Visiting friends, they booked the night, what a fantastic decision, I loved this restaurant, I love a great Indian meal and this is by far the best I've eaten in this country. Great food, great drinks menu, fantastic service, I will be back as soon as I possibly can.
Came here today for a light, early dinner. Were planning to go to the restaurant which is in a different location, but ended up in the cafe instead as we walked past it o the way. Glad we did, as what we got was a few smaller plates of food to share. Everything was really tasty! Up there with the best curry we have tried. The value for money is amazing and the service is also great!! Will definitely come back next time we are in Glasgow!!
The mother of all curries? A name that gets heralded around as one of the city’s top restaurants (let alone Indian restaurants) in Glasgow is Mother India. The UK does such a good job of producing such smashing curries, in part to its long history of emigration and popularity. This count as one of my favourite curries. Mother India continues a rich tradition delivering outstanding Indian cuisine in a relaxed, but upmarket atmosphere.
First class Indian cuisine. Generous portion sizes. The Dahl was outstanding. Very attentive staff and super fast service. Very nice atmosphere and decor.
A bit far from city center but very good choice for Indiana foods.. I had vegeterian option: Chana Dall: it is made from lentils.. I can not forvet this meal!! Although the Restaurant is small, it has cute design.. Staff is helpful, and service is quick..
After a four hour drive from Forfar through some very dense traffic, our arrival at Mother India in Glasgow’s West End came not a moment too soon. We were, however, rather late for our reservation with half our party nibbling at pakora and holding station. Joining them at a large table in the downstairs dining area, we could then proceed with addressing our collective hunger.
Mother India has been a staple for curry in my family since around 2000. It was my first experience of properly spiced fish and I’m glad to see the spiced haddock is still on the menu! It had been a while since I’d been and Mr Foodie had never been but was eager to find something better than his “just OK” Brick Lane curry.
Top of the leaderboard for me now. Officially the best curry in Glasgow!
Takes Indian cuisine to another level!. Went to Mother India for the first time in many years. Have been a great fan of their sister restaurant Mother India Cafe and eaten there regularly.
What can I say but that the quality of the dishes at Mother India takes Indian cuisine in Glasgow to a higher level. I had the lamb served with an Indian version of pommes dauphinoise - absolutely a taste sensation. My partner had the best version of chicken saag ever. The service was attentive although as we were there for lunch, the restaurant was quiet so the atmosphere was rather quiet.
Definitely recommended!
Awesome curry, one of the best in the west end. What's more, the server could stack more plates on his arm than you've had hot dinners (litterally) and a free drumstick lolly on the way out. Sold.
Mobile review. Absolutely recommended. The only catch is that you will compare it to Mother India's Cafe and against the number 1 Indian in town Mother India comes second. Still not bad to have the two best Indian restaurants in town !
Great food, slightly slow service but there's a good atmosphere so you wouldn't want to be hurried anyway. Definitely recommended.
The best curry and best restaurant in Glasgow. It's been here since 1990 and is still filled to the rafters every night,
Noted for its delicious fish dishes
Fantastic meal .. Went to bar just a block down and although we did not have a booking we stopped past & luck was on our side. There were 4 of us so we had a selection of starters - all excellent. Mains included butter chicken and a vegetarian dish - again excellent. I can honestly say that this rates against my favorite Indian restaurant in Joburg - the food was amazing - make your booking and GO !
This is easily one of the best restaurants in the UK and I try to get here at least three times a year.
The fact you almost always have to book tells its own story. I've also been told by the Indian mother of a former colleague that it's the real deal and a favourite among her peer group.
There are far too many highlights on the menu to whittle it down to one star dish but I always have the smoked haddock and tomato starter.
It comes wrapped in tinfoil and is an absolutely exceptional dish, bursting with flavour, courtesy of the secret spices, and a real delight on the palate. I've never had that dish anywhere else, which makes it even more unique.
