This must be the best Greek food in Glasgow, family-run restaurant with authentic Greek dishes beautifully cooked. Friendly staff and great atmosphere. Reasonably priced and pleasant house wine. Definitely one of our favourite places to eat!
I’m also a sucker for an open kitchen and love watching the chefs in Yiamas prepare my food. For me it adds to the cosiness of the place because the division between you and the kitchen is broken down. I have always sat downstairs so I can watch the kitchen but they have an equally spacious upstairs that looks ideal for a large party. Now thoughts are spilling through my head of a large party in Yiamas having a midweek meze (surely I could convince them to do a meze?) – I might need to get on the phone to start arranging.
A little out of the way (tucked in between Buchanan Galleries and bath street) but I'm glad I found this place. It's authentic Greek food and the humans and Pita bread is the best I've ever tasted. If you like meat you'll love this place. I've become a regular, and they also do takeaway.
Yiamas sits just off Buchanan Street so regularly becomes my choice for lunch whilst shopping with friends. You’ll have got it from the title but it’s Greek, with an actual Greek family running it & a real traditional feel to it. I told a friend who’s originally from Greece about this place last year and he said that it is ‘exactly how a Greek taverna should be’. The first time that I went in was because they have a two course lunch menu for £6.95 so I thought I’d try it out but since then I’ve heard several people rave about the takeaway Gyros (£3.50).
Last week when three of us needed a centrally located catch-up, we chose Yiamas for lunch. The coke in here comes in a glass with no accompanying can or bottle but the flavour reminds me of running out to the bakers/sweetie van that went street to street as a child for a bottle of coke – some people are die hard coca-cola fans but it doesn’t bother me & I love the nostalgia.
Once I remembered that I’m not ten anymore our starters arrived. We had hoummus & tzatsiki with pitta but our hunger led to me forgetting to take photos – I knew I should have eaten breakfast. The hoummus was well made and the tzatsiki creamy & fresh. The pitta comes with dried oregano over it, which gives it a wonderful taste. Nevertheless I do miss seeing halloumi on the menu because it is a favourite of mine & I’d love a Glasgow restaurant to do something a bit inventive with it.
I decided to treat myself to the moussaka because I’ve had it in here before & my mouth was watering just thinking about it. It arrived with homemade chips (you can swap the chips for rice) and salad & was as good as I remembered it. Thick layers of mince, potato, aubergine and bechamel…one of my ultimate comfort foods.
The Sougukakia (meatballs with onion, garlic, cumin & tomato salsa) was equally traditional and arrived with the oregano homemade chips.
The third main, chosen from the a la carte menu, was beef souvlaki. It came with a choice of rice or chips and salad. The dip that arrived with it was a tasty accompaniment to this rustic hearty dish. The only thing that could have made it better in my opinion is some flavouring through the rice – herbs, stock or spices would have livened it up a bit.
We didn’t have desserts – it was lunch after all – but it is promising that there is not a dessert menu online because they change them regularly and they are all made in house.

I like Yiamas and find myself veering in their direction regularly for my Greek food intake. It’s not fancy or showy but traditional food, healthy portion sizes and all comes with friendly service.
Amazing, fresh food, great portion sizes, very friendly and speedy service. Well priced too. Went there at about 18.00 on a Thursday after shopping in Glasgow, ordered the souvlaki (plates) and a Greek salad. We asked them to skip the chillies in the salad (some people noted that the food is spicy, so know that you can make these requests). Seriously, couldn't have asked for anything better. Hard recommend!
Popped in for a lunchtime treat. I had a Mixed gyro for £7.95 and a diet coke.
The service was kinda slow and it wasn't that busy.
However I really enjoyed my lunch. Was a substantial gyro and I felt good value for the price. Will be back!
Been here many times to try new flavoured dishes. The simple dishes, like the rustic chips had a salt/herb seasoning that I loved,as did the bread, oil, tomato, feta dish. Could not fault service, and we will be back again to try more dishes.
Great restaurant, great service, outstanding food.
Food was so good, I forgot to take pictures of it all.
Would go back on a daily basis.
The food is delicious. Especially their hummus, it's the best. They have great Vegan options. The service is amazing and their friendly staff went the extra mile. We will definitely be back.
The best gyros in Glasgow! And the best gyros I've had anywhere including Athens! Get the mixed meat gyros, add halloumi and lamb souvlaki with some spicy feta sauce and thank me later
We had a reservation of 10 on Sunday at lunch, which was really well accommodated for and the service was perfect :) Our server was really friendly, helpful and precise with our order! I'm not sure what her name was, but we were served by a girl in a blue t-shirt, at around 1pm?
The food was delicious, and I really like that we can watch how some food is made through a glass screen! The chips and tzatziki were definitely my favourite combo of the whole meal, but my halloumi pita wrap was also very delicious. Everyone else at the table also really enjoyed everything! I didn't hear a single complaint about anything nor have one myself :)
I also ordered a freddo espresso which was perfect and super refreshing! The regular coffee tasted really nice, but I was surprised at the difference in taste between the regular and decaf versions. The regular one was very buttery and smooth, and the decaf one had earthy and bitter notes?
We also brought our own cake which was really well accommodated for. Overall, great service and food! Thank you very much :)
Amazing Greek food in Glasgow. Lots to choose from and everything was great quality. We had the pork souvlaki plate, the meat was delicious and the chips were perfectly seasoned. Lovely Greek salad & pittas too!
Having previously lived in Crete for a year this was a definite blast from the past and wonderfully nostalgic. We will be back!
If you love Gyros you must try here! Would rate a million stars if I could. What an amazing experience at Yiamas. Honestly one of the best gyros if not meals I have eaten in a long time. The quality, taste and flavours were incredible and to match some proper Greek beer! Delicious. I had the hummus and pitta and also the mixed gyro (Chicken and Pork). The waitress who served me was very friendly and polite and I’m very thankful for her attentiveness. I am not local to the area but when I return to the area I will definitely pop in again.
My new favourite Greek restaurant in Glasgow. Not as flashy but the gyros were excellent and most like the ones we had in Crete. The tzatziki was excellent and since we were hungry we added a chicken souvlaki which was big and tasty.
Visited this place as part of a birthday celebration. We came late on the day and they ran out of a few options. We liked everything that we ordered. Overall nice atmosphere, would've been better with the Greek music.
Visited with my Cypriot partner. Very impressed with the food, and the extensive Greek wine available! Very well priced. Would recommend!
Great wee find. Food was amazing, with a great variety something to suit everyone. Atmosphere was good with a nice, comfortable feel. Staff were friendly and service was fast and efficient. Good value for money
Very friendly staff, nice portions and very value for money! Will definitely be back.
My favourite place to eat in Glasgow as the food is delicious, the staff are so friendly and the atmosphere is relaxed. It's a great place for a pre venue gyros before a visit to the concert hall. I cannot recommend this place highly enough and cannot wait to go back.
I absolutely love Greek food and culture and this is definitely the best in Glasgow. Looks small from the outside and didn’t think we would get seated but found out there is also an upstairs that was huge. Gyros amazing but would love to try something different next time I’m there. Girl working upstairs at around 5pm Sunday was lovely and very welcoming.
Today I went to a greek restaurant in Glasgow.
Overall you can't get closer to Greece without travelling there.
We went there during lunch time, because the place is usually bussy. Menu and prices were fine. I ordered a gyros. So did my friend, but it was a chicken plate gyro. Food came quick and I loved every piece of it. I wish the frites could have more taste to them and be more crispy. Also more tzatziki. Portions are also small.
Unfortunately service was not the best. 8/10. Highly recommend going there for a journey to Greece.
