Cosy and at the same time elegant. Funny menu with some variety of dishes. We chose the sirloin and the fish and chips. Both very well served, like you can see per photos. Delicious desserts!
Great dinner, great atmosphere
Very cozy. Warm atmosphere. Good comfort food Scotland style. Huge portions, very large alcohol selection, live music. Loved it. Local favorite. Go get some great food!
The butterfly and the pig is an nyc restaurant and fabulous place, the staff was very helping and friendly worth for the money, the ambience of this place is wonderful
This place is fabulous. The staff were possibly the most friendly, sincere staff Iāve ever met. They were helpful to a fault and utterly unpretentious. Just read the menu to see how it doesnāt take itself too seriously. The dining room is somewhat quirkily designed and a delight to be in. The food itself was fine - not brilliant but satisfying, well-priced and with a good range of options. Say yes to The Butterfly & The Pig every time.
One of the known places in Glasgow!! We sat in the tea rooms upstairs for a quick dinner and some cake.
Letās start with dinner. There was a limited variety of dishes. As they close the tea rooms at 8 we had to be quick. I went with the fish and chips while others went with the frittata and salmon dish. For the fish and chips, it was huge!! Can be shared by two person. It was average overall and deeply fried. I liked the chips though. My friends said the other dishes were okay.
The highlight was the cakes. We tried both the triple chocolate and the banana and caramel. They are amazingg!!!! A must try if you are in glasgow. They are also big portions so try sharing.
Recommended for the cakes!!
Amazing restaurant and even more amazing food, would highly recommend. My personal favourite is their Cilla Black salad and I would also recommend the tea rooms upstairs during the day or for a function!
How cool is this place. Eclectic collection of discombobulated fine porcelain items - deliberately mismatched, this bohemian presentation of high tea is such a breath of fresh air. The staff are super efficient, the space is tres funky, the tables and chairs, the large mirrors, the airy Windows. It all works. Very well.
Full afternoon tea the only way to go. The 2 x tri-plates arrive with a host of different yumminess. The sandwiches are all delightfully different. The cakes all super fresh, the slices all like grandma made. Nothing shop bought here, all exceptional, made in house.
And a glass of prosecco makes the world a happy place.
It was our daughter's 4th birthday, and the addition of a candle was very cool. She loved it.
This place is fab and I've been here many, many times. It's regular venue from early evening to early morning for myself and colleagues from the charity I work for.
Not only is the atmosphere fantastic, but there is an excellent variety of drinks to suit all tastes and the food is of excellent quality.
I have been various times but most often on a Friday evening. Come 10pm there is always an excellent live band which always gets people up dancing, but the music is not obtrusive and if you're there to chat the music makes an excellent background mood.
What makes this venue fall down is the food side of things. Although tasty, the menu is written in a very "creative" way which makes it very difficult to read. It might be novel but it is not practical.
Secondly, at peak times the wait for food is going to be a very long time - but the updates from staff are not clear. You might be told to come back to order in 45mins, only then be told to come back in another 30mins. It's recommended to phone ahead, or order early on in the evening before the restaurant side gets busy.
All in all this is an excellent venue and I would recommend it.
This place is amazing. The food is always to an incredibly high standard and the atmosphere is perfect. Excellent selection of drinks.Super friendly staff & great atmosphere for amazing food!
Whenever my wife and I decide to go out for dinner we always try to find new trendy places with good food and service, but find ourselves coming back here time and time again, because with new places is always a risk that the food or service won't be up to expectations - but at this amazing place I am wowed every time..Nice restaurant ..
Nice food and so good atmosphere.Such a lovely welcome compliments to the chef the food was amazing and the staff were very friendly the service was great would highly recommend and will be returning thank you to you all ..

Really enjoyed this. Great food for a great price. Starter (black pudding - excellent!), fish cakes (more than I could finish - but very tasty), and dessert (sticky toffee cake) for less than 22.Ā
Service was friendly but slow, but I was there in mid-afternoon and the whole place was slow and I think there was only one person for the whole room. By the time I left, 2 more servers had come in and the place was filling up.
Www.ohmacod.com - My Fish & Chips Blog. The Butterfly & The Pig is very kitsch and cosy. It is like a traditional country pub yet in a basement on Bath St, Glasgow (It is also the basement of The Buff Club.) The tables themselves remind me of my grandparents decor with cute tablecloths and mismatching crockery. Food is accompanied by a sound montage of (often live!) music and a lively crowd munching and drinking.
