Went here for an evening meal with my girlfriend, Greeted by a very lovely, Bubbly American woman who gave us ample options for where to sit (which is always nice) Ordered food around 7pm and within half hour we had it, It was absolutely stunning food! Cooked to perfection and I have no complaints at all! We then decided to stay for cocktails after food and again the service at the table, Young American lady was very attentive, Very helpful. I would highly recommend dining here or drinking here.
This is a great location, bang centre of town and subterranean. It was the first time we'd been in since it changed from Chaucer's, and were pleasantly surprised. So pleased they still have the booth seating, and the cosy area by the fire.
Initially a bit quiet for a Friday night, but the staff were friendly and welcoming. Unfortunately they had been let down by their delivery company, so the menu was very restricted - no fish or batter, which impacted a few of our choices. Staff were brilliant with apologies for this, and discounted our bill, which I thought was excellent service.
Ending up with the soya burger, which was very tasty and one of the better veggie options I have had recently. Chips were nice and hot too.
Being a Marsden's you know what you're gonna get, basically higher end chain pub grub. Don't forget to sign up to their newsletter and you get a free drink on the house!
There was a lovely atmosphere when we walked into the restaurant, even though it wasn't very busy. When we sat down we saw there was plenty of choices 4 even the most fuzzy of eaters . We all had different types of burgers and each 1 was really good, felt and tasted freshly cooked and came with plenty of extras, such as the onion rings on top of them.
The young man that served us was faultless , he was friendly, professional and nothing seemed like to much trouble 4 him. A credit 2 them. As I have found that in many places you go these days the younger the staff the less customer service they seem to have, so it was lovely 2 have a guy that knew how 2 treat a customer.
Would definitely go back there again. The only down side is the price of the drinks, but the price of the food out weighs them so all in all a real value 4 money .
Great food, cooked to perfection and served nice and hot. Great little steak and grill house type menu with a lot to pick from. Good quality of food at a sensible price and do great lunchtime deals to mains for £8 quiet and very tidy restaurant and a nice volume of background music
Welcoming friendly staff.
Where to start with this fantastic underground pub...
It offers fairly pricey food, but it is excellent food and the deserts are also delightful. Set in a medieval tavern setting, dark, but in places bright, a lovely place for a romantic meal for two or for a group about to hit the town.
I would highly recommend this place.
When this place was called Chaucers it used to be a lovely place years ago, but it went slowly downhill food and atmosphere wise. I went in to check the place out under the new management and name of Riddle & Rye, and had a meal. I miss the old wood panelling decor, and think that trying to brighten up an underground restaurant bar is missing the point, but oh well, guess I'm in the minority there. The food was fantastic and the service was excellent too, so that's the main thing! They have an ok selection of ales and bottled beers. Happy to give full marks for the central location, interesting premises, good service and the food is back on great form, will definitely be back.
Great food, nice decor and quick service l
Myself and partner enjoyed a meal and a few drinks in here on Saturday before going to the cinema, the food was lovely, nice atmosphere and the young lady serving us was a delight. I would thoroughly recommend a visit.
Took my Dad in to celebrate his Birthday, could not fault the food or the Service! The Staff even took the time to wish my Dad 'Happy Birthday ' when they realisedvwhat our celebration was! Definitely deserved the 5stars! and will go there again ,very soon!😀
Dont understand why its not busier.
Today was our second visit and both times it has been empty.
You get plenty of very tasty food at a reasonable price. The place itself is very chilled and service cant be faulted. My first choice for food in Exeter :)
I visited when it first opened and i thought it was awful, however i gave them a second chance now they have been open a while and i have to say it was fab!! Food was lovely and full of flavour, service was quick and the staff were really friendly. Will be a regular visitor now.
Been here twice now. Fantastic value for money with the food. Had good service (6pm-7:45pm on a friday), with a very attentive member of staff. Will be going back again.
