Off chance discovery
Someone suggested this to us the night before and we were not disappointed. Fantastic burger, a perfectly cooked steak and friendly staff.
Have eaten here 3 times... There is love in this cooking...the pulled pork literally dissolved in my mouth! The craft beer menu is cool and the staff are really knowledgable about all the drinks!
A classic combination executed well. The steak itself was succulent and tasty and the accompanying onions and horseradish mustard mayo offered sweetness and a little heat. Winner.
I didn’t avail myself of their core meaty items, like their burgers, sliders, or steak, but I still got a fair measure of the place. I found it quite stylish and refined, and they even seemed to cater fairly decently for vegetarians
This is a seriously hidden spot in Glasgow and can quite easily be missed. Located in a basement on Bath street, this restaurant has satisfied my carnivore meat instincts every time !! The first time I went here on a date and when the food came, I simply forgot the girl - not the best ending, but I found myself an amazing meat joint.
The whole restaurant revolves around meat - from the cocktails to starters into he main course and finally the dessert. I invariably end up having the grinder (burger) - that is perhaps the single best dish of meat and bun and i've not had any complaints about it till date. Friends have tried the sliders, other burgers, sides, etc but I tend to stick with the "grinder". Its simply meat heaven in my book.
But, I would suggest a try of the meat-tails and they give a unique drink expense of meat concocted with alcohol. And more importantly have an open mind, you just might enjoy it so much more than a regular drink !!
As for the desserts, I stuck to the regular cheesecake, but a friend who tried the bone marrow dessert offered me a try - so maybe the next time !!!
As I’ve said previously, the first time I visit a restaurant I am always full of hope – I want to enjoy it, have a new favourite and I’m willing them on to deliver the goods. On my second visit I am crossing my fingers that it wasn’t just a one-off and that I’m as happy as I was the last time that I left. I suppose it’s a bit like looking for a house though because the first viewing is all excitement and the second one is still excitement but also about practicality & checking other things.
With that said, last month Mr S & I returned to Meat Bar one rainy night after work because we had been hankering after the French Dip ever since. We snagged a booth again so we were off to a comfy start.
This time we also opted for starters as they all sounded as good as the main courses. We had the pit-smoked bourbon chicken wings with BBQ sauce and the crispy pig’s cheeks with piccalilli style veg. The chicken wings were – dare I say it – perfect chicken wings. They were meaty and tasty and the sauce had a lovely BBQ tang – definitely one that we would order again.
When I was choosing my starter I asked about the pig’s cheek and he described it to me as little cakes so I knew what to expect but I think the menu could do with some clarification on this. I thought the starter was nice but it just did not really do it for me. There wasn’t a lack of flavour or anything – I just was not crazy about the dish. I think I would have preferred the meat to take centre stage but the spices and piccalilli veg took over on the taste scale.
This time for main course we sampled the classic beef grinder burger (£7 + £1 for cheese) and the french dip smokehouse sandwich (£9). The french dip sandwich was as it was the first time – tender brisket beef with those onions – just delicious. I like that the bone marrow gravy comes on the side so that I can add as much or as little as I want. The only downside was that last time I am sure that the bun was toasted but this time it didn’t appear to be and it did affect the taste slightly as the bun couldn’t quite hold its own. Next time I will just make sure I ask for it to be toasted because I’m not sure if it is meant to be or not. The house slaw was as refreshing as last time and I’m glad that they serve it with this.
I completely agree with James VS Burger that the classic beef grinder burger is a tasty patty indeed. We both thought that it was full of flavour and the gooey cheese (add on £1) was delicious in it. Next time I think we’d go the whole hog (no pun intended) and add the pulled pork too for an add on at £2. Another menu item that I would be happy to recommend to people and will order again.
We chose the same sides as last time – the triple cooked fries & the dry rub crispy onion rings. The fries were crunchy on the outside & soft on the inside – excellent. The onion rings were not as good as last time but still nice. They were more in bits this time but last time they were big rings so I felt there was more crunch and outside rub than there was onion.
We were incredibly full again after our main courses so went without dessert. I had meant to try one of the meaty cocktails this time but decided against it on a school night.