On the menu the Fish and Chips are described as:
āTittys traditional fish and chips, battered to death haddock with mushy peas (all veggies beware they have nasty ham through the peees) and a slice of lemon
9pounds 60penceā
I HAVE ORDERED THESE THREE TIMES SO IāM JUST GOING TO DESCRIBE THE FIRST TIME I ATE THEM.
When they arrived I gasped at the SIZE of the FISH (I swear it was glowing too) and the PERFECTION of the CHIPS. The chips were the perfect traditional chunky chips size. The mushy peas looked BEAUTIFUL with the ham making my tummy rumble. It is the ham in the peas with separates these Fish & Chips from the rest. The peas are also not too mushy; just the right amount of lumps (SMOOTH PEAS - a huge mistake.)
I got to work putting ketchup and tartare sauce on the side before mixing all the different delicacies making up my colourful plate of heaven and putting it in my mouth. I could also eat each aspect alone - grab a chip and swirl it in some ketchup and tartare sauce, cut a wee bit of batter (perfect thickness) off the fish, mix the tartare sauce and peasā¦
AMAZING. TRADITIONAL. CLASSIC.
The fish cake is excellent. More a hot pan of mashed potato with all listed ingredients that a typical fish cake. Nice casual ambience.
Gluten Free friendly. I was so delighted when I found out that the Butterfly and Pig does proper GF fish and chips (they use GF flour and cider to make the batter). Tastes delicious and there are a few other good GF options on the menu and the waitress offered to make other things GF should I have wished.
Service can be a bit slow, but the food is excellent.
I'm very surprised that this place hasn't received at least one review, judging by the fact it's always buzzing and usually a godsend if you get in: It's fantastic! An incredibly friendly and inviting quaint place.
Their menu is changed daily and usually consists of many hearty, rustic Scottish foods, although the cod usually remains unscathed on the menu every time because it's so damn tasty! The fish and chips come served with the best mushy peas I've had, and all wrapped in newspaper on plate.
The interior is very quirky and home-like and anybody who likes this should check out their other venues 'The Tea Rooms' above and 'Buff Club' behind.
From the first spoonful, I knew that I was dealing with something rather special
My fish and chips was splendid, crispy batter, minimal bones - what more could you want?
Really nice food. Pricing for drinks was a bit exorbitant but the great service made up for the cost for sure.
They were even so kind as to make our afternoon tea vegetarian friendly at absolutely no notice because I was an idiot and forgot that I was bringing my vegetarian friend with me. š¤¦š¼āāļøš
Lovely selection of nibbles within the afternoon tea and great value for what you get.
The soup was also amazing. š„°
Would definitely come again and want to try their restaurant next time!
Quantities of food. The soup was really good. We got the leaks and the bacon did not see any bacon. Did not see leaks but the bread they gave us to put in it. I dunked it and that was a really good combination. The staff was really nice, courteous and a good answer. All of our questions that we didn't question them about where the leaks of bacon were.
Visited on a Saturday afternoon/evening and luckily found an empty table for 2 (it was quite crowded with reservations).
Ordered Haggis Fritters, Olives & Bread, Sweet Potato & Chili soup, Pea Rissoto, and Steak Pie - everything was very tasty and decently priced.
Also enjoyed some Scotch, a Scotch Old Fashioned (wasn't my favorite), and a Peach Mule.
Service was so friendly, and atmosphere was wonderful. Would recommend for a big or small group - make reservations in advance if you can.
Fantastic place, I ate a vegan and gluten-free Scottish breakfast, because I am allergic to eggs and gluten. The black and super good coffee I recommend it. the staff is super sweet And professional, If you go to Glasgow try this tea room
Bed & pillows were so comfortable. Staff were friendly & accommodated an early check in without issue. The shower was amazing! The toiletries were fantastic as well. Really enjoyed staying at this location & walked everywhere from here.
The butterfly and the pig was an unexpected gem in downtown Glasgow for two weary travellers from overseas.
We were greeted with friendly staff, a huge space complete with plush couches, booths, or tables. The music was a mix of classic jazz, funk, and disco from the best eras and I was delighted at the amount of different theme days, high teas, and fun this place puts on either solo or by collaborating with other places nearby.
The food is delicious and I highly recommend the raspberry and mango cider!
Definitely recommend this place. It's a cozy and beautiful restaurant. I loved the interior design and every small detail around the place.
We tried traditional fish and chips, scotish steak pie, and sticky toffee pudding. All were delicious.
The service was great, and the staff were friendly.
We arrived early so had a drink at the bar whilst we waited and it was a great atmosphere. They came to get us when our table was ready.
