Visited The Royal Oak on Mother's Day and was informed that it didn't take bookings. When we arrived around 13.45 we noticed the carpark was rammed and wondered if we could get a table for 6 and a high chair.Well could not have been more wrong. Landlord informed us that they had plenty of room at the back and we got a table easily enough. The Carvery was superb for the money and fantastic quality.I had the beef and it was gorgeous. All I can say is,Great pub,Great food and the queue for the Carvery seems to be well managed and fresh Meat and vegetables coming out when needed. Will definitely return.

Just stayed 2 nights in motorhome. Large car park with 5 other vans parked. Excellent food, especially the Sunday carvery. Staff and owner could not have been more helpful and very friendly. Well worth a visit.

Had a lovely meal here dog friendly too, which makes a difference as most of Fileys pubs won't allow dogs. Staff friendly. Stop taking food orders about 8.15pm.

Kacey behind the bar was an absolute darling and so helpful. Family run pub that made us feel at home instantly. Food amazing and best pub we've visited this year. Definitely recommend

TL;DR - The Royal Oak serves great food, which is amazing value, with lovely staff, and a nice environment. We were staying at The Bay (and despite the poor reviews) 7 of us tried to go to the John Paul Jones pub on site for a Tuesday night tea. Unfortunately, (or fortunately depending how you look at it), we were turned away as the manager informed us they could not serve us food because they were understaffed. They stated that although the kitchen could serve us takeaway, we could not dine in because they didn't have enough staff to clear the table afterwards, utterly bizarre! Bemused and befuddled, we searched for an alternative. Luckily, 3 minutes drive around the corner is the Royal Oak. I called ahead to check we would be able to get in, in contrast to the John Paul, the response was friendly and helpful so we headed over. We easily found a large table in the extension and got settled in. The drinks were reasonably priced and the food selection on offer was varied. We ordered at the bar and shortly after we were served a delicious array of dishes. The highlights were the homemade chilli con carne and the vegetarian mixed grill. The kids loved their food too. All was hot and tasty. We ordered desserts too and the portions were massive and flavoursome. The venue has Sky Sports and some TVs in the main pub were showing the game. Sadly it wasn't on the huge TV where we were sat, so we asked the staff if we could have it on in, and the landlord happily obliged. Amazing service. All in all, a great experience. I think we dodged a bullet by avoiding the onsite pub at The Bay, if you're staying there, make the right call, and avoid the John Paul like the Plague. The Royal Oak is the place to go!

Family friendly and welcoming pub with a large car park at the back and safe childrens play area. Service is quick and food fantastic and freshly prepared with plenty of choices. Good value meals. Kitchen open all day. Clean and tidy place which was comfortable, warm and cozy. In the bar the log burner was lit. Dog friendly area but also there's an area to sit and eat in without dogs if you prefer. Was the best eating place we found in Filey during our weeks stay in the area.

Lovely food and drink at affordable prices. Great atmosphere and dog friendly. I just wish there was a soft-closure on the door. With the kids using the door several times a minute to access the outside play area, the door slamming shut several times an hour was a distraction to the enjoyment of the meal, and it was enough to set the dog yapping every time the door was used. Other than that, the place was faultless. Thank you for a lovely meal. We'll be back!
