What a gem! *Really* excellent food, wonderfully charming staff, perfectly kept real ale, and an interesting looking selection of gin too. The ales on tap were from Gritchie Brewery, one of Guy Ritchie's less well known ventures - good stuff though! I've only been here the once so far; apparently the publican (who is also also the chef) has only been running the place since June 2022 - an engaging and good humoured young chap, somehow seemingly able to look after a 15 month old girl at the same time with equal ease which, though I'm not a parent, frankly amazes me. I had the beetroot and pecan soup for a starter, which was quite deliciously aromatic and earthy, with hints of toasted fennel seed, served with fresh in-house bread. My partner had the rarebit-stuffed mushroom, which certainly delighted her! For my main I risked the fish and chips. Every now and again I persist in ordering fish and chips in the hope of finding something that isn't watery, bland and overcooked. Score! Despite being a long way from the coast, this place knocked it out of the park: best fish and chips I've had in perhaps 10 years? Despite that, my partner's choice of the steak and ale pie was the winner - rich and meaty, with perfect pastry. So good. I was kinda full by now but went for the tiramisu just because everything else had been so good - it didn't disappoint. My partner had an affogato, which was elevated by his home made ice cream. Apparently they have rooms as well, so I think in future we'll stop overnight here to break up our journeys to and from the West country - apparently you can book on Airbnb, though it's allegedly a little cheaper to book with them directly. Seriously recommend this place. Beautifully clean and elegantly decorated and fitted out. Even his baby daughter was cute, and I can't usually stand children. A bit remote but well worth going out of your way for.

Very impressed with Fish'n'chips, dearest enjoyed her prawns in butter, lots of attention to detail, don't even need salt and vinegar on my chips. Highly recommended, lived then gents sign too :-)

I absolutely love the GG. Always friendly and welcoming, well kept beer and a great selection of wines and gins. Brilliant food and the loveliest atmosphere. They also have rooms so I'm looking forward to staying some time so I can really give the wine list a good workout.

Great food at this pub. Very convivial company. Log fire in the back room. Hosts incredibly accommodating. No wonder Sunday lunch is booked up by Wednesday!

Just the tonic... a delicious sojourn, into childhood memories. Sunday lunch with family. Crackling pork belly, a crunch that lives long on into your drive home. Fermented garlic jam - three weeks in the making, feverishly devoured in five minutes. The aieriest sticky toffee pudding, butterfly like in it's lightest touch as it tickles the tummy on its way down... what more can you say. Stop in and enjoy the attentive service and most delicious of Sunday lunches ..

Tried this as a recommendation on a return journey from Devon; a journey often undertaken. The owner is also the Chef du Patron; the food was absolutely fab. Not as busy as other hostelries along the A303. Not open Monday-Tuesday. Definitely be back……..

The food was great, I had a chocolate mint dessert, that was particularly nice Had a quick chat with the very nice landlord, who took over recently, who gave us some of the local history

Fantastic, truly fantastic. The staff went above and beyond to hold the kitchen open while we arrived, after a long hike on Sunday 26th May. The welcome that we received set the tone for a wonderful experience. The staff could not be more helpful and polite, the service was excellent, the food was out of this world. We where able to meet the chief Alexander who is truly inspired by his craft. The atmosphere here is wonderful across between a pub restaurant and a Georgian house amazing.

Great food, great beer, and great staff. The decor and furnishings are very well presented and adds to the overall experience. Whether a quick pint or a sit down evening meal you can't fault the enthusiasm of all the staff and this is demonstrated by the fine food and great ale always available. A must visit for any ramblers, passing motorists or those looking for a twist on the traditional village pub.