Starters were delicious. Haggis fritters were so lightly battered and tasty.
I ordered the gammon steak but changed the accompaniments but that was no trouble for them. The steak was delicious.
Mrs had steak pie and the lumps of meat were beautifully cooked.
We left suitably stuffed.
Outstanding food. Steak perfectly cooked and beyond the standard expected. Big portions aswell.
Dinner with husband on a Saturday night. A popular shabby chic bar and restaurant. Great service and atmosphere and the food was plentiful and delicious. A great location to catch up with friends or celebrate with family. Considering the current cost of living reasonably priced. Ā£25 each for a two course meal. Worth every penny. Looking forward to the next visit.
Excellent gastro pub experience with some of the best pub food Iāve ever had for a very affordable price! All the ingredients and sauces are excellently paired with each other!
The pork belly starter was excellent. Crispy and sweet because of its glazing and the dressing on the small accompanying salad.
My colleague had the Butterfly and the Pig Burger with a gluten-free bun and really enjoyed it.
Luckily we walked in on Sunday, meaning thereās the Sunday roast special! The ribeye just sold out sadly, but the sirloin was also amazing!
Also had a side of the awesome crunchy fried haggis balls. As a Dutchman these remind me of most gourmet ābitterballsā from home, so getting a side of mustard worked perfectly with these!
We are stuffed, but it wonāt hurt to have a look at their desert menu would it?
Definitely coming back here!
Wish they had some older whiskies available, but the Dalmore 18 kept me happy and was perfectly paired with my meal :).
Update one year later (Nov 1st 2023):
Came back, not on a Sunday this time. Started with sharing the haggis fritters, which were super fluffy and tasty paired perfectly with a peppercorn sauce. As a main, I had the seasonal Gammon steak while my friend took the chicken burger with a gluten free bun. Everything was excellent. The fries were cooked to perfection, the portions were almost too much for us and the staff was super helpful as always!
Make sure to also check their website for their calendar of various events!
Atmosphere and decor gave a relaxing feel with couches. Like how they have sectioned off an area to eat with family and another area set up more like a relaxed bar. Wished I had more food but wasn't feeling well that day, but they had homemade soup, and I had tea.
Sometimes you wander into a place because the name is whimsical and reminds you of the (very) old days, and sometimes those places end up being your favorite restaurant for your entire visit. So it is with the butterfly and the pig (BaP). A bit tucked away, it can be easy to walk right by, but BaP should make anyone's itinerary for restaurants in Glasgow. The meat pie and salmon were absolute perfection, and the drinks were as delightful as the friendly and engaging staff. After eating out for the next 10 days, always a different location, BaP won out with it's amazing food, exquisite charms, and fun atmosphere!
Very fun and cozy spot for dinner and lounging! The establishment has two sides, the restaurant and the bar. The bar area has nice and comfy couches, so it is a great spot to bring friends. I dined alone tonight, so I sat in the restaurant by a window. The table actually had a real candle on it, which I thought was a refreshing break from other places that have the candle shaped LEDs.
I ate their sirloin for dinner. It is actually a really thick sirloin, so make sure you are hungry when you order this. It was cooked perfectly and the taste was great. The sauce that it came with was what really made it so good. The fries and tomato were nice, nothing really unique about them. The main show is the sirloin in this dish, which was what I was most interested in, and as stated it was fantastic.
The service is here is quick and they take care of their customers well. I will be back here before I leave Glasgow!
Not fine dining, but definitely good dining. The meat pie was good and they made me a special request non- alcoholic drink, no problem. Well priced, (approx Ā£ 58 for dinner and drinks for three), good and very friendly service. Dog friendly. They had an open mike night when I was there.
The Butterfly and the Pig is an excellent restaurant! The atmosphere is great, very cozy. The staff are friendly and helpful. The food is amazing! Portions are large, could easily split a meal.
We loved it so much we visited the tea room for breakfast the next day!
We will definitely plan to eat there the next time we are in Glasgow.
The meat pie was fantastic. Sat in the upper room with a large group and had two staff members working with 17 people. They were friendly and quick. Offered excellent recommendations. I also had the toffee desert which was wonderful. Enjoyed a Long Island iced tea that was made to perfection.
Iām not a fan for haggis but this restaurant is a nice place to try the Scottish iconic dish as well as the steak pie. My favorite was the sea bass and potatoes which were quite surprisingly tasty. You wouldnāt believe how can the potatoes be so delicious and keep wanting more š„²Definitely love the old fashioned decorations here and the tale behind āthe butterfly and the pigā was a genius idea
