What a hidden gem! Gorgeous setting, friendly space and genuinely delicious bakes and coffee… what more could you ask for? I’m so excited for future coffee dates at the cafe!

That the pastries were in limited supply at 9.30am on a Tuesday tells you everything. Clearly very popular and with very good reason. I had an excellent pain au chocolat and a good latte with Exeter roasted beans. Bread looked amazing. Pretty spot by the water. Highly recommend. More of a takeaway place with not much seating. Decent but not knock-your-socks-off coffee so 4/5 is about right.

Definitely worth heading here early to buy some of Emma’s Incredible bread!! They also do great coffee and they’ve got lovely views whole you sit and enjoy it!

This is a destination treat for our family. We love their coffee (locally ground Exe Coffee Roasters I believe), and this past year with lock-down, it's a manageable distance by foot to incorporate a halfway stop at Boatyard for some snacks (whatever they've got left normally by the time we get there). They've got a good space inside to socially distance, clear floor markings for 2m, pay contactless with staff the other side of a screen and a collection point on your way out. We've had pasties, pain au choc, brownies, flapjack and more. All lush. You get what you pay for, eating out is not cheap, hence the treat feeling of supporting this business on our beautiful Exeter Quay.

Bakery and cafe all rolled into one. Different. Slightly off the beaten track of the Quay, in the Canal Basin area. The decor is a bit 'industrial', open plan and rough round the edges, so to speak. Not a great range to eat on offer but all presumably baked on the premises. I had a coffee, sourdough toast and marmalade. Very nice especially the marmalade which had lovely large pieces of peel in it, yum! Oh, and be aware it closes at 2pm.

One of my favourite spots to grab coffee and a bite to eat on the Quay. Delicious pastries, especially the cinnamon buns - 10/10. Very kind staff too.

First up - the sourdough bread is amazing. Great crust, lovely flavour. Definitely recommend. Pastry is also very good. Food gets top marks. *Original drink review amended in line with owner's comment below. I can forgive and forget when people are in training!

This bakery is so wonderful. What a lovely discovery. Loved the Pain Au Chocolate combined with the gorgeous local pottery and boatyard view! Will definitely return on my next visit to Exeter.

Tried their multiseed sourdough, and it’s the best sourdough I’ve had! Really good bread

What a delightful little cafe! We stopped for coffee and a pastry. The coffee was probably the best coffee I've ever had. Flat white.... So nothing special really but remarkable in flavour. Same with the pastry. We had to buy some bread to take away... So good! Relaxing location to enjoy coffee next to the water watching the boats. Loved it!

Boatyard cafe/ Emma's bread has catered a couple of our breakfast events. The Pan au Chocolat and croissants were flying off the plates! All of our guests commented on how delicious the pastries were!!

I don't really want to leave a positive review as it risks the pastries selling out faster than they already do! I absolutely love the Boatyard Cafe and Bakery: they have, without a doubt (and after extensive research) the best pain au chocolat in Exeter... Maybe the south west.

We love Boatyard so much we got them to cater the breakfasts at our wedding! We wanted something special for our festival wedding at Huntsham Court near Tiverton, so we ordered all manner of pastries, breads and sausage rolls from Boatyard that we collected over two days to give our guests delicious fresh options. The cinnamon buns were a particular hit! Thank you so much to the team at Boatyard for going out of their way to make it happen - can't recommend them highly enough.

Great coffee, bread, cakes. Little bench outside right by the quayside and very close to the larger outside seating area. Great location.
