We've just come home from two weeks staying just outside York at Naburn lock, myself partner and dad stopped at the bay horse for some food and drink and found it was only pizza served on Wednesday nights. We decided to stay and try the pizza, from that night on we called in every evening except Monday and Tuesday because it was closed for dinner. Martin and Donna made us so welcome and Tim the chef was brilliant producing fantastic meals for us, and when we asked for something different to the menu nothing was two much trouble, we will definitely be back to the bay horse again for food, and if you want a brilliant place to stay, stay here at the bay horse.

Fantastic pub! Me and my wife dropped in here on our stay at Fulford in York for a drink on our way to an event, we loved it so much we can back the next day for their red Thai mussels and their ultimate burger with hand cut chips. The food was incredible! We found out they had rooms, which the landlord Martin very kindly showed us, so next time we'll definitely stop there and have a meal in the evening and breakfast in the morning. The landlady Donna was so friendly and helpful, the two of them really made our stay extra special, it's worth going in just to meet them! The open fire was fantastic and made the place really lovely and cosy. We will deffinately be back here on our next trip to York.
Great little pub. Two different bars, so you can choose to sit with the younger crowd, or at my age, the quieter side by the fire ! Good food and decent choice of ales, although I'm a cider drinker ! Wine tasting and various other events keeps it interesting. Dog friendly, in fact our pooch was looked after food and drink wize, pretty much as quickly as we were. Steps to get into the pub might be difficult for wheelchair users, and the restrooms will likely be a bit tight too. In the better weather there's plenty of seating outside at the front and although for some reason no longer available at the rear.

My husband and I popped in by chance as our hotel restaurant was shut due to a power cut. We are SO glad we found The Bay Horse! Absolutely gorgeous chips, burger was fantastic and the sweet chilli beef noodles were so, so tasty. The couple running the pub were very friendly, and took the time to make conversation with us, which we really appreciated. Nothing was too much trouble for them. Next time we visit York we will certainly be back!
A very good local pub with good honest food, well kept beers a nice friendly ambience and staff. A pleasure to imbibe in.
Used to be a superb well run hotel with superb food.
Unfortunately due to covid the hotel is up for sale .
I booked for a party of eleven for April last year but the Hotel closed due to the pandemic.
WE left the booking open until we could eventually have our reunion when safely.
Now the management refuse to honour our booking or give us a refund.
Be careful if you book and certainly do not pay up front.
Traditional pub on the south side of York just inside the ring road. Good beer garden both out front and to the rear. Food is always good, limited menu but they have a good chef, and an outside pizza tent in the summer. No Sky TV any more which is a shame. Beer prices are a bit top end for my liking but we love to come down and sit out front in the beer garden on a sunny day and watch the world go by.
The Bay Horse has just re-opened under new management. The new landlord and landlady were very pleasant and welcoming. We tried the Ultimate burger and veggie burger both were excellent. The landlord Paul said that they intended to extend the menu choices soon. We enjoyed our meals and will definitely go back soon. A must try out pub.

Stopped by one evening after most other places nearby were closed and were certainly not disappointed! The brisket burger is seriously good. We are only in York for 5 days but will be returning for this excellent food.
Roomy bedroom, clean and comfortable bed. Bar had good food at reasonable prices with live music. Staff very helpful and welcoming. On the downside the furnishing of the room is a bit sparse. Otherwise would be a clear 5 stars.
Stopped here on way to Whitby, pub very quiet lovely draft ale and the food was really good, kids meals were massive and all freshly cooked. I had a sand which which was very generous portion and tasty. Definitely see recommend this place if your passing for a snack and a pint.
Stayed for three nights and had a lovely meal everynight. Menu varied and excellent prices.
Donna and Martin were very accommodating and friendly.
Would definatly recommend to stay here for a visit to York.
