Honestly i came to this place just to have one dish and then move on to another restaurant as my friends were saturated with Italian cuisine. However since i had heard a lot about ravioli here, i promised them one dish and then we move on to try Greek cuisine, but as they say ...Promises are meant to be broken, and for this place, it was well worth it !

Obviously we began with Ravioli Novelli - Apparently this dish was named after some celebrated chef called Christopher Novelli who had won the title of Top Italain Chef in Scotland for 2013. As far as awards and accolades go, this restaurant has been voted as the best Italain restaurant for 4 years in a row from 2013.

After having this dish it was needless to say we charged on the menu and ordered other delicacies as well. Prominent among them was Crespella alla valdostana (Spinach, mushroom and cheese crepe in tomato sauce)

Deserts were equally good and we could not settle with just one
White chocolate with nutella was the best from the lot
Tiramisu came a closed second
Creme brulee & caramel cheese cake were a winner in their own rights
Chocolate mouse was the only let down for me as i dont prefer bitter chocolate , overall deserts were fab !!!!

Excellent experience that I wasn't really expecting in Glasgow. The ambience was warm and cozy, not fancy and cold. The food was fresh and well prepared. The staff took personal interest. Overall, loved dining here.

We loved it. The clientel were mostly locals ( not tourists like ourselves). Servers were attentive. The seafood linguini and the sole in lemon were superb.

I was very pleased with La Lanternaā€™s work. It has the feel of a Glasgow institution to it, with an audience of customers that gave the sense of having dined there for many years

Iā€™m fiercely loyal to one in particular ā€“ La Lanterna. So the first place we booked for our trip to Glasgow had to be there.Ā La Lanterna is at the bottom of Hope Street and you can easy walk past it without looking up. Itā€™s when you walk down those stairs that the magic happens & youā€™re transported to the Mediterranean. We booked online so got our complimentary glass of bubbly to toast being back in our favourite city.Ā

Weā€™d been saving up for the trip down so we werenā€™t going to pass up the langoustines to start. They come in a garlic and herb butter with all the necessary tools to break into the tasty claw meat. Mr S chose the Rib eye steak because the meat in La Lanterna is always tasty and this was no different. Served with plenty of lovely button mushrooms but could have done with a few more chips.

Homemade ravioli is so hard to find in restaurants so I have it here on most visits. The braised duck and apple ravioli is sweet but the red wine & rosemary jus provides a savoury contrast. Itā€™s just delicious! The ravioli portions are big so you donā€™t really need a starter. Just save some bread to mop the jus up. Ā

Iā€™d recommend all of the ravioli and risotto in here ā€“ especially the veal ravioli & chicken risotto. For years we always had the tiramisu for dessert but now we swither between the tiramisu and cheesecake. This unbaked one is mascarpone led, rich yet light enough and dominates the plate. The strawberries and sauce add to it but by no means take over.Ā

La Lanterna is one of the things that I miss most about Glasgow. Iā€™d love to say that we could try to recreate it up here one day but I know how much work goes into running a restaurant and I could never of even dream of reaching that level of Italian perfection. Some things are meant to be a treat and this one will always be worth the wait.

I have a list of restaurants that I want to try in Glasgow. In fact, I have a list of places that includes restaurants that Iā€™ve been to before that I want to write about on here that Iā€™ve raved to my friends about. As you can imagine, thereā€™s not a small number of places on it but it gives me a feeling of satisfaction to cross one off. I love to tell people about places that Iā€™ve enjoyed ā€“ my dad does this too & I think Iā€™ve inherited his inability to keep information like this to myself. Out of all the restaurants in Glasgow the one that I rave about the most is La Lanterna on Hope Street. I love the place and hardly anyone my age seems to know about it so I spread the word. All the time!

Itā€™s a cosy restaurant tucked down some stairs with old fashioned dĆ©cor and white tablecloths. Itā€™s a traditional Italian that makes their own ravioli & tiramisu instead of buying it in and closes on a Sunday. They recently won Scotlandā€™s Best Italian Restaurant at the Scottish Entertainment awards & last year they won Best Italian Restaurant at The Glasgow Restaurant Awards so I am not the only person who has noticed how good they are. On a personal note, La Lanterna has lots of happy memories for me ā€“ many family gatherings, engagement celebrations, honeymoon choosing & anniversary dinners have taken place here.

As soon as we sat down we were brought over our free glass of fizz that they give you if you book online via their website. We took ages looking at the menu ā€“ everything sounds nice and it is a big menu so difficult to decide. The complimentary bread and butter arrived to stave off hunger so we could take our time. Eventually we decided on starter pastas and then the chateaubriand (it costs the same as two steaks and is always to die for).

Mr S went for the spaghetti with king prawns & lobster tail in white wine & cream sauce (Ā£7.95). For a starter portion they were very generous with the lobster meat & prawns, and the sauce bound the dish together without being overpowering or cloying.

