I visited Samuel Jones last Sunday with a friend, we had travelled down to Exeter to enjoy the surprisingly warm weather
The booking reservation form was easy to complete and we were even able to request a seat with a view of the river Exe.
Just as we were setting off we received a call from Samuel Jones advising us that due to a supply issue there would be no roast dinners available, we thought this was a really nice touch that someone had taken the effort to let us know in case we had been planning on having a roast dinner – as it was because it was such a warm day it didn’t matter to us.
We arrived at the restaurant to receive a really friendly welcome before being shown to our table – as requested at a window with a lovely view of the river, as the waiter was explaining the menu to us we asked if it was possible to sit on one of the available tables outside as it was so warm and sunny.
This was no problem and we were kindly moved to an outside table – the only difference was we now had to place our order at the bar, which is nothing unusual anyway.
We decided to have two small starters to share, we had a bowl of mixed olives and duck gyoza. They were both really nice tasting and decent portions for “nibbles”, even though the waiter had advised that there could be a small delay in our order the food was delivered very promptly
We both then had a main course of West Country Mussels which were in a really nice cider, leek and cream sauce, the portion sizes again were spot on and we both really enjoyed the main dish. There was an accompanying side of fries and a small baguette which was the icing on the cake
Even though the restaurant was really busy due to having sport on TV inside and the influx of walk up customers because of the nice weather we hardly had to wait and to the credit of the staff we saw they kept communicating with their customers advising them of any delays etc
Washed down with a lovely cool bottle of rose wine all in all we have a lovely couple of hours in a very peaceful but picturesque location
We took our daughter for supper while visiting her. We had not been before but she reassured us we would like it and she was right! The food was superb, from steak, to chicken and a veggie ravioli, we're all superb. We finished with the cheeseboard which fed two adults perfectly and a sorbet, all delicious! Our server, Louis (or thst might be Lewis) was great, friendly, chatty and attentive. All in all, a fabulous meal in a glorious setting. Will definitely be back!!
My family recently celebrated a 30th birthday at Samuel Jones. The service was amazing. They let some of our party arrive early so they could decorated our table. They even let us use one of there cake stands. They really went above and beyond to make the birthday party special. Thanks S J staff
Beautiful food, lovely waiting staff with great service.
We called in without a booking and they were able to fit all 6 of our party in.
The food isn't cheap but that's because the quality is far better than most places. Hat's off to he chef, there was silence around the table once the food had arrived, a definite sign of an excellent meal.
There was a very good selection of alcoholic and non alcoholic drinks to choose from and the menu was very large. I definite recommend a visit and with their out door balcony to stand out and look at the view, it is a little beauty of a place.
Pizza was excellent! Sat by the window watching the world go by...great drinks choice and team looked happy.
Here for Sunday lunch with my daughter. Love the variety on the menu. The prawn salad with Bloody Mary sauce was a wow. The rest just perfection had roast pork and fish n chips.
I have lost several stones in weight, successfully following the slimming world plan. We had a staff meal at Samuel Jones in Exeter, and the restaurant was extremely helpful and accommodating to make some changes to the menu for me, so I could continue to follow my eating regime. I was super grateful and the staff were all amazing, and interested in my story.
very nice ambiance, specially outside at the waterfront. tasty beers&ales. good for watching sport events on tv.
Amazing food, with lovely attentive staff. We ordered the flat iron steaks which came perfectly cooked, and everything was a reasonable price for quality. Will definitely eat here again, recommend it highly.
Fantastic place to come for Fish n Chips and a nice cold cider; even when the weather isn’t the best. Reasonable price for the view and setup. Lovely polite helpful staff. Highly recommend!
