We have been visiting Wee Lochan for years. We love it.
Today it was EVEN better. My mushroom soup memorable; our hake always delicious; fig posset dessert to fight over - (we were supposed to be sharing!) The staff are lovely too and they also have art on the walls.
J&E Harris. Wonderful lunch with friends who are real foodies and they said it was the best lunch they had had in many a long time!
Birthday Treat. This place is friendly, cosy, and has very good food. It was a treat to find this place and celebrate my wife's birthday. We couldn't recommend it highly enough. Next time - dinner!
We went for dinner last week. Excellent food, wonderful friendly service and at great price as well
Highly recomended
A Hiddden gem. Having never ventured to jordanhill since my college days, i was pleasantly surprised by my 1st visit to An Lochan. A real quality find off crow road. Interior was well finished, place was warm and well the food was very tasty and well presented. Definately one for scottish fish lovers but great other choices. Excellent value for money. A place to go to treat someone special. One wee minor point, music didnt go with setting. More ambiance please, but that apart will definately be back sooner rather than later
Great seafood food, and in a comfortable and intimate environment. Good beers and wines to complement the food. Helpful staff. Local and fresh food. Their hotels are excellent too!
One that has escaped our notice for far too long. A popular choice with locals and now we know why. Relaxed atmosphere with excellent service, good portions of robust food.

We had a fantastic time today! We loved the Cullen skink. Very soupy. The salmon with bread was good too. The chicken and chips were amazing. Juicy chicken and nice kale and chips too. Sticky toffee pudding was great too.
I've been in the UK for a week and a half and this was by far the best food I've had. Everything was delicious - the cullin skink to start, the rabbit and seabass as the mains (split between two of us). Very highly recommend this spot if you're in Glasgow looking for a dinner spot!
Great wee place, food was great staff very friendly.
I will definitely be back soon loved the Sunday roast the meat was amazing,a part of the meat was slow cooked what melts in the mouth.
Price is not to bad to for the Quality of the food is well worth it. I would recommend this to anyone looking for nice food
We first came here five years ago (was it really that long?) when it was still 'An Lochan'. I heard a rumour that they changed the name because people kept asking them who 'An' was... are people really that thick?
It's changed a lot since then - physically there seem to be more tables than I remember, and the menu is now a single-page affair of broad-spectrum Scottish fare including meat dishes, whereas before it was a multi-page seafood-only extravaganza. I still fondly remember the shared seafood platter... mmmmm.
However, although the menu may have downsized, the quality is still as high as ever. I started with crab spring rolls with a chilli jam dip, which were light and very tasty, followed by a Thai-style seafood medley in coconut sauce, which managed to carry a fair degree of kick without overwhelming the delicate flavours of the fish. Delicious.
Herself had scallops to start, which were really fresh and cooked to perfection, and followed this with the lemon sole with salmon mousse. I had been tempted by this, but when it arrived I was quite glad I hadn't picked it as it looked a bit too creamy for my taste. Yet it disappeared without trace so clearly was appreciated!
We were both hungry enough to manage a dessert - Herself had a kiwi and mango pavlova that seemed absolutely huge; I went for an intriguing coffee jelly in brandy snap basket with caramel sauce, although I declined the clotted cream option. I wasn't sure about the coffee jelly as it was a very different taste, but maybe it would grow on me over time.
Overall, a fantastic meal; good portions, superb presentation, perfectly cooked and generally scrumptious all round.
Although it was pretty full when we arrived for the early evening shift, the staff were attentive and helpful at explaining everything on the menu (to my disappointment, it turned out that a 'financier' on the dessert menu had nothing to do with accountants).
The chairs are sumptuous and comfortable, although some could do with replacing as the seats are getting a bit on the saggy side; luckily cushions had been provided for those that were a bit too far gone.
Oh - and there's a giant pink and yellow raffia giraffe called Felicity in the gent's loo... I have no idea why, but it's quirky and I like it.
The food here is heavenly. You can tell so much thought and care is put into each dish. I came in time for the pre-theatre dinner that lasts from 5 - 6:30pm and offers great deals. I had 2 courses for £14.95 and both dishes were superb.
The restaurant is small which gives it an intimate feel and the lighting makes you feel warm and cozy. It seems to be a good idea to book a table because it fills up, but once you try the food you will understand why.
Everything about this place screams quality. Next time I go I am definitely saving room for dessert!
On of the best restaurants in Glasgow. Staff are extremely nice and food was amazing. I would come here again.
September 2014
Borne out of An Lochan, the Wee Lochan is a quaint little restaurant in the Broomhill area of the West End. I'm not really sure of the history of the place and whether it's the same owners as before (or whether there are any links with an Argyll hotel with a very similar name); perhaps these are questions for next time...
