hot Onion. The wife to be and I ate here on a blustery Tuesday afternoon. Was busier and more spacious than I imagined from the many times I have walked past it without a secong glance.

Welcoming, warm friendly atmosphere and decor and great service. The lunch itself was also excellent, from the set menu, we had starters of goats cheese bruschetta and crunchy and nicely spiced thai fishcakes and sweet chilli sauce.

The main course managed to eclipse the wonderful starters though, a sharp and tasty wild mushroom risotto with pine nuts and a superbly cooked steak frites with peppercorn sauce which was a great compliement with the meat. Will certainly return for a la carte dinner in the future.

We were a party of four, greeted by a very friendly and professional young woman who took our coats and showed us to our booth on the balcony overlooking this beautiful relaxing restaurant which has a open fire. To start I had seared scallops on chorizo, with a nice salad and dressing. then grilled Finnan haddie on mash with a poached egg on top and a very light cheese sauce,"fantastic" Mrs Bunter had roast field mushroom bruschetta with rocket, parmesan and pesto then salmon fishcakes with spinach, peas and lemon and parsley sauce which I knew she enjoyed cause its the only time shes quiet. Jack and his missus loved their food also. With our meal we had a bottle of the house red and finished with coffee. We were all agreed that the Red Onion will be revisited in the near future. Gr8 food Gr8 service Gr8 atmosphere

We ate at this restaurant last weekend for the first time. The food was absolutely brilliant and the chef and staff really tried to ensure that I was fully aware of the food content, I suffer from Coeliac, and I cannot praise them enough. We will be eating there often in the future and will be recommending them to our many friends.

Benefit of the doubt!. I voted 'Yes' that I like Red Onion. However, I'm giving it the benefit of the doubt. My last visit wasn't a great experience. The staffs were inattentive, mains cold (Finnan haddi with champ potatoes) and we were left waiting for long periods between courses. This was a surprise as I have eaten twice here before and was bowled over by the food and service (and price to be honest). I hope this was just a glitch. I shall go back again to see because when it's good it's very good.

This place works on many levels. At times it can feel like a neighbourhood restaurant and at other times a place where you go for special occasions. I've treated it as both and have never been disappointed. The dish of the day is always worth a punt and the fusion eclectic menu is consistently good. One of my favourite Glasgow restaurants

A very cute place. They closed their full menu earlier than their hours indicated. We were able to order from apps and salads. The food was pretty good. It was all cooked well and served prettily. Bathrooms were clean. Service was minimal and mostly forgot us. I couldn't make eye contact with a server to save my life, so it was a pretty thirsty meal for me. Mostly just enjoyed the ambiance. I'd head somewhere else if I was choosing again.

The chef that runs this restaurant has been the personal chef for several celebrities, but comes around to see how things are going and is incredibly personable and generous with his culinary knowledge. We had the Sunday roast which was amazing. As we're the monkfish curry, which is a mix of Indian curry and massaman curry. This was absolutely fantastic. The lemongrass was so incredibly fresh. The scallops were cooked to perfection as well. Dessert was impressive too. Look forward to our next visit. Great place for gluten free meals too.

My family always ends up at red onion for holidays and special occasions as it always delivers and has a great vegan menu for me. Hasn't been updated in some time so I've been through it now. All are pretty good, things like risotto, truffle mac and cheese, burger etc as well as starters like bang bang avocado salad and haggis bon bons. Nice atmosphere and always busy so definitely try to book if you can!

5 stars ? I would give this 500 stars if I could. Faultless dining experience from the early evening menu. Wonderful staff/wonderful food. My culinary experience went like this..(see pics below 👇 Scallops upon a thin warmed slice of chorizo/tomato/aioli/rocket. Steak cooked to perfection(rare in my case) with a nice juicy Cabernet.Frozen raspberries with warm white chocolate sauce and a nice dessert wine from the Loire. Sublime. A double espresso to finish of course. Wonderful and great value. Chef/Patron John Quigley has a restaurant in the heart of the city which deserves a sell out performance every evening just like the lucky stars he used to cook for. (Guns and Roses,Paul McCartney,Bryan Adams ,Tina Turner) among others. Great staff, wonderful gourmet experience. Tina Turner wasn’t daft. This is Simply the Best.

My friend and I were there in April. The receptionist at our hotel recommended this little gem! Every dish was absolutely delicious. I have never had a mushroom soup so delectable in my life! I contemplated ordering another bowl, but was glad I left room for my main. John is so friendly he even gave us some sightseeing pointers and we are glad he did! We have recommended this restaurant to some friends who are visiting in the next week or so.

Simple food, REALLY well done. We had scallops to start and steak frites to follow and both courses were sensational. Tasty, cooked to perfection and perfectly seasoned. The steak sauce was amazing. Service was great, and the atmosphere was relaxed and welcoming. 100% recommend coming here for a meal, you won't be disappointed.

Beautiful restaurant in the heart of Glasgow City Centre. The waiting staff were fantastic, very professional and nothing was too much trouble. The food was beautifully presented and freshly made with good quality ingredients. They have a fixed price lunch menu, an a la carte and even a separate vegan menu (think they also have a gluten free menu). Not the cheapest place to eat, but not wildly expensive either. It was popular when we went on a Tuesday at lunchtime, so probably best to book. I'd say its a good place for a date or formal business lunch. I liked that it was warm and cosy inside.

We ate dinner at the Red Onion on our first night and enjoyed it so much we had lunch there the following day. The food/meals were superb as well as the service staff. Highly recommend dining here for a very moderately priced but superb dinner or lunch!!!

Recommended a pre theatre to friends and we reserved a table for 4pm on a Saturday. The staff are so friendly and pretty much deliver a silver service. We all ordered from the set menu pre theatre option. We had a few soft drinks and a nice bottle of French rose wine. Food was delicious and matched all of the usual standards I have come to expect here. Total bill was £158 for 5 people so roughly £35 per head which included our tip. Highly recommended.

First time diner at the Red Onion. Attentive but unobtrusive service. Superbly conceived and well executed dishes. A nice chat with the chef patron. Excellent and will definitely return.
