Intimate restaurant and atmosphere. Great personal service from Lindsay. Not a large but well considered and interesting food and wine menu. We shared the excellent tomato and gazphacio soup creation with burrata cheese. My partner had the perfectly cooked Scottish steak and I had the chickpea ragout with aubergine, courgette, toast red pepper and whipped hazelnut. All were very, very good. We shared an excellent roasted cauliflower gratin side. For dessert, we shared a pistachio sponge with goats cheese and spiced cherries and cherry sorbet. It was light and flavoursome. We thoroughly enjoyed theFrench rose ; for the quality, reasonably priced.
Great meal, service and atmosphere. Highly recommend.
We had an amazing meal here on our recent trip to Glasgow, there were 6 of us, the service was excellent, the food was very tasty. We all had starters, most of our party had the monkfish and said it was lovely, I myself had the Striploin of beef that was cooked to perfection, it was just the way I like it, medium rare, it just melted in my mouth. I was greedy and had a desert, can’t remember what it was called, but, it was Turkish delight, jellies, pistachio nougat , chocolate ice cream and there was something else but can’t remember what it was, I have a very sweet tooth and it was amazing, it was one of the best deserts I have had in a long time. The server we had could not have been more helpful, thank you for a lovely evening, and next time I’m in Glasgow we will be back.
We had a large party and booked upstairs area. The staff were the perfect - filling up water, refilling wine, knew who ordered what etc.
The food was really impressive. The menu had great variety for all dietary requirements. I had the salmon starter, the salmon was perfectly cooked and melted in mouth. I also had the sea bream as a main. Both had fantastic complex flavours.
Also I was very happy with the cost, I thought it was very reasonably price.
I recommend this place and will go back.
Great food and great service! Perhaps a little on the pricier side, but that goes hand in hand with fine dining and great food. The service was really nice; lots of fine dining restaurants can be a little cold or robotic, but here the staff were really friendly and nice. Food was well served, well done, and all round a lovely experience. Will surely be going back.
Only been there once a few years ago but the food was delicious. Waiting to revisit Glasgow so I can go back for a meal here. Highly recommended!
Had a great experience here, went in on a weeknight with no reservation and the staff were happy to seat us. We were told that a couple of big tables had come in just in front of us and there might be a longer wait than usual on food. They brought us some bread and balsamic while we waited and we ordered a bottle of the Pinot Noir, which was lovely!
We weren't waiting long before they took our order, we started with olives and shortbread, these tasted fresh and delicious, the shortbread had a cheese flavour and went really nicely with the olives. We ordered the pork belly and gnocchi as mains. These were fantastic, every ingredient worked perfectly together - we found the quality of the food outstanding. For desert we tried the choux pastries filled with coffee, orange and salted caramel cremes, again we were delighted with the quality and flavour. This has been one of my favourite meals in Glasgow, I highly recommend everyone to try this food!
Nice petit restaurant in the west end. I think they only serve a selection from their 2-3 course menu. We tried a selection of these with majority of entrees and mains. They were well cooked and presented but lack the wow factor. Taste wise, the flavour combination was good especially with the chicken breast I ordered, which comes with a Caesar type salad & anchovies. Their bream was also well cooked and matched the peas which accompany it. Overall, I think its worth giving it a go. Its suitable for longer business lunches if time allows.
Finally get to try it out. I visited No. 16 on Friday evening with my girlfriend. This was our first trip here after a couple of years of meaning to. Thankfully we were not disappointed. We thought we would try out the pre-theatre for our first visit as it seemed very good value and the selection was also very good. We were both more than suitably impressed with our selections, everything tasted fantastic and the ingredients were good quality and nice and fresh, so flavours were very good. This gave us a good feeler to gauge for a future return trip to try out ala carte next time, which we are now looking forward to. From the moment we walked in the door the staff were very friendly and helpful. I can see why this place gets a good name, the food is of a very good standard and for the price represents excellent value.
Different class. I have visited this restaurant over the years and at last someone has hit the spot. I remember the chef/owner, who used to send out under seasoned bland food (he has now taken over another establishment in the west end) However, his departure has been a god send to my palate. Well done Number 16 you have rescued my taste buds.
By far my favourite restaurant in Glasgow, food, service and wines all brilliant. Prices reasonable, my only gripe is infrequent changes to menu.
Wee Aladin's Cave. This is a great wee restaurant. One of those places you don't really like to tell people about because it might get too busy!
The food is packed full of flavour and the staff are just lovely.
Without a doubt my favourite restaurant in Glasgow. The food is always on form, and the service impeccable and despite being the restaurant being the size of a thumbnail they still have a great range of drinks and wine. I defy anyone to not like this place.
Not so sure about the 'scottis description of the menu but the small menu was a wonderfulix of the best ingredients and unusual flavours. Very cost environment in fact so many people came in the door they appeared to disappear. Tow of my party had bream and cod which was perfectly cooked. This part of byres road has several restaurants but nber 16 is a treat.
