On a damp January, this pub was so welcoming with a lovely wood fire, excellent customer service and a varied menu !! Four for lunch and we all enjoyed the food !! Would recommend to anyone although I'm sure it gets very busy during the summer !!

Everything a pub should be. After a couple of let downs in the New Forest, the Rose and Thistle came up trumps. Great village, building and atmosphere, staff hitting all the right notes, delightful food. Did we like it? Hell yeah. Everything a gastropub should be.
Please please please would the owner kindly spread the word and train other eateries/pubs on customer service!????
Ps. If I could wrap this place up and take it home to Scotland, I would.

Fantastic. A jewel that is hidden but the atmosphere and food was the best.
The RAT hasn't changed a bit, still amazing food, great atmosphere and fab service. We enjoyed a lovely lunch; the burger was good as was the soup and rarebit. We'll be back for an evening meal soon!

My wife and I had dinner at the Rose and Thistle last night. Great food and great service; very impressed and would highly recommend the restaurant.
Despite the fact that the heating wasn't working and the ladies toilets were being refurbished we had a lovely lunch at the R&T Pub. The food was great. A nice menu with lots of choice and the staff were friendly, attentive and efficient.
Lovely pub, great food with good staff. Visited on bank holiday Monday for my birthday, my daughter had booked a table and they were very busy but food and service was superb. Then visited the following week with friends from work and again food and service was great

Absolutely fantastic meal last night . Cosy pub with log fire, relaxed atmosphere. Service was so friendly and very attentive. Food was amazing, there were 6 of us eating all with different starters, mains and desserts which were just delicious and beautifully presented. Can highly recommend!
Underestimated how long a cross country bike ride would take, so missed lunch by about an hour but had a lovely ½ hour in the garden of this beautiful pub.
Really friendly, welcoming service, great atmosphere, a great looking food and drinks menu and well worth another visit for lunch!
A very pretty place in a lovely village.
Staff very attentive, food is excellent, although it is a small menu. Booking advisable as only open limited hours.
The only negative for us was a dog coming through from the bar area to the restaurant trying to be fussed whilst we were eating, was a bit off putting.
Will definitely come back though when we visit the area. Outstanding place.

For and service was top draw. Only two girls serving due to conditions out of their control on a BH Weekend. They were great and coped so, so we'll with some, frankly, privileged customers. These girls need a bonus

This pub is also great as a base for a circular walk.
We had a fabulous meal here. The staff are all so friendly and the food was delicious. Would highly recommend and will be going again very soon!

Perfect Pub on the fringes of The New Forest.
We were a group of 4 plus a toddler.
Food was superb and Flacks Sunshine or Double Drop goes down a treat!
Staff were pleasant and accommodating.
We will pop back when this way again for sure!

Being just a 1/2 mile walk from our holiday cottage in Rockbourne, we just had to have Sunday lunch in this delightful local pub.
The food was really enjoyable (Sunday lunch nearly as good as the ones we make at home!). Staff attentive, polite, and personable.
What was my lasting impression? the fact that one of the female waiting staff took the trouble to lead a rather frail elderly lady to the toilet. Pointing out potential hazards en route (small carpeted ramp) and then opening the door of this toilet for this lady and her friend. The waitress involved was probably unaware of anything out of the ordinary in her actions, but I certainly noticed.
My wife and I are booked in for a repeat meal next Sunday - why wouldn't we??
what a lovely find I had the chicken with veg and potatoes my husband had the RAT burger both excellent. We enjoyed so much booked to go back on the Wednesday but the weather was due to change so booked inside it was a very warm night and they had the offer on from the government so very busy. Again excellent food ( sorry no pictures this time ) but a long wait for desert so we just asked to have it as take out which was not a problem . Very friendly and excellent following covid we felt very safe and dog friendly