We turned up for lunch without a booking (as seems to be our way these days!) as we had actually intended to try Don Costanzo in the Park Area for the first time. However, it was closed when we arrived (1220), despite the website saying it was open, so we've still not been there. We sat in the car for a few minutes trying to think of an alternative lunch spot and were soon en route to Broomhill as we realised we hadn't been to An Lochan since the name change (or ownership change..?).
We were soon sitting at one of the three available tables with some ice cold water and some lovely bread rolls and butter. The restaurant was almost full of a variety of patrons and the general buzz was good. Mrs Glasgowscran had her obligatory glass of white wine whilst I, the driver, had a refreshing fresh orange and lemonade.
We poured over the menu and I opted to start with the Cullen Skink and Mrs G the scallops with pancetta and pea puree. The Skink was very good; nice and hot with beautiful chunks of fresh fish. It was one of the nicest Skinks I'd had for a while and I certainly do enjoy a Skink (careful!). Mrs G loved her starter. She's got an obsession with scallops and will rarely see past them if they're on the starter menu! The combination of the scallops, pancetta and pea (classic) made for a mouth-watering (I tasted it) plate. Yes, we were both very happy thus far.
For mains, Mrs Glasgowscran had ordered the pigeon, from the starter menu, which sounded fantastic (we've been eating a fair bit of pigeon recently due to a hunter-gatherer at my work and have really been enjoying it; very underrated meat). The friendly front of house staff member came and explained that there had been a mix up with their supplier and they had sent partridge rather than pigeon. Rather than simply giving Mrs G the menu and asking her to choose something else, the lovely lady showed real interest and concern; she enquired as to whether Mrs G fancied something gamey and then suggested the venison from the dinner menu. This was not normally available at lunch but it showed there was a genuine desire to appease the customer in the face of a slight hiccup.
The venison came with dauphinoise potatoes, parsnip puree, green beans and figs rolled in bacon (we think, Mrs G wasn't a fan of these). The dish was finished off with a tasty gravy. Other than the figs in bacon Mrs G loved this dish which certainly satisfied her desire for game!
I had ordered the Thai-style fish (I can't for the life of me remember whether it was cod or monkfish... My hunch is the latter. I must start jotting things down!) served in a coconut broth with fragrant rice and tempura prawns and spring onion. This dish was superb. It was very authentic tasting with a perfect level of spice; the tempura prawns and spring onion were simply lovely. The portion size was generous and I could not stop myself from devouring every last grain of rice.
As per usual we were not up to the task for trying to devour dessert, despite the options sounding very nice...
All in all a lovely lunch. We were impressed not only with the quality of the food, but also the reaction of the front of house staff in order to overcome a mix up with the food they could actually put before us. On top of this, they charged us the price the starter pigeon would have been for the venison. This was actually less than half the price the venison sold at. I can't emphasise enough that this act really did leave a pleasant taste in our mouth (both literally and figuratively) and we will certainly be back shortly.
Well done Team Wee Lochan.
What's not to love about the Wee Lochan? Perfect for relaxed, intimate dining, the Wee Lochan consistently serves up high quality, delicious food. I honestly fell in love with the Goats Cheese Soufflé!
(I also love the stories printed on the inside of each menu - be prepared to take some extra time to read all the different ones at your table!)
Absolutely amazing! Service as well. Had the starter that consisted of salmon on top a tart which was just fantastic! Main course was the pan fried pork medallions served over mashed potatoes with mushroom gravy, seared green beans, and a side of rocket greens.
Lovely decor and atmosphere to go with the meal. Definitely coming again and will recommend to anyone who enjoys a good bite.
Nothing but positive things to say! 5 stars!
Stumbled across this place by pure chance just driving past.
I expected a little coffee shop type cafe however was surprised at the choice of meals on offer when presented with the menu.
My partner started with the rabbit and enjoyed it very much, I myself began with the Cullen skink, now this is usually a hit and miss in places, normally very little haddock, very watery and no real flavour from the salt or smokiness of the fish, this was not the case here .... I have to say it's the best I've had in years and certainly the best in Glasgow
My partner went on to the pan fried sea bream which was a delight and my smoked salmon on potato waffle was very good, only negative was the potato waffle was a little stodgy in the middle
I got a coffee after while my partner enjoyed a chocolate tart, she loved it, I would say my coffee was Luke warm. They need to learn to warm the cup before pouring the coffee into cold crockery
All in all I'd say it's a gem of a find and I look forward to sampling the rest of their menu
Wee Lochan is just a 10 minute walk from flat which makes it super handy!
This was my first time here and I don't think it's the type of place to turn up without bookings since it's seems really popular
The atmosphere is very laid back, no background music on, just the general chat to be heard.
I ordered the monkfish tail tempura which was amazing and I could have eaten another ten times over, Stuart had the Cullen Skink to start and said it was the best he had ever tasted!
