A scary trip over the hills from Chesterfield in the snow was rewarded once we landed at the lovely and atmospheric Harrington Arms. We hadn’t booked and were relieved to find we could get a table, in a small but cosy room with an open fire just off the well stocked bar. Being St Patrick’s night, Guinness was ordered and was going down extremely well, with a Fentiman’s Rose lemonade on the side, while we checked out the menu. Veeerrry nearly went for the kedgeree from the specials menu, but the fish, chips and mushy peas with a deliciously chunky homemade tartare sauce just won out. More Guinness was ordered, and finally began to relax in the warmth of this great little pub. The fish and chips came - and disappeared pretty quickly, delicious crunchy beer batter and thick white fish with proper chips and the tastiest mushy peas... A flat white was ordered while I finished the Guinness, then regretfully we started out, back into the blizzard, after paying the ridiculously small bill. Everything a pub should be - well kept beers, great food, attentive service and a lovely natural atmosphere. It’s a big fat YES from me!

Great find. Just off the main road and all but hidden. Bags of character. Sunday lunch totally home cooked and top quality. Not on our doorstep but gone in the black book for future use.

Just popped to the Harrington arms for somewhere to go on a Saturday afternoon. Absolutely lovely place, with a beautiful outdoor space. And, my freshly made pizza was fantastic! Exceptionally friendly staff too. X

The heart and soul of any pub is the people that run it and the people that choose to frequent it, there is no doubt that the Harrington is a great pub - you know when you walk in that this place has a long and chequered history with many a tale to tell. It boasts good food, good good crack and timeless atmosphere but without Andy and Caroline the pub would be a heartless shell. They have managed to maintain a fine balance between running a sustainable business whilst maintaining the character and unique qualities of this rare gem of a pub - long May you reign! Cheers!!!

This pub has amazing food, you know the good old proper English food your mum used to make. Also have locally sourced game. Friendly staff, great area outside and dog friendly

Visited on the recommendation of an acquaintance who said it would be a good place to spend the afternoon if the weather was wet, while waiting for one of the Gawsworth Hall concerts to start. Well, the weather was fine but we'd booked a table for ourselves and a couple of other friends who were over from Australia so we rolled up early to 'sus' the place out. Immediately loved it. Had a beer, and another. Went up to the Hall, met our friends and walked back in time to have our meal. Now, these folk aren't easily impressed but they too loved the whole deal. Great beer, good food and service in a place that has real charm. Can see why they have awards hanging in the entrance. If the opportunity arises, we'll certainly be back... whatever the weather. Recommended. Allan Smith Lancashire.

I really enjoyed the cozy quiet atmosphere, the roaring fire, friendly service but best of all the food. Gorgeous piping hot roast beef dinner, cooked to perfection, not over facing, and homemade gravy.

As usual, most enjoyable lunch - made even more special by the sun and being able to sit in the beautifully extended garden. Perfect!

We enjoyed the popular outside space on a sunny day. The pub grub was good. Be prepared to wait a while for food on busy days.

Previous comment Edited with hindsight: something of huge note, the upgrade on the beer garden is top notch, and a quick google search will show you how great it has become for any size group… One of the best in Cheshire, winter or summer! And the beer is great too, Ine of the few places I have ever found Veltins on tap.

A proper rural pub (quaint some people would say) that offers a good variety of food which are at a reasonable price. Staff were courteous and friendly. Food was delicious , tasty and hot. Service throughout our visit was excellent. If you are in the area, thoroughly recommended 👌 👍.

After trying to find a pub for a drink and meal with our dog and being refused we visited the Harrington Arms. From the offset the staff were very welcoming to us and our dog. The staff were very helpful and friendly, the food was superb probably the best onion rings I've ever had. Would recommend this little gem of a pub.

The Harrington Arms very kindly hosted us for a few hours after our wedding ceremony. They organised a buffet, presecco and space for us to toast and cut our cake. We were really lucky to have wonderful weather so were able to make use of the lovely garden! The staff were all so lovely, supportive and accommodating. We didn't really want to leave for our evening reception! The team were really helpful when we were organising the event and made the whole process super easy. Thank you so much! Our friends and family loved the time we spent there and it was such a perfect part of the day being able to walk to the pub and enjoy a few drinks and yummy food after the wedding ceromony!
