Absolutely love this place and have visited many times. We made a weekend of it this time around and stayed in one of the new rooms at the pub.They have been beautifully decorated with lots of touches making the rooms feel luxurious. Would definitely stay again!
We tried the new menu during our stay and thoroughly recommend it as well - the food tasted amazing (especially the prawns) and such good value for money!
The staff are so welcoming and service was great. We asked for wine recommendations to go with the new menu, and these went really well with the food.
This place is an absolute gem and just wish we lived closer so we could visit more often!
Best dining out experience I’ve had in a very long time. Staff were very welcoming and friendly. Food is locally produced and executed perfectly by a chef who clearly knows what he’s doing. Only wish I lived a little closer and could frequent more often. Pub dining experiences like this are becoming harder and harder to find. Will definitely return and stay in the rooms upstairs.
Enjoyed an absolutely knock out meal for one on Thursday night. Delicious octopus starter - and the rotisserie chicken for main - life affirming food!!! I absolutely had no room for dessert but scoffed the lot. Cannot wait to return. X
Delicious food! Generous portions at a good price. Staff were all lovely and welcoming. We aren't from the area but if nearby we would definitely pop in again.
If you’re looking for great food, great service and brilliant; friendly staff. This is the place for you. Locally sourced ingredients across the whole menu and this really shows. The sun is definitely one of if not the most reasonably priced restaurant/ pub around for both food and drinks. Great selection of drinks with many different specials changing regularly shows how popular this pub is and rightly so.
Great place to go for a well cooked meal and a drink. Went to the pub after a long canoe trip and the food tasted great, would definitely recommend!!
This was our first return visit since the recent renovation work and what a beautiful job they’ve done! All of the historic detail remains but subtle improvements have made the pub more accessible and better laid out. We ate in the bar and the atmosphere was wonderfully warm and friendly. The landlord seems to care deeply that his guests feel welcome. Our meal was delicious!! We had the special, Skate and it was cooked to perfection. Prices are very fair too. I can’t wait to go back!

We had a Wednesday night dinner here & thoroughly enjoyed it. The staff were so lovely, answering any questions we had, being attentive, friendly & never pushy. Portions were generous, especially considering the absolute quality of the ingredients and flavourful dish produced! Really Devine flavours. We had the fish special & their classic rotisserie chicken (partner obsessed with the gravy!) + garlic bread, finished with the fig dessert to share. They catered well to my Coeliac disease, aware of cross contamination in fryers etc, the chef had anotated the menu which options were completely Gluten free (Coeliac safe) & separately which were 'gluten free' but shared fryers with gluten containing foods (not Coeliac safe). There were plenty of Coeliac safe options for me to choose from on main menu & specias menu. All was well. The menu is small but has a few classic staples like burger & their chicken, plus a few more adventurous dishes (rabbit, goat & octopus were on ours I believe). Menu seems quite seasonal.
We sat in the restaurant which was beautifully decorated. The garden looked far more extensive than we thought having walked past, with a covered & uncovered area. Super popular pub restaurant, & rightly so. Highly recommend pre-booking a table. Have recommended to family and friends. Thanks so much to the staff
Booked a table for a large group 12+ the food was absolutely fantastic! Very good price and perfectly cooked meat. We had Pork, Beef and Goat with roasties and fresh greens. The staff were kind, polite and indulged our interesting questions about the glug jugs. Will definitely be back again. Thank you very much!
We visited the area for a wedding and were welcomed at the pub with exceptional hospitality and the friendliest of welcomes. The food was gorgeous, delighted they were catering for the wedding too! What a fantastic team, so friendly and hard working! Highly recommended!!