Main courses were Lamb Tangine which came with sweet potato and other well cooked veg, the main course portions are a good size, however I always manage to leave a wee bit of room for a pudding
We both had the Rhubarb crumble which came with ice cream and again I would have licked the plate if I could it was just delicious!
Can't wait to go back here!!!
Best meal I've had in years! Starter of pulled pork and tasted the venison, seabass and salmon mains. All excellent flavours and so much care went into the presentation. Will be back again!
This restaurant has changed its name to the Wee Lochan. The food is fantastic, the staff are helpful, pleasant and friendly. It's a lovely place with nicely spaced tables that are not too close together. We had a great night here with gorgeous food and the staff made a real effort to engage with all of us at the table including our 3 year old who also had a great evening. Would highly recommend. Well worth a visit.
A Scottish seafood restaurant situated between Anniesland and Partic An Lochan is jewel in the crown of Scottish cuisine. It was actually my grandfather who took me here, (a favourite of his). The food is of an excellent standard and I highly recommend anybody who has a pallet for Scottish or seafood to be sure to dine here. The food is of exceptional standard and the staff are very friendly.
Came for an early lunch with some friends. We had reserved a table and had no trouble getting shown to our table and given both the set lunch menu for the day as well as the a la carte. The a la carte menu had plenty of delicious sounding options, but we all agreed to just go with the 2 course set lunch menu as all the dishes were the same anyway.
Displayed around the walls of the restaurant lots of photos and artwork, some of which were available for sale. Most of the art looked like scenes from around Glasgow, so gives the restaurant an extra local feel.
After giving our orders we were given 3 pieces of warmed mini rolls with butter. The warmed butter was nice and easy to spread onto the roll. I don't normally give much thought to the pre-meal, this roll was delicious!
For starters, the group ordered a "Wee Lochan haggis, bashed neeps and tatties with beef carpaccio and Madiera sauce" and "Soup of the day", the latter being a fish soup. There was a vegetarian option for the soup of the day as well, but I chose to have a dessert instead for my 2 course main. Both the starters elicited high praise especially the way the haggis had been cooked with the crumbs giving it a crispy texture in contrast with the usually soft haggis. The presentation went down well too.
For the mains we went with "Cauliflower tartlet with brie and crushed potatoes", "Roast chicken with black pudding and champ mash, kale". Again, all the dishes came out well presented, picture perfect even. My vegetarian dish looked like a work of art and tasted good. The dish came with a side salad, which was nice except for raw onions which I do not like and just too strong when it already had peppery rocket leaves. The tartlet tasted good, the various seeds mixed with the Brie giving it a pleasant aroma with each bite. So it turned out crushed potato was a different thing from mashed potato. The texture being like a mix of mashed and soft boiled potato.
I was the only one who wanted dessert which was Tonka bean crème brûlée. At first I just wanted because it sounded like the whole Tonka bean concept was a new exotic ingredient fad and a little curiosity about what Tonka bean tasted like. Given that crème brûlée normally has vanilla in it anyway, I can't say it had much effect on the taste. Except that it had a slight hint of very fine chocolate and like something spiced, a bit like cinnamon, with a hint of aroma of almonds.
Over, the options for starters, main courses and sweets, and service were all good.. For those with less restrictive diet, the food will go down well. For vegetarians, the options are limited, but it's only a small independent restaurant.
Wee Lochan was the perfect place for a family dinner. Calm atmosphere, awesome food (vegetarian options as well) and super nice people. I will come back for sure whenever I visit Glasgow again
Have just been to the wee Lochan today for lunch was very impressed with the quality of the food it had a great atmosphere and the staff were great ambassadors for the establishment locals are very fortunate to have such a culinary delight on their doorstep Charles& Phyllis spiers

After going to about 100 different eateries across Glasgow, I'd say Wee Lochan in easily top 5.
Great food without being completely overpriced, pretentious or having too small portions. The menu is outstanding, short in length (which is ideal, sign of a good chef) with every item being an absolute hit.
100% recommend.
Lovely food! Great service 😁
Consistently fantastic food and the serving staff are quick, friendly and knowledgeable. Booking is a must, as the place is quite rightly packed out every weekend. Not only is the food prepared to perfection, the presentation looks like something from the final of MasterChef and the portions are generous in size. One of the best places in Glasgow at the moment and only a short stroll away for lucky West-enders.
Very familiar style of restaurant. Fantastic food. Nice personnel. Visit it!
Wow. Best meal I've had in a long while. And got in pretty easily on a Friday night (to my surprise!). The rabbit was delicious. Definitely would recommend!
Food absolutely fab. Haggis and venison starter and Haddock for mains. Smashing. Love the starter combo. Cabbage and the everything just went together so well.