So after our second visit we were full, happy and looking forward to our third. There were a few niggles – when isn’t there – but nothing even remotely big enough to put me off going again. One day I will try a meaty cocktail, one day.
I’d had a rather hectic flurry of late-morning activity, today, meaning that it was gone 1:30pm before I had a chance to contemplate lunch. Fortunately, I’d spotted a likely looking place on my walk from the train station to our Glasgow office, having circuitously walked past Meat Bar, on West Regent Street.
Their stylish basement setting is a little like Shebeen, in Edinburgh, as both are seeking to emulate the classic steakhouse feel. Meat Bar is slightly more spacious, with a blend of high seats, tables and booths. I sat near the window, at a high table.
Service was quick, friendly and efficient, throughout. I’d spotted my likely main course on their daily offers board outside, which made mention of a manchego-topped pulled pork roll. I started with their corn chowder, to which I added bacon bits on top, following a steer from the waiter.
y soup was soon with my, in voluminous supply. It was a meal in itself. It proved to be very tasty indeed, with lovely creaminess from the corn, nice added crispyness from the bacon, and a warmingly wholesome overall feel.
The pulled pork sandwich was very good, too. The structural integrity of the roll did not quite hold, but this was because the pork was just so moist and juicy. While the pork was packed with flavour, the accompanying cheese didn’t really hold up, and it could have used a crunch element on the roll.
I think Bespoke BBQ’s version still wins for me, not least because they have all of the elements of their sandwich working together harmoniously.
So overall, I was impressed with the Meat Bar. I didn’t avail myself of their core meaty items, like their burgers, sliders, or steak, but I still got a fair measure of the place. I found it quite stylish and refined, and they even seemed to cater fairly decently for vegetarians, which was a nice surprise. I’d happily go back, next time I’m in town, and would be happy to recommend you pay them a visit.

Food was absolutely perfection, had the best steak we have had in YEARS! Very accommodating, friendly and fun staff. The cocktails were beyond!! High quality food and service with great prices! Highly recommend!!
All about the meat. Choice of cuts available cooked however you like it.
Fries, sweet potato fries, onion rings, mushrooms, mash. Lots to choose from.
Steak was perfectly cooked. Will come here again and would recommend for steak lovers. 😋😋
Went with my fiancée on 19th October to start off my Birthday weekend. Amazing stakes and easily the best service I have had in a restaurant in years, if not ever!
Absolutely loved everything about this restaurant. The food was excellent by far the best steaks we have had. All the dishes were delicious and portions were share friendly. Cocktail was divine and staff were marvellous. A great meal and a great evening out.
Perfectly cooked juicy and tender steaks. Delicious even without the sauce. I forgot to ask for salt and pepper because I couldn’t stop eating :3 The sides were quite oily and heavy, but the green leaves, tomato, and mushroom were a good companion to the beef.
Service was very friendly.
Strong 4.5 ⭐️
Great quality steak cooked to your liking. Variety of different cuts with reasonable prices. Delicious thick fries and, for me best invention, deep fried jalapeños (must try!)
Nice neighborhood vibes, relaxed and friendly. Great seating for small groups, dates and singles. Cool bar vibes, staff is approachable and very helpful.
Small touches to improve overall experience:
1. Quality of ice for cocktails, my Negroni looked bit sloppy (delicious tho)
2. Would be nice if wine was poured at the table
Definitely come here when in Town! 🏴
Came here again and got the steak special. This time it was 300g ribeye with peppercorn sauce, salad, onion rings and garlic and rosemary sauted potatoes for £36 each. Food was perfectly cooked. The service could not have been better. We had the friendliest server called Kelly. I can't recommend this place enough. My fiance and I just love it.
Very good steak. Relaxed casual atmosphere which was nice. Good explanation of the menu by the friendly staff. Overall, a very nice expericence. Would recommend
I was visiting Glasgow and asked my hotel to recommend a great steak place. Boy did they deliver! The Meat Bar was absolutely incredible. Great atmosphere. The staff were super friendly and the food was to die for. I was in town for a few days, and had originally intended to try a new restaurant each day. But I loved the steak here so much, I ended up eating here every day.
Would completely recommend!
