Reviews Watergate Cafe

I have NO idea where the bad reviews below came from in terms of dog friendliness!! They have a dog social on a Sunday afternoon (which I plan to go to next week), sofas that dogs are allowed on, a dog shop with treats and essentials, you can borrow a ball and they have free dog poo bags and not to mention the staff were amazing with Moose! They absolutely loved him, gave him lots of treats and lots of cuddles. I’ve just moved to the area and will be making Watergate Cafe our weekly Sunday stop. Keep doing what you’re doing!! xx

Amazing cafe with gorgeous cakes. It was a wet miserable day and after a dog walk we were made to feel very welcome despite having a wet and muddy dog in tow. Highly recommended

Lovely little cafe, took some finding due to poor signposting. Good selection of food and drink and reasonably priced. Also, very dog friendly.

Nice little café on Watergate Park next to the pitches . Food available to eat in or takeaway. 2 coffees and a cheese scone came to £7.10 . Very dog friendly with pictures of them on every wall and a huge cuddly one you could win in a raffle ! Outside seating and toilet

Nice café, although they'd run out of sausages for humans when I got there (~2pm on a Thursday). The canine variant was still available and café seems very popular with dog walkers. The food is good, especially the cake, and the staff are really friendly. Pro tip: no fried eggs.

Fantastic friendly welcoming cafe Lovely coffee and scones Very dog friendly with treats available and even ball loan lol We called on a very wet day with 3 very wet and gruppy looking dogs and the lovely ladies couldn't of been more welcoming and helpful. We had walked for 2 hours in the rain from Tanfield and our visit here made every soggy step worthwhile. We will definitely visit again.

This not for profit cafe is delightful. Its very nicely decorated inside, has a couple small tables outside and all the profits go back into community projects. Meals are simple but nice. Sweets are delicious - highly recommend the fruit scone with cream, and the carrot cake. Good coffee and tea here too. Recommend

Adore this place. They always make a fuss of the dog and they are so incredibly friendly. The coffee is lovely and the treats are fantastic!

My dog had lost its ball and someone walking mentioned the cafe had a box of spares. I can not tell you how this saved the day. I didn't stop for coffee that time but the cakes looked so good and staff were friendly that I'm going with my niece and grandson today. I did notice a sign offering 2 scoops of ice-cream for dogs which I loved 🤓

Watergate Cafe is welcoming, friendly and open to everyone, including kids, dog walkers and their precious pooches (my Cav and Lab have always been warmly welcomed). It is a very relaxed environment and an affordable place to grab a bite / cuppa but offers more than that with regular activities organised for toddlers, children, Mums, runners, crafters etc. The scope of activities during summer holidays are especially broad ranging for kids and their really is something for everyone - worth checking out on Facebook to see what they have coming up (the gin tasting night was excellent and lampshade making classes were excellent). I think the cafe is exactly what Watergate Park was missing and can't believe what an important community hub it has become in such a short space of time. I look forward to seeing how it grows and what events will be organised :) Only improvement would be to see GF options on the menu.

Just discovered this place after walking the dog around the park and woods. The woman serving is very welcoming and she seemed to love my dog. Food is spot on as is the coffee and hot chocolate, prices are around 20-30p more than other cafes that are similar but you get what you pay for. Proper bacon, really good toasties and homemade cakes etc. Definitely be back, 5 stars from me. Hidden gem.

First visit. Lovely mug of tea - delicious looking homemade cakes, scones and snacks available but not time to sample any today. Seating outside for those not wanting takeaway. Good Covid precautions in place. Will definitely go back.