As for the mains, beg, bully or bribe a companion (or total stranger) to share the raan for 2 with you.
It's a delicately spiced and slow cooked leg of lamb and when you've tried it once, nothing in your food world will ever seem the same again.
I once shared this dish with the new fiancée of a long-time friend when a group of 10 of us dined at Mother India.
A matter of days later she broke off the engagement but I still believe that if the then-happy couple had ordered the raan for 2, instead of her and me, they'd still be together. That's how good it is.
Fabulous dining room we were seated downstairs. Best Indian food I've ever had. Fish pakora was fresh and light followed by sea bass with chickpea and potato. Staff friendly and efficient. Highly recommend.
Had a lovely meal here before attending a show at the hydro. The food was delicious and the service was very efficient. My only slight criticism is that staff are a little overbearing as we were asked 3 times in the space of a minute if we were enjoying our meal which I find quite off putting. I would definitely visit again though. I would recommend booking in advance as it is small restaurant and filled up pretty quickly.
We had a great dining experience here. Food was excellent and the staff are friendly and helpful. The young lady who served also had a great sense of humour!
We will definitely be back.
The food was out of this world! I got the butter chicken which was so delicious! Staff was attentive and quick. The restaurant was dark and cozy! The only problem was my stomach wasn’t big enough to fit all the amazing food in! Must stop in Glasgow!
We were here before the pandemic, and from what I've heard it is your mainly saying.
When I asked manager about one of my favorite Indian dishes, they were able to accommodate me, even though it wasn't on the menu.
I really recommend this place. The atmosphere, the food, the service we're all outstanding
When we visit Glasgow again in the near future, we will be dining here with friends we're bringing with us.
Probably one of the best tasting Indian dishes I have had for some time. The depth of flavours was awesome. Not the usual menu with a huge selection of choices of curry choices. In my opinion that is a good thing, just don't expect, a 'chicken balti' on there as it is not that kind of experience.
Book well ahead.
We were staying on the right side of Glasgow and managed to get a booking so very happy to get a table.
We came here on recommendation so we're looking forward to what it had to offer.
We were shown to a table downstairs, it's quite a small area with dark wood panelling and beautiful windows
The menu is different to your average Indian restaurant so be prepared to try something a little different to the norm
We had the curry, pilau rice and a chicken Tikka, poppadoms to start and a Peshwari naan.
The food was really good, so tasty and excellent portion size.... The naan bread was like a pillow, soft, squishy and absolutely gorgeous... I was so full but couldn't stop eating it!!
I realised they had an upstairs so popped up to take a look.... A completely different feel up there... Buzzing, loud, busy a contrast to downstairs
The building itself is beautiful as well.... Staff very attentive and loved chatting to the owner who is clearly passionate about what he does... We had the best night x
We had done some research before the visit to Glasgow on which Indian to visit - this place didn’t disappoint!
- The building was great with heaps of character
- the whole team were so knowledgeable and passionate about the food and how it’s cooked
I had the garlic chilli chicken, mushroom rice and popadoms. Just incredible flavours, nice amount of spice and very generous in the size of the dish.
Fantastic last minute choice for dinner this evening. Would highly recommend for anyone looking for somewhere new to try. Visited with my daughter and the service couldn't have been any better. They also ran through a choice of off menu dishes in case we fancied something else that wasn't listed. Will definitely be back again.
Enjoyed a great evening at Mother India on Friday with family. Really authentic quality food, lovely restaurant setting with great service from very helpful and friendly servers.
We shared starters of a Ginger, Crab and Prawn Dosa and a portion of Veg Pakora - both were delicious and served with delicious and interesting garnishes - we loved the beetroot slaw.
Delhi Style lamb was slow cooked with peppers and onions and was really tender, the Butter Chicken was rich and indulgent and the Chicken Tikka was well spiced and all were really generous portions.
It was our first visit but we'll definitely be back.