The restaurant has an understatedly classy but homely look to it & fantastic individual style wood tables. Finally, our waitress was just lovely. There was only one on because it was a Wednesday lunchtime and the place is very small but we didn’t have to wait for anything. She was helpful and made us feel at ease. I just hope that next time I visit that the restaurant lives up to the high expectations – thats when I will know its worth.
New Years Eve (or as us Scots call it, Hogmanay) is traditionally a big party night with plenty of drams to keep everyone going. The last couple of hogmanays have been quiet for me with work but this year I decided to arrange a big get-together with some friends of ours. We had friends come from London, Aberdeen, Belfast & Kirkcudbright so I needed a foolproof plan to make the night a success for everyone. After lots of group messaging, it was decided that we would go to Number 16 on Byres Road for dinner and to the Ashton Lane Street Party afterwards.
We were booked in at the restaurant at 5.30pm, partly because of the availability that the restaurant had left and partly because we wanted to arrive at the lane early so that we could all get seats. Number 16 had a special hogmanay menu on with three courses and a glass of fizz for £29.95 – an absolute bargain on hogmanay.
I have eaten the pork belly main course in here before and this starter was like a mini version. Three or four people that I have been chatting to about this restaurant mentioned the pork belly dish so it is not just me who loves it. I hope that they never take this off the menu.
I had the venison for my main course – it was perfectly cooked and tender and I loved each flavour in the dish. My only gripe was that it was a bit sweet for me so I would have preferred less of the sweet stuff on the plate and more puree or a savoury element.
The seabass was a close second for me when choosing what to have because I loved the sound of it but my friend who had it said it was delicious.
The seabass was a close second for me when choosing what to have because I loved the sound of it but my friend who had it said it was delicious.
The only reason that I never chose the panna cotta is because I had poached fruit with my main but it went down well with the others.
The cheesecake was rich and tasty, and the peanut praline gave the dish a nice change of texture. I was sad to see that the (best I’ve ever eaten) sticky toffee pudding was not on the menu but this made up for it. Our waiter was also very helpful with tweaking the dish for Mr S so that it did not contain nuts. I really respect restaurants who make dishes that the nuts can be removed from, rather than lacing the main element with nuts leaving allergy sufferers little choice on the menu.
Except from a drinks spill and momentarily setting a napkin on fire (!) the meal was a success and we were ready for continuing our night at Ashton Lane.
My husband and I were wowed by our experience at number 16. It was our last meal of our honeymoon, and we wanted a really good dinner. I cannot say enough about this restaurant. The food was exquisite. Everything from the soup to the entrees, to the incredible lemon dessert thing! The service was excellent too! I wish I could remember our servers name. He was super tall with reddish hair. 20 some thing.
I think one of the best references we can give is that we were sitting next to a party who were locals. Will locals as in three hours from the restaurant. They said that they never miss coming to the restaurant every time they’re in town. The next time we are in Glasgow, we will definitely make it back!
We discovered this wonderful restaurant today. We ate duck leg terrine, cured salmon, venison ragu, pork belly & coconut parfait. Every dish was perfectly balanced and totally delicious. This small, but perfectly formed restaurant, is a must visit! Great service & lovely intimate atmosphere.
Out for our anniversary dinner..
We both agreed that this was probably the best food we have had in the Glasgow area.
The food was exceptional and the service matched the food..
Great little restaurant with reasonably priced delicious food.. We will definitely be back..
My partner & I tried 2 starters, 2 mains and 2 desserts from their 3 course set menu. We love everything! From the service to the plating, and esp the careful & well put together pairing of fusion of flavours in each plate was simply divine. Highly recommended :-)
Very tiny space but used with extreme efficiency.
We started with an appetizer of olvies and bread with amazingly good French butter and a dip of olive oil and presumably balsamic glaze. The olives were very meaty which was unusual, but pleasant.
I had a smoked salmon appetizer, which I found unimpressive at first, until I discovered the transparent citrus gel underneath. When each of the components were eaten together - the dish was fantastic.
I was similarly impressed by the pork belly and chicken mains. All perfectly cooked and very moist. The quality of the stock/gravy was particularly good.
The desserts were okay, especially when juxtaposed with the other dishes.
Our waitress was singlehandedly working ten tables seamlessly.
I could not be happier with our evening and would love
Food was absolutely amazing. Lovely, little restaurant with attentive staff and an exciting, appetising menu!
Food was absolutely fabulous! The best restaurant eaten in Glasgow. A must when visiting Glasgow. Need to make reservations in advance.
GO THERE. Trust me, its worth. All the food is super uper unique with carefully picked ingredients . Every dish was just great.
Visiting the city and we had to eat here!
What a stunning meal!
It's a small, warm restaurant with was super friendly staff.
The food was really really nice!
Loved the scallops, Loved the lamb, Love all the dishes! They were packed with so many flavours!
Stunning!
Highly recommended it!
Fine and cozy restaurant located in the West End area. Well decorated and accurate in the finest details. Great service, excellent food served with their own homemade bread fragrant and simply lovely. Haute cuisine recipes cooked perfectly with fresh and succulent ingredients. Highly recommended.
