After finding this restaurant due to small concealed entrance on this bustling busy street we were not disappointed to say the least.
On entering the restaurant at the top of the staircase we were pleasantly surprised as it opens up into a large atmospheric area that the aromas were circling around our heads.
The young waiter who attended to us was excellent in many ways and we weren’t disappointed that the vast array of food that was available to us
Once we had chosen the delicious food started to arrive and we certainly were not going to be disappointed.
Once we polished of our food and drinks we sat and chatted and weren’t rushed in any way to exit our table so don’t hesitate to go along and experience this lovely restaurant snmaci bang in the merchant area of Glasgow you’ll enjoy the experience
Dakhin is an Indian cuisine restaurant in merchant city Glasgow, they had wide varieties of south indian food tried their dosa and idli and their taste was flavour of south kheer served by them is soo delicious and sweetlicious. One must try their if they are searching for south Indian food
Authentic Indian food served with love. Amazing taste and must try rice kheer... dosa were as similar to what you get in india. Nice to hangout in evenings but check the closing timings as most of the restaurants closes early in Glasgow
Good south Indian food. We ordered set menu and it had decent options. I chose spicy food as my palate accepts that and to be honest I didnt expect that much heat in it, so loved it. Dosa, Utthapam, curd rice etc as a side was really good. Quantity of main bus good but side was a little less. Ambiance was good. It was a little pricy may be because of the overall package.
Adding one pic taken by one of my colleagues.
There's never any harm in trying new food. OK that's not strictly true. If you have a shellfish allergy, don't try Langoustines thinking they aren't just a big prawn. . But generally experiencing new food is great, we love to check out different approaches to old classics, or discovering unpronounceable dishes from far flung, foreign countries, like Koornish Paztee. When Barney said we were off for a curry I had visions of Chicken Tikka Saag and a Keema Naan. But, No. Barney said “I don't do cooncil curry” (which is just the sort of shocking pretentiousness I have to put up with from him) and insisted we were going somewhere a bit different.
Visited Dakhin on a Sunday evening after reading through all the great reviews this place has garnered.. the place was quite empty , so no issues in getting a table..
Very disappointed with Vada and coconut chutney..The Vada was not fresh (microwaved/reheated?) and the chutney seem to have been served straight out of refrigerator
Anyways, the disappointment ends there (thankfully!)Sambar was excellent.. piping hot and very flavorful..so were my appam and chicken stew..the staff/service was quite excellent as well.
Gluten-free tasty food in the Merchant city. Well-located on Candleriggs but easy to miss due to its upstairs location is the amazing South Indian restaurant Dakhin, sister restaurant to Dhabba on the same street. How it took so long for us to come here I don’t know. They are listed in the UK Michelin Guide as simple standard food. Once you find your way in (it’s directly above Bar 91) it’s straightforward.
Why has it taken me so long to come here? It doesn't look much from the outside however inside is the most delicious and fragrant food. Light flavours none of this swamped with the same standard sauce stuff. All gluten free as well.
Dakhin's food is really delicious, definitely my favourite Indian restaurant!
It's not your typical Glasgow Indian restaurant - the menu is Southern Indian cuisine. This means no naan bread but definitely try the dosa!
The lamb and prawn starters are my two favourites!
The flame grilled lamb and chicken are cooked perfectly, and great along with their coconut rice, poondu spicy sauce and nilgiri cool coconut sauce. Amazing! Not always a massive fan of hot food but with one of their mango lassi's this is the perfect combination!
A life spent avoiding gluten often ends up defaulting to curry when eating out, as it's usually safe. Which is not to say I'm a massive connoisseur of the cuisine, but I've certainly had a lot of the stuff. This was AMAZING.
The whole menu is gluten free (and celery, lupin, nut, sulphur dioxide, mollusc and soya free SAY WHAAAT?) and about half of it it vegetarian. That's impressive for a start. My gluten-happy dinner companion was disappointed by the lack of naan until his food arrived and then he couldn't stop shovelling the food into his mouth. Having never encountered the breads on offer, Sada Dosa was a whole new world of excitement and oral delight.
It seems that South Indian cuisine is a little different to what we think of as 'curry'. There was no slick of oil on the food, and we were excited by the layers of subtle flavours in the dishes. Starters and mains were delicious and moreish, with none of the too-common slabs of half cooked vegetables to bulk up the meat dishes.
My only complaint it that it's in Glasgow, but it was so good that I'd be tempted to make a trip specially.
Tasty!!. Another great curry in Dakhin. best curry in scotland by a long way!!
Amazing!! Fantastic authentic food and great service! Def going back!!
Another great meal from Dakhin. The pre-theatre offer is good value. Try the paper dosa for something a bit different.
South indain treat!. Had a really great night, food was immense totally diffrent from any indain i have had before. The swordfish starter was mouth watering, the lamb dosa was amazing, presentation awesome with the samber (soup)so flavoursome, due to the open kicthen you can see the chefs at work, the making of the dosa is really something to see, waiters were very helpfull with recomendations cant wait to go back again.
Very tasty food, helpful staff and quick service
This was our first time here tonight, we thought we would give it a go due to the fact they are 100 per cent gluten-free. They didn't disappoint. My partner and I loved the food. It was so delicious, full of flavour. Service was quick and all the staff were friendly. I can't wait to come back and try some more dishes.
Great place in Glasgow. Quick service courteous staff, Amazing food. Little bit highly priced. We ordered masala dosa, chicken Briyani and paneer/ cottage cheese dosa. All dishes were up to the mark, will recommend to people havjng decent South indian cravings.
Wonderful food, wonderful service. Really fantastic variety of dishes. We had a table for 12 including 5 children and everyone had a great time. The staff are very helpful and courteous and they obviously take immense pride in making and serving the very best food.