I chose the venison ravioli in a red wine & rosemary jus (Ā£7.95). Almost every time I go to La Lanterna I have ravioli of some description because it is always tasty. I can vouch for three of the ravioli flavours on the main menu too, having only missed out on the goats cheese one because I donā€™t eat goats cheese. There are only a few restaurants in Glasgow that I know of that make their own ravioli so I like to take advantage of it when I can. This visit was no different ā€“ perfectly cooked pasta parcels with a rich, meaty filling. Luckily I saved a piece of bread to mop up the leftover jus.

I was so distracted by the ravioli that I forgot to take a photo at the start so apologies for the messy, part-eaten photo.

We asked Chris (the owner) about which red wine would suit the chateaubriand and he recommended the Nero Di Troia, which went perfectly. The wine list is as extensive as the menu, ranges from Ā£14.95 to Ā£195 a bottle and has a whopping 35 reds to choose from ā€“ the staff have always been helpful in assisting us in what to choose.

The chateaubriand arrived at the table on a big platter and is served in front of you. It comes with mushrooms, tomatoes, leaves, sautĆ© potatoes & a generous boat of red wine and meat juice gravy. The meat was melt in the mouth and the gravy was rich ā€“ this really is a sublime dish. The sautĆ© potatoes are crunchy but I notice that they do chunky chips and potato purĆ©e with a few other dishes so I must ask for one of them next time to try for variation.

At this point we usually have tiramisu ā€“ it is made in house & is my favourite in Glasgow ā€“ but decided to share the cheesecake (Ā£4.95) this time. Iā€™m glad we did because it was creamy but fresh with the strawberries and as good as the tiramisu.

La Lanterna will remain to be one of my Glasgow favourites for the foreseeable future and I look forward to more happy memories.

This place is fantastic, proper Italian! The food is really, really good. I got the carbonara and it was so rich and creamy it was probably the best I've had. We were a bit cramped is my only criticism but I think it added to the atmosphere, like a big loud family crowded around the table enjoying amazing Italian food, definitely felt authentic.

Since we were attending a concert, we booked this restaurant about 3 months prior to our event and since there was 5 of us wanted to be guaranteed a table. The menu choices were good, I went with the old classics however my friends all chose different things and they all looked excellent and with empty plates at the end obviously tasted excellent šŸ‘Œ Reasonable prices for the food and drinks we had. Will definitely be back if I'm in Glasgow again. šŸ˜€

Some of the best food Iā€™ve had in a long time. Menu was absolutely fantastic containing several tasty starters and also lots of vegetarian options. I went for the bruschetta classic and the Arancini, which were both cooked to perfection and tasted excellent. The food also came at the perfect time, not taking too long to arrive as is common in some other fancy restaurants šŸ. finally, I had the copper Alaska, which was lovely, sweet meringue with mixed berries and ice cream. Five star restaurant, lovely atmosphere

Our third time at La Lanterna, itā€™s reputation for the best Italian Restaurant in Glasgow is well deserved. The food is superb and authentically cooked and presented by wonderful and friendly Italian staff, who know their dishes and are proud of the quality of the food they serve you. Fantastic wine list with lovely Pinot Grigio, Trentino and Sicilian Grillo whites, being our favourites, but there are dozens more of all types, reasonably priced. The dishes from the wonderfully light dipping bread, crispy arrancini and mouthwatering scallop starters, followed by veal Milanese with wild mushroom tagliatelle and my wifeā€™s rich flavour packed lasagne were fantastic. I had the Zabaglione alla Marsala which was a revelation and is now favourite dessert!, my wife had the chefs special chocolate mousse which was so light and melted in your mouth, gorgeous. All of this delicious food was helped along with a bottle Grillo too. Not cheap, but I think very reasonably priced for the high standard of the meal and service from the staff and chefs. Quality is not expensive, itā€™s priceless! We will definitely return. Outstanding Italian restaurant.

Although a little expensive, La Laterna is my absolute favourite Italian restaurant in Glasgow. The food is packed full of flavour and extremly aromatic. The atmosphere is fancy but not overwhelming or uncomfortable like some other fine-dining establishments. Service is prompt and friendly and we were afforded a nice break between courses to settle our stomach's.

Food was spectacular, loved every bite, great selection of wines and cocktails. Service was above and beyond. We felt looked after but not smothered and were given plenty of time between courses to chat and not feel rushed at all. Would recommend and will be back. Top notch Italian restaurant! Massive thank you to all the staff for making it a wonderful experience.

Wow. What a restaurant very busy says it all . Authentic Italian home cooking no chain here. I would book at weekends. When the bill arrived very reasonable. Highly recommended short walk across road from Glasgow central station.