Fantastic south indian! Watch-out for the spices!
First time here and I was a little intimidated reading some bad reviews. I ordered the Chettinad chicken and appams. Man, it was fantastic! Totally worth a visit!
I loved the food, it was delicious. First time I ate something really authentic South Indian food in Glasgow. Price is little higher but compared to quality it’s worth it.
Enjoyed a delicious meal here on a Tuesday night, taking advantage of their 10% student discount.
Wasn't familiar with any of the dishes (not your average Indian takeaway) but I had a prawn curry with Coconut rice which was amazing.
Best Indian restaurant in the UK!
I have had many Indians in cities including London, Birmingham, Manchester, Leeds, Edinburgh, Sheffield, Newcastle, and many more but this is my favourite. The spices and flavour were the very best, and the location + interior were amazing. I must admit I came in after the busy hour, so they were not super busy, but it was exceptional in every way. Highly recommend.
I and my friends recently visited this restaurant in Glasgow. One of the best ambience I have seen in Uk. Coming to food, you can find authentic Indian taste and it’s definitely worth for what you pay. Staff are very friendly, and thanks to chef Anil who personally recommended paneer Dosa and mango lassi which were too good than expected. I have tried chicken biryani and veg biryani which reminded me of Hyderabad biryani. Going to come back for sure and people who are in or going to visit Glasgow…. you must definitely try food from Dakhin. All the best entire team and thanks for hosting us.
Interesting idea of having a tasting package in which you get to try various dishes. Really good for a group of 4-5. Service is fast and friendly and portion sizes are average. Likely great for a family outing. Definitely not cheap but also not overly expensive.

Great food, staff are friendly and good location. The selection of tester menus is fantastic.
The restaurant is nut and gluten free. They have a selection of Dosas (the big crispy pancake). Will be back again.
Awesome place and so is the food, good service and the most important part for me, 100% gluten free, well except for some of the alcoholic drinks that is. It is just so wonderful to visit a place and not have to ask a load of questions about how they cook things. If you are coeliac this is a must visit place when visiting Glasgow. Plus their Dosas are to die for.
Love this place
I love the staff here. They are always ready and willing to answer any questions and will do their best to make you happy. The food is delicious, fresh, and packed full of flavour. The Dosa is a sight to behold .
I love Indian food and living in Manchester, we're blessed with a fantastic array of Indian restaurants... and I may not be allowed back home when I report that I may have just eaten the best South Indian food I've ever tasted. Dakhin in Glasgow - Mancunians: it's worth a trip up the West Coast. Glaswegians: you're so lucky. The batata bonda for starters were gorgeous and the vegetable biryani was delicious especially coming with my requested spicy rather than mild sauce. It may be some time before I can move again. The tasting menus look amazing - but if I want to walk back to the hotel, it's a good thing I resisted temptation. Beautiful and simply decorated restaurant employing friendly staff.
A real gem if you love Indian food. Nothing like the usual and tops any Indian I’ve ever been to. Staff were spot on with service. In a great spot in Glasgow too. Nice big windows with second floor views. The menu offers a great range and I wish I could have tried more. Would definitely recommend and can’t wait to go back.
I was recommended this restaurant and it was absolutely delicious. I had a vegan curry with rice accompanied with a thin crispy crepe, perfectly cooked. Portion sizes are large, many options for all dietary requirements and the staff are wonderful.
Coeliac friendly. Whole menu is gluten free.
My partner and I had our date night here tonight and since she was diagnosed with coeliac it’s been really hard for her to look forward to a meal out. But for the first time in a long time I seen her face light up at food, and the food was absolutely amazing. We’ve never had South Indian cuisine but are definitely considering becoming regulars.
Oh a large menu, no fear after you talk to the staff..... 1st class service but go for the DOSA! Simply amazing! Blew my mind tbh!
Whether you are gluten free or not - this is hands down the BEST Indian restaurant I’ve ever been to in my life!
Everything on the menu is gluten free to the extent that they are @coeliacuk approved!
The food was OUTSTANDING - I had my first Dosa and my husband’s prawn curry was just 🤯outrageously good! The chutneys with the poppadoms are not like anything I’ve had before / I have had my fair share of Indian curries’
Highly recommend this place if you are ever in Scotland - make your way to the Merchant Quarter to Dakhin in Glasgow - the charming staff will win you over instantly.
Loads of good veggie options too.

Dietary intolerance friendly. I have a fructan and lactose intolerance and the restaurant phoned me in advance to ensure they knew what the issues were and could prepare a delicious meal. The food was lovely and service is always amazing. I appreciate the effort the kitchen team go to ensure I can enjoy a delicious meal despite my extensive restrictions. Thank you 😊
